Kyunki Debate Championship- Judges Thread

Hi Everyone,

The very first debate in the Kyunki forum finally came to an end today. Though some people didnt bother turning up, the participants really made the debate worth reading.

Time for the judge's verdict. We have a panel of seven judges :

Please respect their decision and take their opinions constructively. They are to select a winning team, a winner, and a runner up (the winner and runner up will advance to the next round).

NOTE: This thread is for JUDGES and Organizers ONLY. Judges, please post your votes directly in this thread.

I would like to start off with saying that it was an amazing debate. I had a wonderful time reading the arguments. Kudos to all the members who participated and did an excellent job 👏

It was very disappointing to see that some people didn't show up. Unfortunately, their team members had to suffer because of that. But inspite of that, the teams managed to get over the absence of their members and were successful in putting forward a wonderful debate. Both the teams did go astray at some point in the debate where they lost focus on the main topic but that was a very minor thing and they soon got back to the topic. My detailed views and votes below...

Now for the analysis on the two teams:

TEAM 1: FOR (Argument - KSBKBT should end)

Comments: The team did a great job! The statements were very striking and they did a very good job in supporting their statement. Their examples were very note-worthy and their arguments and rebuttals were very impressive. They did a great job in taking quotes from the opposing team and basing their arguments on them. The language used was simple and straight-forward. The opening statement was brilliant and put forward their point of view in a very simple and impressive way.

A more aggresive debating attitude from some participants would have been helpful. As I mentioned before, examples used were very good but more references to back-up their argument would have greatly helped. They could have taken some topics from the forum as references to back-up their arguments on why Kyunki should end. Though this point was mentioned, no references were provided.

But other then these things, they did a superb job and their arguments were very hard-hitting. Though being short of a member, they did a brilliant job.

Comments: Wonderful job by the team! The participants looked absorbed in their debate and they really stood up for their point of view and for the side they were given and that is very important in debates. Your opening statement was great. It was detailed with good examples. The reasons cited were very nice, they did get the readers thinking and were convincing. The team did a good job in taking quotes and using them to post their statement.

Some stronger and more hard-hitting words would have been helpful. The words were simple and understandable but some words that would get stuck in the head would have been great. As I said for team 1, more aggresive debating from some members would have helped too. On one hand where some examples and references were great, some were very loosely based and did little to back up the argument.

Facts provided were nice and a lot of effort was put in standing up against the debate statement. This team was short of a member too but despite of that, a wonderful job was done

Now for the Winning team. My vote for the Winning team goes to

But that in no way means that Team 2 didn't do a good job. Team 2 was excellent too Both the teams did outstanding work 👏

As for the Winning and runner-up...

The member is a stunning debater. The arguments always stood out and struck very hard. Right from the very beginning to the very end of the debate, she held her ground and debated with the opposing team. Her opening statement was simple yet detailed with great facts and examples from the show. The references she provided were very good and she was successful in catching mistakes or contradictory statements of the opposing team. Her enthusiasm increased the energy level at the debate. Her posts always had a lot to say and her rebuttals had strong effects.

My vote for Runner-up Debater: -xx-Roohani-xx-
Right from the moment she started debating, she stood up for her topic. Her responses were very striking and straight to the point. Her rebuttals were great and very detailed. Her views were successful in making the readers think from her exact point of view. She backed up her statements with examples and references and her debating style was very impressive.

I would like to end with congratulating all the members who participated and great job to both the teams 👏

Ok! Debate Championship Round 1! Let's get started…

Ok, firstly, WHERE WAS EVERYONE UNTIL like, DAY 6?!?!!? I saw just Rutu posting!!!

PS – Other judges, please note, that Avani (bhaveshavani) had met with an accident and injured herself, so she could not take part of this debate…

So other than Avani, does anyone else have valid excuses? Hello64 did not even show up. Pikablu made just the opening statement. Others made fleeting comments here and there. Hardly "debating"…. I was very disappointed. More than disappointed. Why sign up if you cannot be bothered to post??

Ok, little rant over. I shall move on. 😊

The debate was a delight to read, especially in the last few days. The rebuttal was led by two main players from each team, rutumodi915 and -xx-Roohani-xx-… Everything from the history of KSBKBT to the generation leaps and the subsequent quality of the show to Gautami's entry was brought up and argued upon brilliantly. 👏 I really enjoyed it, even though, the first few days were a slump.

Moving on to the teams…

Team 1: Wonderful job by this team. 👏👏 The opening statement by rutumodi915was a delight to read, as were her rebuttals. I found her points extremely rational, logical and well planned. They were also simple to follow and easy to relate to. She caught the opposing team's lil glitches and argued effectively and convincingly. Measha also had a few good statements to make, but she just appeared here and there and didn't seem to catch my attention as much as Rutu did. I think this team a good job of convincing me that KSBKBT should end, as it has reached it's peak, and it should end, while on top!!! Bravo! 👏

Team 2: Better late than never, I say. Roohani's comeback seemed to bring life back in a one sided debate. Roohani did have a few valid points. Her use of various and myriad examples, and the way she stuck to her guns and argued her point so effectively impressed me. But I thought her Amitabh Bachchan example were a little out of context. That one kind of had me flummoxed. Nevertheless, she gave Rutu a terrific run for her money. Well done, you! 👏

So, after allll that bhashan, here is my decision…

Winner: rutumodi915
Rutu was the obvious star of the debate. She argued wonderfully, and more importantly, respectfully, which I found remarkable. There was no belittling of the opposing team or their views, as Rutu respected them, but contradicted them with grace and poise but effectively, and sometimes with quite a bit of humour, which I thoroughly enjoyed. 😛 It was a delight reading every post of hers in this debate. She seems to have convinced me about KSBKBT's pressing need to end! 😛😛😛

Runner up: -xx-Roohani-xx-
Roohani provided life to this debate after it started flagging due to the lack of responses. 👏 Her responses were snappy and made me sit up and take notice. She stood up formidably to Rutu and stood her own and argued her end efficiently. Great job!

All right folks, I'm here with my judgment. I read and re-read the post several times before forming these opinions, which I hope people respect even if people don't agree with me.

Please don't take my comments to heart. I have nothing against any of you, and rest assured my verdict is not based on who I like more, or whether I agree/disagree with the statement—at the end of the day, the winner was decided on the basis of arguments that left me convinced.

Before I start, I'd like to make a general comment on the level of sarcasm in the debate…that kind of affects the pleasant ambiance that I was expecting to see throughout.

Apart from the sarcasm, what really saddened me was the irresponsible attitude of some of the contestants, which didn't bother showing up to support their group members-it really wasn't fair to them. Guys, next time please think twice before signing up for such competitions, it's really a let down. Don't commit until you know you'll be able to give your time .I hope to see more responsible attitude in the 2nd debateL.

I would be lying through my teeth if I say the debate wasn't disappointing. I expected more. But, given the circumstances, the people who participated really pulled it of well and made it as scintillating as it was. A Big hand to all of you guys for making the debate this exciting.

Okay, enough of my rambling…here are the comments

Team 1; FOR the argument.(Kyunki should end)

Superb job !!! Rutumodi most definitely deserves a round of applause for handling the topic so nicely, and filling in for her dormant team members. Rutu,Persuasion and conviction are two qualities which make a good debater. You were the perfect mix of both of them. Your opening statement was very convincing, and at first I thought it completely stumped the other team, for they didn't reply for a really long time. Your rebuttals were wonderful, and your arguments were reasonable, lucid and coherent. From the beginning to the end, you left me convinced. I liked the way you pointed out the flaws of the opposite team, and countered each point with ease. Your examples were valid too, though I would have liked had you used more of them.Your closing statement completely summed everything up and left me no other choice but to agree , that indeed, Kyunki must come to an end now.

As for the other members, uru_hershey and measha could have been more supportive.You guys posted just a few arguments here and there… I really wish you guys had more to contribute. But whatever you did post, was helpful to your team in its own way.

Team 2(AGAINST the argument);

Roohani did a fantastic job with the opening statement. Pikalbu, your opening statement was good too, though towards the starting I felt you were agreeing more with the other team rather than posting arguments of your own! In any case, that was the only post you made…from what I could make out of that one post, you're a good debater. I really wish you didn't disappear after the first page, so you could have helped roohani with the rebuttals towards the end..

Roohani, your determination is commendable. Though you made a late entry, from the time you appeared you were constantly working towards getting your point across. You didn't have much support from your team members, yet you were amazing in the rebuttals, and matched up to rutu's sharp debating skills.

Aviskar—you could have posted more, or rebutted effectively.

Avani-Absent. Hope your hand is feeling better now though! :)

On the downside, I felt that this team had the tendency to drift away from the actual topic at times. Also, there was no closing statement.

Based on these observations, my results;

Starting off, the debate was awesome👏 Both teams had great debating skills and brought up points for the opposite team😃 Though I felt that there could have been more debate on this topic since

Team One: Kyunki Should End (rutumodi915, uru_hershey, hello64, measha)

The opening statement by rutumodi915 was awesome. Her points were right to the dot and she provided evidence to support it. She has the qualities of a good debater which she used during the debate. The team used quotes from the other team to prove themselves right. They showed alot of sprit & respected their opponents arguments as well. Great job done by those members who showed up and debated!👏

Team Two: Kyunki Shouldn't End (-xx-Roohani-xx-, pikablu, bhaveshavani, aviskar)

First there was no sign of Team Two but then Roohani showed up with a great opening statement. She tried to provide every reason for why Kyunki shouldnt end. She even found evidence and tried to back her arguments as much as she could. Pikablu also has a great opening statement. Overall the members who participated in this team did a great job !👏

There was only one closing statements. Due to incidents some members could not even participate! However the member who did, did an awesome job and debated all they could😃

Rutumodi
Gave a good introduction,
Used few quotes and represented what the audience's thoughts and converted in to the evidence
The only weakness was that the person ended up almost repeating the story, this was putting the point forward a bit but still I think I could have been a bit more compact
The argument in the first post was coherent and flowed well.
The person sounded convincing and she seemed to believe in what she said.
Person used simple language which made it easier to follow what she was arguing about.
In addition u also kept comming back and did a gr8 job 👏

u deserve a round of appaluase Rutu 👏 (i will give u 18/20 👏

Next the other team members, you all did post your comments but i think a better and coherent way of dealing could have gained u all more credit.

Roohani
She started off arguing and not having clear point. This was a weakness.
But the person did present the point, she was making , nicely. She used examples to demonstrate what she is talking about and this was a strength.
Her language was good and fit for the purpose. She seems to believe in what she is saying and is using techniques of persuasive language. However at one place she did use a sl*g. This should be avoided.

You did a gr8 job as well Roohani and you also deserve a round of appalause 👏 👏 i would give u 17/20 😳

okie finally i m here sorry for the delay 😳.....

starting off with the 1st team-

rutumodi915 did a gr8 job👏 the examples and all told made it easier to relate things. the team was replying to ever thing put forward by the oposite team .... the quoting of statements and all were done very well

Team 2;

they also did a nice job. Roohani did a good job too but more paticipation from the team would have been more nice to see. we could have had more examples aand all ad this topic is a neverending one.
