Chapter 16

Reunion and New Friends

Warning: Not too Much of RagNa! 😆 As the Part Focuses on Just Getting Over and Settling the Past Accounts!

"Yes, Mr. Sahil Kapoor, my would be rented father-in-law, should we proceed to sign the contract?" Kalpana asked confidently looking at him, while rest of the people who had just entered the area where Kalpana questioned Sahil were stunned at the scene. Kalpana didn't realize all the people who were looking at them also included her loved ones.

"You do not even need to rent him!" came the female voice from right side of Kalpana making Sahil and Kalpana turn their neck in the direction to look at confidently standing Sapna, her bhabhi. Kalpana was indeed presently surprised to see everyone there as she looked on to see people behind Sapna, Pakya, Raghav, Sammy and her eyes hardened at sight of Prem. Prem gulped, feeling guilty for something her father had done.

Sapna stepped forward and went to Kalpana. Kalpana smiled at her as her happiness glowed on her face in form of tears, as she went and hugged Sapna tightly. This sight shocked Raghav and Sammy who stood there dumbfound trying to connect the relationship between Sapna and Kalpana. As Sapna broke the hug and touched the cupped her cheeks as she spoke, "Sorry Kalpi for sounding selfish, but I was somewhere stuck with commitment towards work, as I felt my company needed my contribution and it was my duty to serve them, but I didn't look at the other side, where my family too needed me and I too had some responsibilities towards them!" she paused as tears rolled down her eyes, "Please forgive me Kalpi". Kalpana looked at her and hugged her. Once again when they broke hug, "And Don't worry about anything," she looked at Sahil as she stepped towards him, and continued talking to Kalpana, "We aren't so weak financially that you need to rent or buy anyone," she turned to Kalpana as she passed her and went towards Raghav as Kalpana looked on, "Kalpana, he is Raghav Singhaniya, my boss," she said with smile as Kalpana, Prem and Sahil stood there stunned by her words, "Raghav sir has already provided us with financial aid for our family!" she completed as Kalpana looked on to Raghav with tears in her eyes, while Raghav was equally shocked by the fact that ... Sapna continued, "Sir, this is Kalpana, my sister-in-law!" Raghav and Kalpana stared at each other, both were indeed pleasantly surprised, no matter how strong Kalpana portrayed herself, she herself knew the only weakness that can make her fall on anyone's feet would be for her family, and Raghav had known, only saying sorry wouldn't be enough for mistakes he had been committing since past one week, but he had somehow indirectly come to help of Kalpana exactly when she needed him the most, somewhere thanks to his own realization of relations which has been created,

Flashback: [Chapter 12]

After completing the call from his dadaji, Raghav had come to realize on certain points, no matter the kind of relation his parents shared, somewhere they were indeed connected. He always had expected his mother to look after his dadaji as his daughter-in-law, though she was mostly busy in her kitty parties and other show off functions, she did complete her part of responsibility, "Would it be too much to think of same from Mrs. Jadhav's perspective? She said her father-in-law is in hospital?" he thought.

Without wasting a second, he called up his new York office and informed them to sanction financial aid for Mrs. Jadhav as she has been with organization for past several years and deserved this aid for her family, and also grant her official leave for 2 months, if she requires transfer her and place her in Andheri office at branch manager, and we can call try to settle things later. Same was informed to Mrs. Jadhav via phone call while she was on airport.
Flashback Ends

Kamla enters the hospital wondering why there was crowd and chaos, but this question was ignored moment she saw her daughter in law and son along with their grandson, she smiled and hugged both of them as they bend down to touch her feet. "How is baba aai?" Pakya asked with teary eyes, and Kamla assured that now since all are here all will be well, and all of them headed towards the room where Vitthal laid unconscious, Pakya cried seeing his baba in the condition, while Sapna consoled him. Sapna and Pakya paid the required amount, while nurse asked for another set of injection. Raghav stood there too confused to react any in the situation which was completely new to him. While Sammy had left for booking some good place for their extended stay.

Raghav sat near Kamla who was not in her state, as he tried starting some conversation, but unable to speak much all that left him was, "He will be alright." Kamla looked at face of stranger who didn't seem stranger for he was all along with them since they have been here. "I am sorry beta, but I couldn't recognize you?" she asked curiously.

"Mr. Singhaniya?" came another voice from their side, as Raghav looked up at stranger's face trying to remember the person, but failed. Man walked to him, "Aap yahan?" (What are you doing here😲😲?)

Raghav looked around, "Well yeah, umm.. actually..." he paused while man looked at him curiously, "May I know you good name?" he changed course of topic making man realize, Raghav do not know him, "Ohh, I am sorry, I am Abhay, Abhay Desai!" he emphasized on his name. It dawned to Raghav that he is the same person with whom they were to meet on very first day they had landed in India, "thing is that Mr. Desai's wife has been admitted in hospital" Sammy had told him, and he was the one, who had personally called him once again to tell him, "So Mr. Desai, finally you chose your path after begging to us for about 4 years about the project. Finally when you had the opportunity you chose to turn away," Raghav looked at him, unable to answer him this time, he was equally sorry for his harsh words back then, Mr. Desai smiled, "Are you here for someone?" he asked, yet again conversation was interrupted by arrival of Pakya and Sapna on the place, as Sapna said, "Thank You ... Thank You so much sir, Umm... I am sure you too have come here to meet someone, sir, will manage now, you need not worry," she said. Raghav had gather all the courage and speak up what his heart felt this time, without bothering about eyes that looked at him and ears that heard him, "I was here for Kalpana, as I knew about her baba, and she seemed to have not known about your arrival either, I ..." He paused... "I didn't want to leave her alone," he completed. His words obviously lead to blank faces, "Sir, how do you know Kalpana?" she asked, "Well, Sapna, Kalpana has been driving around the city for us during our week's stay, and ..." ... "and she has done allot for us, I don't know... I guess this is one of the reason why I felt, that I should just visit her and not leave her, and to cancel everything even after reaching airport..." ... "You all are very lucky to have her, she is indeed very talented," he said. All of them smiled hearing him and all were indeed happy to hear something so sweet about one of their kindest family member. Mr. Desai too smiled. Raghav excused himself, wishing to be alone trying to sort out his mental state for now...

While Kalpana was returning taking all the injections, she could see Prem and Sahil involved in some argument, while Sahil was the one who seemed to be asking for forgiveness from Prem as he cried trying to hold Prem while he tried walking away. Kalpana had guessed the situation. She did feel bad, but she wouldn't have anyhow supported action of Sahil. Prem finally managed to leave the grip as he headed towards door only to be meet eyes of Kalpana. He immediately looked down feeling ashamed. Kalpana went to him, "Prem.." she said, "Prem for me you have always been amazing and sweetest of friend, who has been by my side always and you will always be one of them, but I honestly never had any other feelings for you, I am really sorry Prem..." she waited, "and had never thought of marrying..." Her words were cut by Prem, "Kalpana, I am the one who is suppose to be sorry not you!" he said, "If possible please forgive me, for what my dad had said... After that if you might ever even think of doing the favour of marrying me, I don't think I will ever find myself worth you...!!" he completed as tears rolled down his eyes, making Kalpana feel bad for him, as she took step towards him and hugged him, "Please don't say anything," Raghav entered the hall, near main entrance only to see Kalpana hugging Prem, as she muttered, "It wasn't your fault on anything, developing attraction or crush, is never a mistake," she broke the hug and wiped her tears, "Prem, you are really nice guy, and I am sure you too will have someone who will Love you with all her heart!" she said, "But I won't ever be that one person, ... Prem ... Marriage and love is something not on my mind for now, I need to make my way through all hurdles and prove myself, I have long way to go Prem!" she said. Raghav looked on feeling bad for always misinterpreting everything, Kalpana had always been clear about her relation and thoughts on these terms of love and marriage, but one-sided attraction of Prem had always bothered him. He had to apologize to Kalpana as soon as he can, but right now he was short of words. Prem left and she walked in direction towards corridor, and Raghav turned around to avoid meeting her gaze.

Raghav sat on the bench outside the hospital, still lost and wondering how would he apologize to her, that's when he felt hand on his shoulder making him look up to meet the same man he had met inside few minutes back, Mr. Desai smiled while Raghav could just look anywhere not able to look at him directly for time being, as he once again recalled his words to him, "Wife? C'mon don't tell me there was no one else to take her to hospital and be by her side. I hate such crappy answers mind it! If this meeting was at all important to you could have just bothered to inform us, but you didn't. First this strange country, so called my mother land, and, weirdest of people, emotional fools, and relatives oriented. I bet, even if you had some far away relative, you would have ran away under excuse, right?" but as he saw Mr. Desai, still smiling, as if remembering the same words, when he said, "I am glad to see you here and you are still in India Mr. Singhaniya, that too in hospital caring for someone who isn't even termed as relative!" he said. Raghav looked at him, as he asked, "How is your wife Mr. Desai?" Mr. Desai politely replied, "She is well and getting discharged tomorrow." Raghav just nodded with understanding smile. "So, have I completely lost the opportunity, I had been waiting for since for years? Or should I thank god for having his blessings?" he asked with grin on his face, Raghav chuckled slightly as he replied, "Tomorrow morning I guess, at sharp 9.00 AM in same place as decided on day 1." Mr. Desai smiled hearing as Raghav extended his hands for handshake. Soon enough things were indeed cleared him too. Raghav had landed two days earlier in India for this meeting, and with a lesson learned, he would delay his going for couple of more days and complete the meeting. Most of his work was done. Raghav felt more confident with reaction and attitude of Mr. Desai, and that now wished, speaking to Kalpana wouldn't be more difficult.

It was almost evening, till doctor came out from operation theatre and announced that Vitthal was out of danger and operation was success. All of them smiled and hugged each other with joy. Doctor continued saying, "He is not conscious due to medication, but he will soon wake up from it's effect," saying so he moved ahead. All of them sighed heave of relief. Finally things were fine. Only one of the family member was to stay in hospital. Kamla agreed upon it, however Pakya requested her to go home and rest, and he will be here with his father, and he deserves this time with him. Kamla looked at him with pride and agreed. Kalpana asked Kamla and Sapna to move home, and she will get something to eat from hotel and join them at home, though she will be little late as she had something else to do as well. Kamla and Sapna left the place and Kalpana too made her way in other direction, i.e. towards temple.

Kalpana slowly climbed the steps of temple and stood in front of idol of Ganesha, and she presented basket of flower to panditji to offer at lord's feet. She joined her hands and closed her eyes bowing it, mentally thanking god for setting things right, and praying for happiness and good health for her family. She recalled her state on Sahil's condition and how Sapna said Raghav was her boss and he has already provided required assistance. She smiled, "You always send angels on correct time to help out the ones who prays for it truly," she thought, looking at idol. She completed praying and panditji returned plate with some fruits. Kalpana turned back to leave, only to be surprised yet again to find Raghav standing there as wind blew around. Both of them slowly took step towards each other and stood face to face. Raghav joined his hands and bowed for couple of seconds in direction of god's idol as Kalpi too turned back for seconds to glance in that direction, before both looked at each other, rather looked lost into each other, when Kalpana broke the eye lock as she asked, "Sir, aap ya..." before she completes her question, Raghav speaks up, "I am here to say Sorry for..." and once again Kalpana nodded her head and she started, "No sir, there is no nee..." But Raghav places his index of his right hand on her lips quieting her, "Not today Kalpana, I want to be the one speaking this time!" he said, as Kalpana looked up in his eyes gulping slightly, and then looking down, as Raghav continued, trying to explain to her, "I am not here as your sir today, or the person to whom you were driver, I am here as just some man, or say some common person around, called Raghav!" he stated. His words had effortlessly now silenced Kalpana as she looked on at him and Raghav continued speaking, "Kalpana, though India is my birthplace, and to say "Motherland" I was never fond of the country, for I have grown up in western culture, with my parents completely independent. I mean, they were never dependent on each other and always credited this factor to be reason of their successful life, and it is possible only in..." he paused to realize maybe he was speaking way too much, much more than it's necessary, so changing leaving the statement he continued... "Kalpana, all I know is that I have learned a lot in this whole week, and it's only because of you, and best thing I have learned is to appreciate and accept the essence of relationships," he said, "and in all I have realized, I have done soo much wrong to you," he continued with eyes filled with tears on the edge mixed with guilt, "Without realizing, and blaming the rituals, I made you stay without food, in spite of that you continued helping me, but I ... I never appreciated help and considered it as source of revenge, by making us travel in local train and all ... All other sort of transports. It was my fault to take route of roads which I was unsure of and blamed you or car for exhaustion of diesel," he said bitterly remembering the past, and tears rolled down Kalpana's eyes, as she listened to him, "and yet you had somehow, managed to make ME reach my destination of time and I left without even worrying about car and it's condition, assuming you would manage, not even for once realizing how difficult would it be?" ... he said as he remembered how difficult it must have been, he closed his eyes now, letting that water on edge roll down, "All I did was be rude to you, and how ??" ... "How could you manage all this without even complaining once? Kalpana how did you?" he asked, as he turned to her, "How did you tolerate my nonsense Kalpana? All I have done is be rude to you, tried my best to just irritate you but always ended up putting you in some mess! Yet you didn't complain... How Kalpana?" he asked as he went towards her and once again faced, "But last two days, ever since you have just ignored me, which I absolutely deserved, I have realized the effect you have on me and your importance, your words and your company, your talks, everything is just too special Kalpana..." Tears continued rolling down her eyes, as her voice was stuck in her throat, as Raghav continued, "I thought or imagined being friends with you before I leave ever since we have come back from Palghar, but now...," Raghav joined his hands in front of her, as Kalpana looked at his joined hands and then into his teary eyes, which showed sincere sorrow, which matched his words, but Please forgive me Kalpana, though I know I do not really deserve it..." he said, and Kalpana held his hand, nodding in no as both had tears rolling down their cheeks... Kalpana hugged near his chest and Raghav squeezed her back, completely washed off guilt, while Kalpana spoke still hugging him, "It's best to forget the past, and I don't know had you not been here to help us, I might have married..." her words are left off as she felt Raghav tightening his grip and discard the thought of having married Prem for sake of money!

They remained in the position, till they were completely over their inner and emotional turmoil and it was moment that had changed everything. Kalpana and Raghav looked at each other with smile, as they held their hands together in handshake. Both of them, still holding their hands together, and enjoying the bliss of new found friendship, duo started going down the stairs and walked along.

Though they headed in different directions soon, where Kalpana had reached her house and Raghav is hotel room, they were still in thoughts of each other as night approached to be darker, and reliving their beautiful journey of 7 days, both of them drifted off to sleep.

Two People completely different from each other had started the journey of one week at one of the worse note ever. While he was all set to live in world of assumptions about India and Indians, she was no less determined to prove herself and present her city in best possible way. When this journey had begun no one could have ever imagined that these two people would ever be in good terms to even speak about each other or speak with each other at the end of this journey. However, series of events, build by actions both had taken, while Kalpana proved herself to be strong benevolent personality as woman who was gregarious as well attracted Raghav, his changing perspective which he seemed to have gladly accepted was appreciated by Kalpana. Hence the journey marked it's end with their friendship, which would sure be proved to be ever green.
