You know what, it's best to take peoples religious inclinations completely out of the equation. When India was partitioned one of the first speeches Jinnah made in Independent Pakistan was on a Pakistan being a
secular nation. He basically said every single religion has the right to practice freely in Pakistan and there will be no religious restrictions imposed on any of the countries citizens. That is how Pakistan was founded, so why does the leader need to be religious?
What I find really ironic is that a lot of the people who denounce Imran because he's not religous enough (which really who are they to judge), are the very same people who revere Jinnah and cannot hear a single word against him.
The fact of the matter is Jinnah was very similar to Imran. He was educated in the West. He was not religious throughout his youth and adolescence. He used to drink, that is a fact so many people have attested to. It wasn't until much later in his life that he began observing religion properly. The whole reason Jinnah and Ghandi didn't see eye to eye is because Ghandi believed in a religious state and Jinnah believed in religion and state separatism. He knew the minority's would be quashed in a religious state, hence Pakistan. Jinnah was very pro the co-mingling of the best features of western culture, with the best features of Indian culture.
That is basically exactly what Imran Khan stands for today. Taking the framework for state legislation from western countries and adapting them to Pakistani needs.
Under the first dozen prime-ministers Pakistan was a thriving country. It was one of the fastest developing countries in the world. It was literally shooting up, because the state stuck to Jinnah's original ideals which were: education, and freedom. The minute the state deviated from these ideals Pakistan became a declining country and now the majority of its population are living at or below the poverty line. There is a massive divide in classes, and the only way that divide can diminish is if we revert to placing importance on education, and state-benefits. Currently Imran Khan is the
only politician offering these things, and his track record suggests he will follow through if he is elected.
