Sallu, Dhawan in pow-wow!

Last week, B-Town was abuzz with talk that Salman Khan and Partner director David Dhawan had a huge fight. Says a source, "It had something to do with the editing of Partner. Salman wanted some scenes edited in a particular way while David, who edits all his films, said he knew his job.

Khan also wanted some scene nixed but David refused, and this led to a heated exchange of words. However, David and Salman are very fond of each other. A few days later, David called Salman and they sorted out the issue."

'He's a great guy'

David laughs off the rumours. He says, "I'm having coffee with Salman right now at Barista. Do you think I would be sitting around with him if we had a fight? Also, would I be doing the sequel to Partner if that were true?"

The latest on Partner is that it has run into legal problems, with Sony threatening to sue the Indian producers for $30 million for rehashing Hitch. Says David, "It's rubbish. How many producers can they sue? Five hundred films are made here that are inspired by Hollywood films."

Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. In a perverse sense, this is another testament to Partner's success.

OK, guys, you might hate me for saying this, but I think this is a good development, because it will force Bollywood filmmakers to get off their lazy butts and start doing some original work, and become more professional in terms of respecting their peers' work in Hollywood. After all, they pay for remake rights when they remake films from the South, so it's not as if they're not familiar with the idea. And, some Bollywood singers and composers have also sued Hollywood films for using their songs without permission. So it has to work both ways.

The first Bollywood film to be sued was Karan Johar's K3G, for using "It's raining men" without permission. Karan ended up paying the copyright holders after the film released, but they only noticed because it was such a big hit overseas, and Karan was crowing about it being No. 10 in the U.S. on its opening day weekend, and they even complained to Variety (the Hollywood trade magazine) for not including them. If you're going to make so much noise about your box office success, you have to take the responsibility that goes along with it.

And as for the effect on Salman, this development will prove two things: (1) Partner is a monster hit; and (2) he is trendsetter once again, and because of him and his case, others will refrain from making the same mistake (just as he says about his accident or poaching cases).

Don't worry about the financial impact. People always sue for much larger amounts than they expect to actually recover. In the end, they will probably settle out of court for some revenue splitting agreement about the profits.

this is exactly what im trying to say!

Hollywood only remakes the films buy other countries

The next watch the movie keep (I am talking about hollywood)on eye on the cridits, the hollywood movies will state that the film is inspried by or that its a remake, on the other hand India doesnt do this just just copy the movie and change plot around.
