Imran Khan

Imran Khan is arguably the most well-known and distinguished personality of Pakistan. He has made a mark globally for his impressive track record in sports, community service and politics. He has earned impeccable accolades for his commitment and conviction that life's energy is best spent in the service of humanity.

From his early education in Lahore, Imran Khan went onto Oxford, where he earned his graduate degree. In 1971, he joined Pakistan's national cricket team. After retiring from an extraordinary career as a world-class cricketer, where he led Pakistan to its first World Cup victory in 1992, Imran set his sights on positively impacting the lives of Pakistan's masses. Most notable among his humanitarian efforts has been the establishment of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, named after his late mother. It is Pakistan's first and only cancer hospital that provides 75% free health care, and was built on public donations. Imran is now building a second hospital in Karachi, based on the successful Lahore model. In 1994, he inaugurated Namal College, a technical college which is now an associated college of University of Bradford.

Imran Khan is a tireless fundraiser for social causes in education, health and basic social services who brings intelligence, energy and unwavering commitment to his public service work. In the wake of recent floods, he founded Imran Khan Foundation, and raised much needed funds from the Pakistanis community at home and abroad for relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts, to ease the burden of poor communities in the aftermath of Pakistan's most devastating floods ever.

Imran Khan has also been a Member of Parliament in Pakistan and had been a vocal advocate for lending support to social, judicial, economic, environment and governance issues that have a direct impact on the peace, stability and development of Pakistan. He is the founder chairperson of Tehreek-e-Insaf, a political party which seeks to bring political stability through credible democracy, transparency in government and accountability of leadership.

Sorry to butt in here.

But don't you think it's time that we vote for someone who we think can do something for once?
We have voted for PPP and see where we are today - corruption, swiss accounts, poorer getting poorer, basic necessities are so expensive that even the middle-class people can't afford them. MQM sat in the opposition and didn't do anything either. PML-N is another thing, all they have done is give out laptops and get really pretty looking buses running in Lahore - what about the rest of Pakistan? Does Sindh, Peshawar, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa not go under Pakistan as well? And please, their mission of giving out laptops was a bribe and only that. My cousin sitting in a very big and pretty house got a laptop whereas she probably has a Ipad and doesn't even require one.

But then again, to each its own. No one here can change your perspective just like you can't change anyone elses. All we can do is think and vote.

Also, you ask what Imran Khan has done for Pakistan. He's done no one has ever done. He's gotten NORMAL people in his party! Normal people like you and I are standing up for elections and getting voted for. Whereas the other parties (namely the ones listed above) have politicians who are old and on the verge of being bazillionaires! All in the name of money! Imran Khan ASKS us to vote for him and not BRIBE us. THAT'S the difference. That's the thing that makes him stand out from the rest!

PS: I don't mean to offend you or anyone here. But it's time we appreciate someone who is truly doing something for Pakistan.

So the awards were for the fundraising and CRICKET
I was not only talking about him but other mercenary politicians also , you think I didn't do any research I did
ISLAMABAD: Khawaja Asif, a senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), alleges that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan lost a huge amount of money which was donated to his social welfare hospital, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, in a real estate gamble.

Asif, accompanied by two other PML-N leaders, held a press conference in Islamabad on Wednesday and handed out hard copies of "evidence" against Khan's investments.

The leader said that a total of $4.5 million were invested abroad, which was "in fact the money gained from sadqaat, fitrana and zakat… This was the money of the Pakistani nation which went abroad."

"In British Virgin Islands, a shell company was first registered. That company transferred money into a company, HBG in Dubai, then HBG bought shares of Sugarland company worth $3 million. During 2009-2010, Sugarland declared losses and in the coming two years, it faced 64% losses. Here, the money of Shaukat Khanum invested by Imran Khan also faced a loss but it was not shown," Asif said while referring to the documents he had distributed.

The leader mentioned the Double Shah scam and said that Double Shah would at least ask for investments and not for donations, and his business was more transparent than this one. "Imran Khan doesn't get tired of unleashing allegations against the entire world, but he should first look at himself too."

Asif questioned Khan that if the investment was so safe and profitable, then why did he not put in his own money rather than that of Shaukat Khanum. "This is not a scandal of the PTI, this was a play of Shaukat Khanum's money… Shaukat Khanum has not published its balance sheets, the last one available is from 2010, which we have provided to you.

"Imran Khan should reply himself or someone from the trust should reply. Who knows what game Imran Khan is playing with the people's money and where he's investing the donations," he added.

'Shaukat Khanum workers are Khan's friends or family'

Asif also alleged that those working at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital are either Khan's friends or family members. "Another important person is Imtiaz Haideri. He is a member of Imran Khan's trust, is a chief executive in Dubai and a chief executive in British Virgin Islands too."

"In this party (PTI), they are all real estate businessmen or are involved in collecting donations. There is this singer as well, who also collects donations. The whole leadership is involved in the real estate business, they are all gamblers," said Asif adding that he is providing proof from Shaukat Khanum's own papers.

"We are not speculating or assuming this. We have handed you all the balance sheets too on which all the investments are stated."

"During a Public Accounts Committee meeting, I asked NAB without mentioning any name that if a social welfare organisation is involved in such gambling investment, does your law allow them to catch them. They told me yes, they would take action… When the time comes, we will also go to the court."

"We know it hurts the credibility of leaders before the elections, but we are trying to show the real face (of Imran Khan) on how he is managing the donations," Asif added.

"Imran Khan took some wrong decisions and the trust should not bear the losses. The loss should come on his personal balance sheet."

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is a party which can harm Pakistan to any extent just to come into power, accused Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Wednesday.

Responding to the money laundering accusations levelled against him by PML-N senior leader Khawaja Asif, Khan said the party should have at least considered doing a little more investigation into the matter before speaking to the public.

"Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital is not Imran Khan's personal hospital; the patients are not my relatives, they are Pakistanis," said Khan, adding that by attacking the hospital, PML-N has caused harm to many Pakistanis who receive free health care at the hospice.

"It is the only free cancer hospital and PML-N should have thought before doing this," Khan stated.

Lamenting that the PML-N dragged a welfare institute into the mud of politics, Khan said the finger-pointers should have attacked him but not the hospital.

Calling PML-N's allegations baseless, the PTI chairman said the $3 million amount mentioned by Khawaja is already stated in hospital's balance sheet. "If we had misused the money, we would have not mentioned it in our accounts," Khan clarified.

As if to further admonish Khawaja, Khan pointed out that the PML-N leader had in fact relied on their public balance sheet to pick out all the numbers for his accusation.

Calling the accusation that zakat money was invested abroad a lie, Khan said that the hospital receives money from donors within the country and from those outside of it. He said the amount of money hospital gets in zakat is never enough to provide free health service and so fund raising events are organised to bridge the shortfall.

He further explained that the foreign donations are collected in a dollar account which is managed by the hospital's endowment fund. "The endowment fund uses this money for investment and earn profit on it," he declared.

"The endowment fund has its own board which decides how to use the money, a board of which I'm not a member," Khan said, adding that the board decided to invest money in Dubai as property prices were rising back then.

Answering the accusations point by point, Khan said the money never went abroad from Pakistan as it was a part of the endowment fund and the company, where the hospital's endowment fund invested, was owned by Imtiaz Haideri, who is also the chief executive.

"The investment crashed all of a sudden," Khan admitted, but, said, the owner had promised them that they will earn profit on the investment and will not incur losses.

The PTI chairman said the PML-N probably played this blame game now because it's Ramazan and the hospital receives huge amount of donations this time of the year.

"Khawaja might be upset by this but I want to tell him that we have received Rs40 million from Sialkot and raised Rs60 million through a fund-raising iftari in Lahore," Khan boasted.

The PTI chief added that Khawaja might have levelled the allegations just to prevent the hospital from getting funds, adding that the PML-N has pulled such a stunt before.

"In 1997, I had to face a lot of trouble. I had to tour all over the globe to raise funds for the hospital as donations stopped coming in after PML-N created similar doubts," he said.

To answer your question endowment fund has a different account to Zakat...the investments made have earned profit which are also used in treatment of cancer patients and other costs for Hospital
Beside this investment has a guarantee from the owner that whatever profit be made will be shaukat Khanum's and losses will be of the company...so even in worse situation there won't be any loss
Besides all the account details of Shaukat Khanum are always on there website and even that data was obtained from there

Namaz is a personal matter...to be honest I don't think it should be brought in politics even by Imran Khan's supporters
Having said that even in Makkah people pray in different style and I think God is the best one to judge how one should pray

Politics apni jaga, but I absolutely hate it when people start taking cheap shots regarding whether an indvidual practices or not, whether they practice correctly or not.

When we vote someone into power even Islamically we are supposed to vote for the person we believe will provide a just government for every single citizen. That is our duty.

Now Imran did live his life outside religion when he was young. He admits it in in his memoir. He says through college, and his crciket career he was spiritually diseased, and it wasn't until he was going through a rough patch and his mum told him to read the Quran to deal with it that he began his spiritual journey and became attatched to religion.

That's from the horses mouth and when it comes to religion we are supposed to believe what the person says. If you say you read namaz five times a day I am obligated to believe you do I am not allowed to be suspicious of you, and if I am suspicious I am obligated to keep those suspicions to myself.

Even if we go out together and it's time for namaz and you don't read it, I would be required to give you the benefit of the doubt because there could be any number of reasons why you missed the namaz. And as far as I know that one instance could have been an exception to the rule, not the rule itself.

In that picture he has his hands in the wrong position. However that is no basis on which to assume he doesn't read namaz. Maybe he slipped up and made a mistake that day.

As for the Shaukat Khanum stuff. Like Raindrops said, all the accounts are on their website. As far as I can see there is nothing untoward going on there.

Shaukat Khanum uses all the zakat money for treatment. Every single penny. Building maintenance, repairs, etc, are all made using the money raised at fundraisers.
