Today's PR episode was like the proverbial curate's egg- good in parts (please don't ask me WHAT the curate's egg is and why it is good only in parts. I confess that I do not have a clue!).

The totally unexpected good (and really good) part was Archana running verbal rings round a fuming Savita - drop shots, volleys, rallies and smashing serves - till the harridan was driven against the wall and seemed to give up at least temporarily. Since I had taken it for granted that Archana would play Patience to the hilt, I probably enjoyed what actually turned up that much more.

Then, Archana, possibly having a small stock of glycerine that had gone past the expiry date, decided to indulge in her mandatory crying stint. For the topic, she chose the awful consequences that would follow if Teju and Ovi found out that she was their mother, and this more for Sulochana than even for herself.

In PR and other soaps, doors and windows only exist so that they can be kept ajar for the mandatory eavesdropper, who can thus have life somewhat easier than with an ear pressed close to the wood or an eye to the keyhole, always afraid that the door might suddenly be opened. No prizes for guessing who is outside the door!

The Monster-in-Law thus learns that Teju has been living with Archana for 3 months but still does not know that Archana is her mother. Also, more to the point for her, that Archana is mortally afraid of facing the hostility from her daughters that she is sure will follow the revelation. From this to Thursday's dhamaka is but one step. This is what is called apne pair par khud kulhadi marna ( digging one's own grave), in which the Archanas of the world are specialists.

Oh, yes, the eagerly awaited Arjun-Purvi segment. The honours in this go to Ovi; she is undergoing an image makeover from the haughty miss who gave Archana a dressing down before the shopping expedition. She is absolutely sweet and thoughtful both to Purvi and about Arjun (I suspect that she is turning Purvi up sweet to get her to trace the anonymous caller and also keep an eye on Arjun). Purvi puts her on the speaker phone, thus giving Arjun/Rithwik a chance to display his best take on remorse and self-disgust, which he holds for a good long time as well. It is a change of sorts from the hangdog expression that has been his staple of late.

Purvi looks resolutely accusatory, glaring upwards at him. She also indulges in a savage monologue about the miseries she is going thru, disguising this as understanding and empathy for Ovi's present plight. She makes it a point to do all this, including an emphatic statement that she has never loved anyone, standing a foot away from Arjun, thus making sure that he does not escape anything.

There was nothing new, nothing that Purvi has not already said many times before, and I for one found it - both the words and her expressions, repetitive and much of a muchness. If these are the Arjun-Purvi scenes that are to be thrown at us like bones to a puppy, I would rather do without them. Their scenes have, for 2-3 weeks now, being each like a bad carbon copy of the previous one, and there is nothing to rejoice over when yet another fuzzy carbon copy turns up. I am sure many of you will not agree, but I am not going to dance a jig to celebrate this one.

A really wicked character always makes for compelling viewing, and Punni walked off with the acting honours today.
The hard angular planes of her face add to the impact as she drips venom like a hissing snake. She does not turn a hair as she declares, with obvious relish, that it was she who had made and circulated the MMS and made the anonymous phone call. One gets the distinct impression that she is delighted to have this unexpected opportunity to boast about her cleverness, and Purvi's shocked and unbelieving expression must have been icing on the cake for her. No wonder she adds, contemptuously, that she could never understand what Arjun Sir saw in such a "dumb girl".

The scene ends with Purvi acutely conscious of being between a rock and a hard place, and her retort that she will tell all to Ovi and the others rings hollow. Punni flaunts the MMS warningly, and also threatens to tell Archana. This is Purvi's Achilles heel; she knows that she cannot risk breaking her mother's heart with these revelations. Punni does not fail to twist the knife in hard by saying that her affair had at least been with an outsider, whereas Purvi was doing the same thing with her own sister's fiance. Purvi listens in speechless horror and despair. One can understand why she neither explains nor rebuts any of this; it would have had NO effect at all.

In the precap, Punni offers a quid pro quo: Purvi should not expose her role in the MMS affair and the anonymous call, and she would keep mum about Purvi's 'affair'with Arjun.

I do not think Purvi will tell anything to anyone - either Archana or Arjun. She will keep quiet for the present, and so, most reluctantly, will Punni, for if there is a showdown, Purvi has cast iron technical proof that the anonymous call was made from Punni's place. It is rather like a Mexican standoff -with each of them with a (metaphorical)gun to the other's head, trying to make sure she does not blink first. Clint Eastwood would have loved this!

Dear Shyamala,
Love your post👏, except for the paragraph in bold😆. I was happy not to have to tolerate any PDA between OVI-AK, which is soon coming once she returns from Goa. Therefore, I will take any stale dialogues from arjun-purvi or fighting between them than have to go without any arvi for days on end😔 or to watch limpet hanging on to the arms and shoulders of silent AK, while Purvi cries bearing witness to it all.

Dear Trish,

I can see your point of view, of course, but honestly, if I have to sit thru any more of these Arjun-Purvi scenes, I will burst into tears myself, and I will not even need Ankita's out of date glycerine for that!

Hi Shyamala, very nice analysis of today's show, yet I am not sure I will watch it tonight or not. If I watch then only to watch Purvi-Punni part. I love the following part; I always have the same complaint.

I can not believe you used the word Monster In Law; I thought of it as well. But it always make me think of Jane Fonda who was fantastic, and looked very pretty in the movie. JeLo was not like Archana at all. So I never used the word MIL for Savita. Jane Fonda used proper language. I also did not get much excited about ArVi scene, from the posts, it looks like they are still very much detach. I also love the following part, this show is basically running on
many characters (most of them are good) keeping secrets...

Shyamala, very well summed up as usual! First of, your title was intrguing and I had to look it up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curate's_egg very interesting analogy!
If you checked out Trish's thread, I felt the same that explaining to Punni about anything would be wasted energy and she wouldn't get it anyway. I do not think Purvi will tell Archana either, the CVs like to dish out one damaka at a time and the Ovi/Teju confrontation will be the biggest blow to Archana this week. The CVs might hold off this ugly disclosure to next week or even the week after. ARVI getting together is still quite far away.
Darlyne, you are not missing much but do watch the Archana/Savita scene if you can, it was not too bad.

Dear Shyamala,
Excellent Analysis on today's episode.
This may be the 1st time my views on the episode exactly match yours, even including angular planes of Punni's face!

- I too don't want any ArVi scenes if they aren't going to resolve their differences and work on getting back together. Can't believe they have nothing else to talk. As you said 'much of muchness' ! Getting bored of the same accusations. For a change Arjun had a different expression 😆 and yeah, RD was good.

- BTW, Purvi was tagging around Arjun😲 where ever he went in the small room to avoid forcibly being made to listen to the speakerphone. I mean, come on, it is such a small room, the phone is on speaker, it is not like he is talking so that he has to come close to the phone, there was no need for her to block him every where he went. As if she isn't hiding anything from anyone.

- Purvi telling that she never loved anyone. She is lying to Arjun, to Ovi and more importantly to herself as well.

- Wasn't much impressed by Archana-Savita scene, since it was repeat from age old episodes, but did enjoy. Probably showing Archana having an upper-hand before letting her go into the cry-mode after Savita does her parda-faash to Ovi and Teju.

- Punni-Purvi scene was really good and Punni simply outshone and so did Jia Mustafa. I liked her chiseled jawline shown from the camera angle, which added to her winning the battle over Purvi. She had no qualms in accepting the wrong she did and flaunted it. I couldn't help but compare her to Manju, her mother. Manju would be fretting in sweat if she found herself in such situations, but this girl was totally cool and so in-control. That part about "dumb girl" had me in shock and 😆 This scene was the highlight of today's episode for me.

- Though Purvi is cornered from all angles and I do feel bad, but I 'm not sure if I totally sympathise with her. At the end she decides to tell the truth to Archana, but she might not be able to bcos Archana would have gotten into a mess with her children after Savita reveals the identity of their mother to Ovi and Teju.

Lastly, I thought it was morally incorrect on Purvi's part to let Arjun listen on to Ovi's private talk with her without her knowledge, whatever the reasons were for her or whatever reasons were that of Ovi in calling her. Arjun felt disgusted, yes, but by that -
1. does Purvi want Arjun to tell Ovi their truth? In that case, doesn't she want Arjun for herself? In that case, Purvi was clearly lying to Ovi. or,
2. does Purvi want to show Ovi's plight to Arjun? In that case, whatever lie she said about not loving anyone could be applied and that could mean she doesn't want Arjun. Then why all the accusations?
or,
3. does Purvi want to prove Arjun that he is not good for either of the girls? Then shouldn't she disclose that to Ovi?
4. or is there something else that I can't seem to think?

p.s: Archana uses Vicks Vaporub instead of glycerin. Seen that in one of the off-screen segment long time back. Not sure if she continues even now.

We all seem to be in agreement for the first time 😆 I agree with the too much of muchness. Punni clearly had the upperhand, was a little disappointed with Purvi's reaction today, she could have been a little fiesty and told her cousin off that she did not knowingly fall in love with her sister's fiance and that there was no chakkar - on second thoughts - that would be admittance to guilt of sorts and Purvi is better off keeping mum but her facial expressions seemed wooden today. (Not criticizing my beti just the way the scene was put together! 😃)
Bee, the way I saw Purvi insist on Arjun listening in to her conversation with Ovi, (yes, she should not have as Ovi was pouring out her feelings of insecurity but Purvi perhaps did not know this going into the conversation?), was -
1) Purvi feels more secure in her relationship with Arjun than she lets on - she trusts he will not share that she did this and she is comfortable sharing her conversations with him (much like a husband and wife?). Ovi on the other hand still has some barriers where Arjun is concerned inspite of the bond they share, she is not willing to expose her deepest vulnerabilities about him to him. Purvi has no such hang-ups, she lets him know every step of the way that he has hurt her and that she did let down her guard with him. Unconsciously, but I see that she is very, very sure of him in her own way, not about the fact that he will own up to Ovi any time soon but about their sense of belonging despite their present situation and misunderstanding.
2) reason why she wanted Arjun to listen to the conversation? my take was a bit different on this. I think it is a combination, of your reason 2 and something more. She wants to let him know that Ovi is deeply in love with him and that in insisting on carrying on with her, Purvi, he is bound to hurt Ovi. Not that she herself doesn't want Arjun but that it is an impossible situation and that she is nearly at the end of her tether. "Look what you have done, are you guilty now? You are going to hurt her, you have already hurt me. See where your cowardice has brought us all, I don't think you can get out of this as easily as you think however long you take. You let me down, make sure you don't let her down at least." Arjun read all this and hence, his guilt ridden face.

Hi Jhanvi, I did watch the episode tonight after a long time! ArVi did not do much for me. Savita-Archana scene was a little different so I like it. I had my doubt on Archana's crying but thought may CV are listening and Archana will not cry in this episode but it was only wishful thinking. Archana started crying right after her scene with Savita regarding if Tej-Ovi find out the truth about her.

Yeah it was good, but then, wats the use of it now??? If she wud hav taken these steps 18 yrs back, then it wud hav been more acceptable and understandable...but now, I think its useless, bcoz its Savita who wil play a bigger game n make Archana cry...So, the best thing for me to watch wud be Archana staying away from Monster-In-Law(I just loved the new name😆😉)...but this lady has already sacrificed all her dignity, wat more can we expect from her???

Then, Archana, possibly having a small stock of glycerine that had gone past the expiry date, decided to indulge in her mandatory crying stint. For the topic, she chose the awful consequences that would follow if Teju and Ovi found out that she was their mother, and this more for Sulochana than even for herself.
Exactly...I just fail to understand this lady...she said she has changed in the last 18 yrs, but I really can't see any change in her except for her dressing which m just loving, but apart from that, she is the same cry baby n the Great Goddess of Sacrifice...who can bear all the insults from her loved ones n still manage to smile, love them n respect them..

This is so hilarious but so very true!!!!👏😆 Ur writing is just amazing and a treat to read!!!!😛

This is what is called apne pair par khud kulhadi marna ( digging one's own grave), in which the Archanas of the world are specialists.

yeah...but this time Savita's trick wil backfire n as we read in the article, Teju wil realise the goodness of Archana...I just hope any one intelligent person from the Deshmukh family(if there is actually any such person there😆) uses their mind n suspects Savita behind all this n exposes her, n I wish this person to b Teju...😃

Even I feel the same...she is smart n manipulative n has all traits of Savita in her...she is just using Purvi for her own selfish reason n wil not spare her wen she cums to know of the truth...and now, in a day or two she'll b knowing that Purvi is her sister, and later wen she cums to know of ArVi relationnship...she wil b at her negative best!!!!!😕

I am sure many of you will not agree, but I am not going to dance a jig to celebrate this one.

yeah...the same repititive dialogues, n Arjun had the courage to make yet another Ppromise...m just loving the way Purvi is handling herself n keepig strong infront of him..

Dunno wat to say about this girl...she thinks she is too smart, but ultimately she'll fal in her own trap...I dunno how can she think that Arjun wil love her or marry her after knowing wat all she did to him...her wedding date is fast approaching, I want to see how she gets out of that!!!

As they say, "God helps only those who helps themselves..."...I really appreciate Purvi for her decision today, coz wat she has decided inspite of all the blackmailing from Punni, is a very brave step...n I believe, the base of any relationship shud be truth, n thats the quality which Purvi has, n Archana believes in hiding truths n sacrificing for saving relationships which has ultimately made her lose all the relations...I just love this girl😳
