So I was curious and Googled which country has produced more serial killers. And BAM, US topped this one as well. Not surprised given its best at everything...😆

And in general, there seems to be more serial killers in the western counterpart of the world or we can call it the first world problem ? So why inflation of such violent criminals ? Is it the society ? Is there a relation to it's sexual freedom ? Or over emphasis on sex ? Or the social/family dynamics ? Or may be something to do with lack of religious emphasis ? So what is it that makes US a place of such gruesome serial killers ? Discuss...

If you look at the serial killer lists, most of them come from places like bumblef**k, hicksvillle, middleofnowhereton. A lot of these places are in the Bible belt, the most religious and conservative part of USA. While I'm no psychiatrist, I would hazard a guess that it is socialization and social structure that is the problem. The middle plains are sparsely populated. People live relatively isolated lives. Boredom, isolation and lack of proper socialization with diverse groups is probably what makes people to be off the rockers. Occasionally, you get the more Urban Son of Sam. However, I just think cornfields to the left, corn fields to the right, cornfields to the North, cornfields to the South but not a human in sight just messes with people.

A guess.

I think western culture gives much emphasis to individual independence that it weakens family ties overtime.Most people adapt well and get integrated to social circles once they are of age and start living on their own but to certain some,it results in social isolation.With neither family's nor friends shoulder to cry on,I bet that would mess up their minds.That, with a comparatively easy access to guns becomes a deadly combination.

I think a similar explanation has been put forth by psychologists in relation to school shootouts.

Western culture externalizes. Eastern culture internalizes.

Western culture is about individuals. Eastern culture is about collectives.

In the west, the community owes the individual. In the east, the individual owes the community.

As a result when things go wrong western kids are more likely to resort to gun violence - their problems are externalized on the community failure. On the other hand eastern kids are more likely to resort to suicide - their problems are internalized to individual failure.

But I think the explanation was towards mass shootings by youth rather than serial killing.

Just wanna ask , There is any option in US to Text 911, you know, just in case you're hiding from a serial killer and can't talk...situations.😕

Did anyone noticed: Kameene log hey ye...they rarely answer questions like, "Who's There?"..& Almost all serial killers are men. ...others like slow killingzz 😛

Yes,that explanation is more relevant in the case of mass killings.But then,there could be some similarities between the two.Both cases should necessarily have some underlying psychological problems.Since psychology always have something to do with nurture,society and culture should have played their parts as well.

I think most mass shooters act on the spur of the moment-the action is not very well thought of or pre-planned and may be without any specific intention at all,in the case of truly psychotic ones.But serial killers can't be completely off the rockers like that .They should be sensible enough not just to plan it well beforehand and get away with the crime but to keep the cops at bay as well.Yet their ethics should be considerably messed up to be committing a murder in the first place.What sort of things would contribute to the development of such a character,is unknown to me.

May be the genetics also have something to do with it..Genes present in some populations when predisposed to certain environments could lead to a change in behaviour or develop a new trait.

Skeptical about this.

Is suicide considerably low in US?Also, I think if guns were as easily available here,many would take it out on others rather than on themselves,especially women😆

Suicide rates are highest in cold countries and surprisingly in Bhutan (also cold but I thought people rated themselves the happiest there)

@RTH I disagree with some of the causes listed. People who made the big tip to USA in the old days had to deal with a lot of isolation and were a heck of lot more conservative than this. I actually happen to live in the middle of corn fields an am quite happy with my rural life style.

I think people need something to occupy their mind. Like how to deal with their own future perhaps. IMHO, human beings need something to strive for. While there should definitely be a safety net for folks, it is not a good thing for people to be able to while time away collecting government checks. Idle mind and all that business😆.

@Druids Breakdown of family is closely related to this, I think. While unhappy unions based solely on financial need is a bad thing, it is undeniable that lack of necessity of depending on each other makes it easy to break up a family for flimsy reasons
