As per Hindu Customs,we've this ritual of Kanyadaan where parents give away their daughter to the groom.
There was a ad of Manyavar which featured Alia Bhat where she was sitting as a bride and ask the question, "Am I, a woman,a commodity to be given away in charity?"
Why must a woman be commodified through the custom of kanyadaan?
This particular thing created a fierce polemic where people from different strata of Society came forward and jilted this particular ritual.
Do you think is it imperative for us to abide by this ritual in present times where we are talking of equality, rights of girls to education, rights to have share in property, everything!
Does the kanyadaan serve any purpose in today's society?
Or kanyadaan has been misinterpreted?
Ab to mai Roz ek news pashi hi leti hu where girls ate putting it down, saying papa mai saman nahi.🌚🌝
What do you guys think😆😆
Vaise mere 10th mai hindi mai poem bhi thi
Kanyadaan- Rituraj ki🤓🤓
Giving away the bride is a custom in almost all religions, not just ours. Don't know about others, but in the Hindu wedding rituals, customs are highly skewed, giving a higher standing to the groom's side and that is my objection. Rituals like the washing n wiping the feet of the groom and his family are highly objectionable for me.
In the olden times, kanyadaan was quite literal, since after marriage the husband was wholly responsible for the girl's wellbeing and happiness. But now the situation has changed...girls are more independent, both financially and in thinking, so it won't harm to take a relook at some of the more regressive customs.
Given the increasing equality of men and women, even our wedding vows should be more in tune with times.
Having said that, sometimes there are other deeper meanings which we are not aware of. So it is equally important for us to find out the origin and meaning of rituals before abolishing them
