Most of the characters do not dress in keeping with the character or the situation. And that includes Ovi and Purvi.

I know folks from the fashion industry as well and most when not on the ramp or on a shoot, look and dress like normal young adults. And no young woman I know wears the Bengali saree like Purvi. So, why bring a link between sanskaar and the blouse?

Take a look at the offscreen pictures of these young actresses themselves. So the justification for Ovis character vs Purvis does not hold water.

Multiple posts about Purvi's blouses have been made implying that somehow she is crossing some line. The arguments on this thread underlines the fact that anything and everything about Purvi is not going to be acceptable to some and will always generate criticism.

in this serial women do NOT sleep with heavy jewellery ...coz richness is shown as a paap in this serial

it is emphasized that Manav is rich yet stays in a chawl

look at how Sulochana , ruchi , manju etc r dressed

perfectly middle class

so no i don't buy it that they r not doing research on middle class life

they know very well what it is .

The girl who plays Purvi is a pretty girl . Why dress her this oddly ? That printed puffed sleeved blouse always , for a considerable time they showed those billowing bengali saris , those wigs , why not show her in something appropriate and attractive both for once ?

If u ask me , the CVs r using these backless blouses simply to show back and to infuse the subtle sexual element although they know very well it is not in keeping with the character .

I am even against the constant wearing of saris they show to denote a married sanskari status in this serial . Ovi is shown as westernized so these r not her beliefs but Purvi is shown as wearing saris to denote sanskar of indians ...how weird does it look , a middle class smart young girl who was working in an office in today's times , wearing saris but low back blouses that look odd in a subzi mandi ?

What the CVs r trying to do is show her as sanskaari by keeping the sari but infusing the sexual element by low cut backless blouses or transparent saris below midriff in parties and they introduce question marks in viewer's minds .

I don't have a problem if she dresses up like the modern woman at all . Infact i say they should show a scene where Onir insists she wears salwar khameezes or jeans like young girls do .

And no , its not about Ovi becoming the lead , this discussion is entirely different .

SANSKAR has to do with how you react - outwardly and inwardly to any given situations - nothing to do with dressing.

You could be fully covered from head to toe and utter vulgarities - now that would not be Sanskari would it?????????????

Of course, if Sanskar has to do with dressing, we should not wear the saree as it exposes your midriff - however well covered you are with your dupatta!!!!

Some people in this forum seem to have an agenda and it has nothing to do with Sanskaar and right and wrong.

I wonder how vocal they are when they are out and about socialising and see people dressed in this way - especially their close relatives. Are they this vocal there???

There really is no point in engaging in debate with you as you have no valid points to make. You are on a one woman mission to bash Purvi! I will refrain from making any further comments on your disjointed thinking!

This is modern feminist philosophy. I am sure people here have heard of the s**t walk. In a day and age when women are increasingly assertive of their right to flaunt even, if that is what they desire, it is funny to see people making character judgments based on dress. Even worse, practically toeing the disgusting chauvinistic perspective that a woman's state of dress is indication of her being easy game!

I know these are fictional characters but the people discussing here are real. Many of them may wear clothes or lead lives that a lot of people here seem to find morally reprehensible. You are entitled to your opinions but please don't cast stones at those who do not share your set of values. They are just differently wired than you, That does not make you superior to them or vice versa.

Sorry if I am hurting anyone's sentiments here. But the argument was straying well away from the show and getting judgmental about people.

In my opinion, PR should teach us at least one lesson. Not to be judgmental! No character is perfect or a paragon of virtue. They all have shades of grey, they have all made mistakes and they have all screwed up the lives of others, whatever be their intentions. So, how does that make one superior to the other?

Excellent post! Agree with all your points! Live and let live is the policy! We shd not be judgemental of women's clothing or choices in life.

Now according to some members here, Bengali gharoa style saris are unattractive and Bengali style blouses with billowing sleeves look ODD!.
That is really awful and attacking my regional culture!
Am I attacking any regional dress here? Am I saying the Marathi way of wearing saris looks unattractive? Nope, I dont regionalize like that! I am not prejudiced and regionalistic!
I am an Indian (although living abroad but still an Indian citizen) and I do take offense to someone attacking my cultural traditions of wearing sari and blouse.

Purvi was shown in these blouses ever since she has been married and started wearing saris. Okay, she likes the style and wears backless cholis, what is the problem in that?

As to the fact she shouldn't be wearing those blouses in a red light area, let me ask, why does Savi's friend live in such an undesirable neighborhood? I hope no one casts stones at Savi dear in her advanced age for visiting such a neighborhood!

Kidding apart, looks like the Dutts have moved from the room where they were arrested. And as someone else brilliantly pointed out, the Dutts are strapped for cash and Purvi cannot go buying new "appropriate" clothes! Not that she should, she is used to those blouses and has been wearing them a while. Same way that Ovi is excused for being accustomed to those minis and strappy salwars and short dresses on account of her being a model and raised in Canada.

Really? Ovi does not believe in the same sanskars and so can wear what she pleases? Why then did she switch from her minis to those awful looking spaghetti strap salwars every morning as she handed juice to Arjun? If she could switch from minis to salwars, she could have adopted something a bit more authentic and traditional, right? But then she is Ovi and anything goes for her unlike for Purvi.

Sharadrocks, great posts. Agree, how could anyone blame any girl's attire for the indecency of the men that ogle her? Rolls of fat, muffin tops, yes, they may not look appealing but we sure can avert our eyes. It is the prerogative of the woman to dress how she pleases, tasteful dressing is admired but if not, we can always look away and who is to define tasteful anyway?

where does the question of attacking any regional culture comes in ?

I find the Bengali way of life most attractive , have grown up with them as they r my relatives , my sister is married to a bengali .

The word billowing is not negatively used at all . Those saris were used in her pregnancy coz she had a huge tummy .

I would have said so to say any young girl constantly wearing these traditional clothes in today's world looks questionable to me . I would say the same if she was constantly shown wearing nau vari saris in today's times . I would not say a thing if she dressed in Onir's cultural way by wearing pujo saris during festivals or even had a problem while she was wearing them in Kolkata . But here it looked unnecessary and i was emphasizing that since she is young and pretty , give her appropriate , every day clothes .

So why make it a marathi vs bengali culture thing unnecessarily ?

This post is not about the backless blouses , it is to make unsuitable styles acceptable by making a huge culture issue unnecessarily . Motives noted .

Nope . Ovi does NOT have the sanskaars that Purvi has ...this is what the serial shows . It is the story . Odd way of showing it since Purvi has the unwed pregnancy and wears those blouses all the time .

About the maid . Precisely my point . Purvi as a character will NOT wear fancy dresses imitating any fashion ...a maid may . Purvi is NOT a maid .

Kool, please walk away from this thread. Anything that is being said here is continuously misconstrued and misinterpreted. No room for a healthy argument. Most members don't know how much Bengali you yourself are...just move on, please...

btw, no one in Bengal too, were backless blouse on a daily basis, can one imagine what could happen to those blouses in an overcrowded notorious bus😉
