Part 2
He had no choice but nod to that also and left the clinic. As he drove back home, only one thing resonated in his mind, "ab iss baat ko Jhansi ki rani se kaise kahoom?"
*********************************
His mind wandered even as he stood ringing the door bell. Usually, he got annoyed when she bolts the door from inside, thereby not allowing him to use his key to enter but today he thought nothing about it, nor was he mad at her for the delay.
After 2 bells, she opened the door. She faintly smiled and walked back to the kitchen.
For a moment, he let the thoughts in his head to rest. He could see that she was still in the same upset mood. So he generally suggested, "Ishita agar tabiyat kharaab hai toh khaana order karthe hai...tum kyun..."
She snapped him short, "nahi Raman...maine banaa liya hai"
He shook his head in total disbelief, "tum kitna ziddhi ho yaar? Agar ek din apni idli sambar nahi banaayegi toh aasmaan toot nahi jaayega...kam se kam ek din toh chutkaara deh dho"
She pouted at that, "haaawww maine kab dinner pe aapko idli sambar khilaaya tha?"
Raman wasn't giving up so easily as his sole intention was to distract her from her pain to their silly nhok jhok, "accha idli sambar nahi toh dosa chutney hoga...kya farq padtha hai? Sabke sab ek hi taste hai...sirf shape bathalthi hai"
He had seen her rolling out the dosa batter on the tawa.
She shook her head in amusement wondering how Raavan managed to say such crazy logics, "Kuch bhi haan?"
He replied trying to continue with the fight, "ab madrasi se shadi kiya toh aisa kuch hi khaana padega..."
She showed a funny face and replied, "aap keliye alag se pulaav banaaya hai..yeh dosa mere liye hai"
He couldn't help smile to himself over that. He was amazed at his super woman who took extra care of every small thing in his life. He was indeed lucky and wanted to give her back some share of this happiness too but he was a little paranoid over sharing with her what the doctor told him. What would be her reaction? It was a huge step in their relationship and will they ever be able to move on to that level.
He, himself was oblivious to the ground reality that he was already in love with her. He was subtely hiding the love, care and concern that he had for her behind his taunts and insults. Whenever he said about her bad qualities like the non stop lectures, and then her not so beautiful appearance, his heart and mind was screaming out the opposite. He knew that marrying her was the best thing that could ever happen to him and she was the most beautiful, most awesome person at heart in the whole world. "My wife" nowadays when he said that, or introduced her, it was in pride. His wife was the best, his super woman, his Jhansi ki rani! And offlate, he was getting physically attracted to her as well. Of course she was a feisty, gorgeous and beautiful woman and was every man's dream fantasy and she was his but he could never show those emotions and feelings out in the open.
He didn't know what stopped him from acknowledging his own feelings for her and then confess it to her. He didn't know if this was the love that sprouts up between a husband and wife.
If yes, it was the last thing he ever expected in this deal like marriage to her. Ruhi was the only reason they married and even today he was forcing himself to believe that. The strong clause of their marriage, the focal point of their relationship prevented him from thinking ahead. Most of the times, he was in dilemma if it was even right to expect her to give in to him and see him as a husband rather than as Ruhi's papa.
With all these thoughts clogging him and also doctor's words echoing in his head, he walked to the room. His sudden silence and the change of his expressions didn't go unnoticed by her.
She felt something amiss all of a sudden. Else he wasn't the one to accept defeat so easily. He would have tit for tat replies and one liner taunts for every word of hers.
She quickly finished her work and walked to the room with his coffee, his special blend of less milk and less sugar. Initially, she always wondered how he drank such a coffee. She used to chide and mock him, "itni khadvi coffee peeke hi khadvi hua hai Raavan Kumar" but then slowly she started mixing her coffee too the same way and she loved it now. Her growing liking for the coffee was similar to her feelings for him as well. Slowly, her fondness for Raavan Kumar was growing. She started enjoing even his taunts and insults. He and his oneliners were an interesting part of her life. Without all of it, her life would have been boring and dormant. She never realized when her almost machine like life sprang into life. She came alive in his company. Of course, Ruhi had given her life a new dimension but the new meaning of her life was defined by him, only him! But she being his Jhansi ki rani would never accept it openly. "Aakir Raavan ki takkar ki biwi thi"
She kept the coffee on the table as he was in the washroom. She mentally scolded him seeing his coat and shirt thrown on the bed. She took them up, "discipline naam ke cheez hi nahi hai...even Ruhi is better than her papa"
As she hung the coat in the anchor, a card and a slip fell down on the floor. She picked it up and her eyes fell on the same of the gynaec. The appointment slip had Mr Raman Bhalla as the name
"Gynaec ka card aur appointment slip? But Raman gynaec ke paas?? Kyun??"
She couldn't come up to any conclusion with her thoughts debating over what the reason could be. She decided to check with Raman.
He walked him after changing his clothes and he saw the card in her hands. He smacked himself for his own slip of having left the card in his coat but a part of him also felt relaxed because it saved him from opening the topic. He could sense that she already guessed that he had been to the gynaec.
He posed indifference and spoke up, "Ishita, dinner karlen?"
She snapped out of her thoughts and turned to him, "hmmm" and followed him out of the room. She decided that she would talk about it after dinner or perhaps during dinner.
They have an unusually silent dinner and the reason was obviously the gynaec and the appointment.
Ishita cleared her throat once they were done with the food and Raman instantly knew that she was about to ask something and if his intuitions were right, it was about the card. He prepared himself to tell her in detail
"Raman, aaj aapne gynaec se..."
He snapped her words, "haan...tumaare liye gaya tha..."
Ishita misunderstood his words and assumed that he went to get the doctor's advice for her intense pain and heavy bleeding problem. She smiled and replied, "Thanks Raman...aap ne mere liye yeh sab kiya..."
He was a little surprised with her reply and assumed that she understood his intention of meeting the doctor. He spoke up after a brief silence, "She wanted to meet you...aur unnone kuch advice bhi diya...lekin"
She spoke up excitedly cutting short his words, "Raman, itna kya sochna? Main sab kuch karungi na?...unnke saare advices follow karungi...aakir mujhe bhi toh iss dard aur taqleef se baahar nikalna hai...itne saalon se yeh seh rahi hoom..."
She smiled as she cleared the plates and the table. The stunned look on his face didn't cease even after she went into the kitchen. He hadn't expected her to say this so easily. He hadn't told her what the advice was but then he thought to himself, "Yeh khud bhi toh Doctor hai aur samajh gayi hogi ke gynaec ne kya kaha...parr ab bhi thoda ajeeb toh lag raha hai! main kaise..."
Even his thoughts froze when he started thinking about consummating their marriage. It wasn't something that he didn't wish for. He actually, oblivious to himself had started desiring this. His love, care and concern for her had also given way to undeniable desire, wanting and passion for her. Even before the gynaec's advice, he had started thinking on these lines but wasn't sure if what he wished for was right.
He sat surfing through the channels in the living room. Though his fingers flipped the remote buttons, and his eyes were fixed on the TV monitor, his mind and heart were elsewhere. He had seen her walking into their bedroom. For the first time, he felt a little awkward to walk in there. He wondered how and where to start this new relationship.
After about 10 minutes, he heard her call him, "Raman...aake so jaahiye...it's very late...kal office bhi jaana hai na?"
She, on her part was confused that he didn't watch TV in their room but in the living room. She had initially felt it as a disturbance when he did that and also fought with him for the noise but nowadays, she couldn't sleep without his presence and the noise of the TV. Perhaps it was all part of her routine life now.
Meanwhile, he switched off the TV and took a deep breath. He also gulped in a bottle of ice cold water before walking to the room. He didn't know why he suddenly got glimpses of his first night with Shagun, the passionate night when he made love to Shagun for the first time. He was too much in love with his wife then but now he felt disgusted for having loved such a woman. He hissed in anger and the anger was towards himself for having brought in those memories into his mind at this moment.
He felt guilty for having thought about all that when he was trying to move forward with Ishita. Closing down all the doubts and the past memories, he entered the room. He saw her spreading the sheets of his bed and arranging the pillows properly. He smacked himself and corrected it as "their bed" as he walked towards her. She smiled casually and then he saw her picking the pillow and blanket. He was a little confused but she cleared his doubts when she walked to the couch.
He voiced, "Ishita" before she settled on the couch. She turned to him when he continued, "itna bada bed hai...phir couch kyun?"
She settled down smiling, "main yahi teek hoom Raman..."
Now her talk confused him a little but he was more determined. Her backing away from him seemed to have an ascending effect on his determination to make this work. So without a second thought, he walked to the couch and held her hand in his surprising her, "aakir kab tak tum aise couch pe rahogi Ishita? I have already given you place in my life and this room...ab yeh bed bhi..." His words trailed off and uneasiness set in.
He let a sigh of breath and spoke up, "Before anything else, we need to get used to each other. ...come..."
She couldn't understand what he meant by that or where they were heading to by this sudden turn but something chanted inside her heart and instructed her to obey him. His invite felt way too good to refuse.
He hadn't freed her hand and neither did she try to free away. She got up from the couch and he led her to the bed.
As they settled on two sides of the bed, their minds were restless and both wondered, "What next?"
