Shurpanakha's marriageAfter Sita interrogated Rama about the beauty of the woman he rescued, she decided to see for herself. So she decided to go to the lake, and took Lakshman w/ her. There, she meet's Shurpanakha. I'll use V (Vaidehi) for Sita, and leave Shurpanakha in possession of the S.
V: I hear that you were drowning?
S: Yeah, that great hot prince of Ayodhya saved me
V: That great hot prince was my husband
S: That's fine. He can have me as well. Have you not heard of kings having multiple wives? You should know, having worshipped Kaushalya, Kaikeyi & Sumitra all as your mothers.
V: Yeah, but my husband is not like any other king. He gave me a vow that he'll be monogynous
S: Maybe, but he's out to challenge Lankesh Ravan, who has 7 queens and endless concubines. How does he do that when the only woman he has is you?
V: One does not need to exercise power over women to show his strength. My husband has laid down thousands of Rakshashas, and widowed thousands of Rakshashis. In fact, so many that I had to give him a pravachan to stop
S: You have no sense of adventure. I watched him kill hundreds of Rakshashas while I was admiring him. It's that which turned me on
V: This is not a game. Do you know how unwanted all this is? Think of all the new Rakshashi widows & orphans that have been created by this process
S: Your husband can marry all of them, and...
At this point, Rama too joins them
R: Sitae, why are you here? I got you the flowers
V: Arya, there were 7 flowers in that basket, but I needed 11. You were meditating, so I didn't want to disturb you. But since you were concerned about my safety, I brought Lakshman here w/ me
S: Sire, you are a very handsome & powerful warrior. What's your name?
R: Rama
S: I am Shurpanakha, the sister of the mighty Ravan. I have been in admiration of you since the time you killed those Rakshashas, and I'm here to surrender myself to you
R: I'm already married. But here's my brother Lakshman here, who might be interested
S: Lakshman, how about it?
L: I too am married. Besides, I'm his slave, so why would you want me?
S: Okay, Rama, looks like he's not interested, so I'm back to surrendering myself to you.
V: Wait a minute, let me resolve this. You are Shurpanakha, right?
S: Right
V: The one whose husband was killed by her brother, right?
S: (annoyed) Right
V: And you've just surrendered to us, right?
S: Not you, just him
V: Nonetheless, your fate is now in his hands, right?
S: Right
V: And you are unhappy that everyone who was interested in you either was afraid of your brother, or wanted to be associated w/ him and have access to his wealth & power?
S: Right. How do you know all that about me?
V: B'cos I'm the daughter of this earth, and understand all nature. Including human nature, rakshashi nature, and so on. So I have someone who would be interested in you
Sita then stopped and thought of Jayant, & summoned him. A crow flew to the scene, and Jayant appeared.
V: Jayant, here is someone I want you to meet. You were longing for a beautiful woman, here is one who matches me, and who wants somebody who loves her for her, and not her brother
J: Why should I?
L: It's a part of your prayashchit. Or else, we can re-invoke that Brahmastra
J: Okay, I'm game
S: But he has lost an eye. What sort of a husband are you giving me?
Sita then gave Shurpanakha a big pravachan on pativrata, and how one should not be superficial, and how a woman should accept a husband irrespective of his shortcomings. Shurpanakha was unconvinced
S: I am a great beauty, while this is a deformed deva. How is it a fair match?
At this defiance, Lakshman became angry, and cut off Shurpanakha's nose
L: There, now you are equal. Are you happy
S: Waaah... my nose (bleeding)
L: We'll fix it for you, but you must marry Jayant, or else (points an arrow at her)
S: Okay, okay, I'll do it
So Rama, Lakshman, Sita & Jatayu all sat down and prepared for the marriage of Shurpanakha to Jayant. Jayant was married to Shurpanakha, filled her maang, and led her away to Devalok
