Part 53:Continue from: Gunjan and SamratStanding across from each other, Gunjan can sense Samrat's eyes asking her too many questions. She decides to avoid any conversation. Gunjan: main di ko bulane ja rahi hu Samrat.
Samrat takes a look at Mayank and Nupur, busy having dinner -Nupur persuading Mayank to try some dessert. Samrat: Nupur ne abhi khaana bhi nahi khaya Gunjan. Use bhukha hi le jaogi kya?
Gunjan is flustered.Gunjan: uh..woh..
Samrat: arey yeh uh aur woh ka bhoot phir se chad gaya tumhe? Ab toh mantri ko bulana hi padega.
Gunjan:
(puzzled) mantri?
Samrat: haan, wohi jo bhoot bhagate hai.
Gunjan:
(smiles) tantrik kehte hai unhe, mantri nahi.
Samrat: shukar hai, apke face par smile toh aayi. Aise hi smile karte rahogi toh raat aur din me farak karna hi bhul jaunga.
Gunjan: mujhe ghar jana hai Samrat.
Samrat: kyun? Ghar pe kya hai? Sab toh yahi hai na Gunjan.
Gunjan: wo actually kal college hai na.. maine notes bhi nahi banaye.
Samrat sighs and looks towards the sky.Samrat: ek aap ho, ek wo Mayank hai. By God, Nupur sahi kehti hai. Log itna padh kaise sakte hai? Books ki shakal dekhke bore nahi ho jaate tum?
(Looks around) Espcially jab itni khusbusrat shakle dekhne ka wait kar rahi ho.
(Checks out Gunjan's expression) Mazaak kar raha tha chashmish.. tum aur tumhare books dono hi mahaan ho.
Gunjan takes a deep breath and looks at Samrat directly.Gunjan: mere liye books sirf books nahi hai Samrat, mera support system hai, mera strength hai. Dost se kayi badhkar hai kyunki kabhi bhi unhe kho dene ka darr nahi hota.
(Slowly) Na waqt ke beetne se aur na hi kisi aur ke milne se.
Samrat: toh tum apne aur books ke rishte ko kya naam dogi Gunjan, agar dost nahi hai toh?
Gunjan: yeh kaisa sawaal hai?
Samrat: batao na, koi toh naam hoga na.
Gunjan: yeh zaruri nahi hota Samrat ke har rishte ka koi naam ho. Kuch rishte bahut special hote hai..
Samrat leans closer to her.Samrat: exactly chashmish. Har rishte ka naam ho yeh zaruri nahi.. par isse wo aur khaas bante hai.. ab main book toh hu nahi jo galtiya na karu ya auro ko galtiya karne se rok saku. Main toh bas tumhe yeh yakeen dilane ki koshish kar sakta hu.. ke tum mere liye kitni special ho.
Gunjan opens her mouth to say something but Samrat interrupts.Samrat: chalo bahut hua lecture, aaj ki raat tumhe jagane ke liye itna kaafi hai.
(Winks)
Gunjan shakes her head at how Samrat will always be Samrat and inspite of her prior resolutions of keeping away from him, she smiles and feels as special as he had just told her she was. Cut to: Radz, Pragya, AdityaMiss Aha is all set to become Mrs Aha - she had decided to keep her own surname even after tying the nuptial knot. As the couple goes around the sacred fire, Pragya looks on with a dreamy look in her eyes. Radz notices it and teases her about it.Radz: kahi Miss Aha ki jagah tum toh nahi hona chahti thi na Pragya?
Pragya snaps out of her reverie.Pragya: for God sake Radz, I am not a homebreaker.
Radz: toh tum itne gaur se kya dekh rahi ho?
Pragya:
(cheerily) mujhe shaadiyan bahut pasand hai! Kisi ke saath janam janam ke rishte me bandh jaana.. har sukh dukh share karna.. its just so romantic, hai na?
Radz:
(smiles) tum kitni cute ho!
Pragya:
(winks) woh toh hum hai hi.. kyun Aditya?
Aditya is confused, having undergone an overdose of Pragya-staring.Aditya: haan? Haan of course.
Pragya:
(in a teasing tone) Aditya? Tum thik toh ho na?
Aditya: Adi bulao na.. Aditya sounds so formal.
Pragya: hmm..interesting..Adi is cool with me.. ok done!
Adi and Pragya highfive each other as Radz looks at them, surprised.Radz: do ghante bhi nahi hue mile hue aur bachpan ke bichde hue yaar lag rahe hai.
(Copying Adi's dialogue) Aditya sounds so formal! Huh, yeh ladke bhi na seriously!
Cut to: Later that night - Mayank's homeMayank's white shirt is no longer as sparkling as it had been when he had left for the wedding. A scrutinizing eye could make out traces of strawberry icecream and dessert which Nupur had unintentionally (or was it?) spilled on him. But his smile is wider and more indulgent. His Mom, who had been looking over some files, takes a look at her son and grins. Mayank tones down his smile instantly.Mayank:
(hestiantly) kya hua? Aise kya dekh rahi ho?
Mom: dekh rahi hu ke Tide ki ad se Vanish ke ad tak ka conversion kaisa raha hoga.
Mayank:
(confused) kya?
Mom: aur nahi toh kya? Teri jagamagati shirt par se stains hatane ka kaam ab Vanish hi karega na. Say yes to pink!
Mayank inspects his shirt.Mayank: oh uski baat kar rahi ho.. wo Nupur ne galti se gira diya tha.
Mom: Nupur ne? Tum shaadi me bhi ladayi kar rahe the kya?
Mayank: nahi Ma, main nahi woh. Aap jante ho na use, puri pagal hai. Dimaag kha liya puri sham.
Mom: toh iska matlab hai ke tune enjoy nahi kiya na? Ek toh shaadiyan tujhe khaas pasand nahi, phir Nupur ki company..
Mayank:
(defensively) arey nahi Ma, maine bahut enjoy kiya. Aur Nupur ki wajah se hi toh kiya!
Mom: kya kiya?
Mayank: woh -
(Stops himself in time) Tum kya keh rahi ho mujhe kuch bhi samajh nahi aa raha.
Mom: par mujhe sab samajh aa raha hai.
Mayank rolls his eyes and begins to quickly gather all the files on the table.Mom: kya kar raha hai Mayu?
Mayank: bas, aaj raat aur kaam nahi hoga. Ab tum sone jaogi ok?
Mom: thoda sa kaam -
Mayank: thoda ya zyada, kuch bhi nahi hoga. Main fresh hoke aata hu, tab tak yeh table saaf nahi hua toh kal dobara tumhe Chinese khilaunga. Phir mat bolna ki breakfast me 'variety' nahi hoti!
He gives her a quick hug and goes into his room. His Mom smiles to herself.Mom: love you beta! Hamesha aise hi rehna.
Cut to: Next Day - Excel College CorridorDia is walking with Annie and Chacko and is in a worse mood than the night before.Chacko: cheer up na Dia babe! Aaj waise bhi tum is blue dress me kitni pretty lag rahi ho.
Dia: main roz hi pretty lagti hu, shut up Chacko!
Annie: Samrat ki wajah se apna mood kharab mat karo Dia. Tumhare avoid karne wale plan ka kya hua?
Dia: kya hua? Yeh hua ke tumhari tarah tumhara plan bhi flop ho gaya!
Annie: par plan toh tumhara tha na Dia?
Dia frowns at her.Dia: just go to hell!
She stomps off towards the canteen but trips her feet over. She is about to fall down when someone manages to hold her just in time. "Tum yaha ho toh hell bhi zyada dur toh nahi hoga na Dia?"
As irriated as Dia is already feeling, she wants to lash out at the guy for his insolence. She gets back on her feet and would have gone ahead with a resounding slap, had the grim expression on the guy's face not advised her against it.Dia: you better mind your own business!
Someone comes and taps the guy on the shoulder as Dia leaves."Kya hua Abhay?"
Abhay: kuch nahi Sid. Kuch logo ko unki jagah dikhana bahut zaruri hota hai.
Sid:
(smiles) Dia ko dekhke hi tere andar ke saare temper taps on kyun ho jaate hai?
Abhay:
(grins) aisa nahi hai.. she is just so irritating!
Cut to: Classroom - Mayank and NupurIt is Devdhar Sir's class. He is in the mood of asking questions to assess the level of sincerity and efforts the class has put in. So far, he hasn't got a very positive response and his easily flared up temper is simmering. But he is desperately trying to be patient. Devdhar: thik hai, theory nahi pata, koi baat nahi. Can you at least tell me what chapter we are discussing?
The guy truly doesn't know and is scared to meet his eyes, so he looks at the desk below.Devdhar: yeh jawaab bhi kya desk par likha hai? Exams ki tarah?
Devdhar looks at Uday who is trying to hide under the table.Devdhar: Uday Bhushan! Kya aap batayenge?
Uday:
(taken aback) Sir ab exams me wo kya karta hai, mujhe kaise pata hoga. Main acha bacha hu na.
The class laughs and Devdhar fumes.Devdhar: Mayank tum bataoge is nalayak ko ke main kya puch raha hu? Isse pehle ke main ise Principal ke paas le jaayu?
Mayank isn't feeling too well today and is a bit groggy. His head feels hammered upon and he is longing to go home and rest. But nevertheless, he stands up confidently. Nupur, who is sitting beside him, wishes him luck with a smile. He smiles back.Mayank: jee.
(Looking at Uday) Sir consumer theory ke baare me puch rahe hai, in relevance to Microeconomics.
Uday stares open mouthed. His face suddenly lights up as if with a brainwave and then goes dumb again. He shakes his head. Devdhar sighs in disgust and gestures to Mayank to go ahead with the explanation himself. He nods.Mayank: consumer theory relates preferences to consumer demand curves. It says that anything purchased will also be consumed.
Nupur gives a thumbs-up to Mayank which Devdhar notices. Devdhar: Nupur, fundamental theorem of demand kya state karta hai?
She had been busy basking in Mayank's reflected glory and is stunned to hear Sir call out her name. But she stands up as confidently as Mayank for she does know the answer.Nupur: Sir, the fundamental theorem of demand says that the rate of consumption falls as the price of the good rises.
Mayank looks at her appreciatively and she responds with an I-do-as-you-say look. Getting two consecutive correct answers puts Devdhar in a happier mood again and he plays along.Devdhar: Mayank, jo Nupur ne describe kiya, us phenomenon ko aur kya kehte hai?
Mayank: Sir use substitution effect bhi kehte hai.
Devdhar: acha,
(Looking at Nupur) phir income effect kise kehte hai?
Nupur: jab income badhne ki wajah se demand curve higher level par shift hota hai, use income effect kehte hai.
The rest of the class is shifting glances from Mayank to Nupur to Mayank again.Uday:
(to Chacko) yar Sir hum sab ko nikalke inhe hi kyun nahi padhate? Kam se kam hum daant khaane se toh bach jaayenge!
Chacko sympathizes with him as he has faced Devdhar's wrath pretty often.Chacko: sahi keh raha hai Dodo.
The question answer round is still on, with both of them answering one after another.Devdhar: ok Mayank, last question.
He takes a look at the rest of the class. Some are sleeping, some wear an awed expression and some are still looking down, afraid of their names being called out.Devdhar: waise bhi is class me aaj tum dono ke alawa aur kisi ka dhyan toh hai nahi.
Mayank's headache is now more severe and he is finding it difficult to concentrate.Devdhar: consumer analysis model kaunse parameters ke beech banta hai?
He smiles at Mayank, expecting a quick and correct answer. But shockingly, Mayank realizes that he doesn't quite know what to respond! To make things worse, he can't make head or tail of the sudden giddiness he is experiencing. At that moment, he is utterly unable to recall the exact parameters.Mayank: Sir.. do parameters hote hai..
Devdhar: haan.. kaunse?
Mayank is now all red in the face. This had never happened to him before. He had always known the answer to every question addressed to him in class. Nupur looks at Mayank and is worried for him, since she knew how seriously he took these matters. She also notices him looking unwell. Devdhar senses Mayank's difficulty and decides to ignore it as a sudden blackout could happen to even bright students like Mayank. Devdhar: koi baat nahi Mayank, Nupur tum batao.
Nupur hesitates, wondering whether or not to answer.Nupur: jee..
Devdhar: bolo?
Nupur:
(falteringly) wo.. do parameters.. leisure aur labour.
Devdhar:
(smiles) bingo!
The class applauds and Devdhar showers her with another genial smile.Devdhar: well done Nupur. Mujhe tumhari dedication dekhke aaj bahut acha laga.
(Looks at Mayank) Well done Mayank.. hamesha ki tarah.. but you know what, you now have competition.
Mayank doesn't respond except with a slight nod. As the bell rings to signify the end of the lecture, Devdhar and the rest of the students leave the class. Mayank still stands frozen at the spot, with Nupur standing close by. He can't believe he hadn't known the answer to something as trivial. Gosh, even Nupur knew the answer! If it had been someone else, they would have ignored the incident easily. But being Mayank, he couldn't see himself standing dumb, unable to answer someone back. "Maybe it's because you are ill", he thinks. "Oh, so now you need to invent false excuses for your mistakes?", he dismisses the thought instantly. Just then, Nupur puts a hand on his shoulder and captures his attention. She is saying something.Nupur: chodo na Mayank, aisa ho jaata hai kabhi kabhi. Tumhe answer toh pata hi tha na, bas dimaag me nahi aaya. Itni tension mat lo.
Mayank stares at her absentmindedly.Nupur: Mayank? Hello? Sun rahe ho main kya keh rahi hu? Tum thik toh ho na?
Worried, Nupur puts a hand on his forehead - it is blazing hot! Nupur: Mayank! Tumhe kitna tez bukhaar hai! Aur tum itni der se class me baithe ho. By God, maine aaj tak tumhare jaise lallu nahi dekha.
Mayank: bukhaar hai? Sach me?
Nupur: itne khush kya ho rahe ho? Pagla gaye ho kya? Chalo ab ghar jaldi..
(smiles) tumhara bukhaar pal bhar me bhaga dungi.. Morena me thandi pattiyan daalke main hi toh sabka bukhaar bhagati thi.
Mayank is hugely relieved to know that it was only because of high fever that he had been feeling so groggy and confused. He gives her a bear hug, much to her surprise. She quickly hugs him and then draws back.Nupur:
(in her best drama queen tone) chalo dur hato, yeh college hai.
Mayank: pata hai Nupur, main kitna darr gaya tha. Mujhe laga ki aisa kya ho gaya ke main answer nahi kar paaya. I am so happy ki yeh bas tez bukhaar ki wajah se hai.
Nupur: tum bhi na Mayank, itna mat socha karo. Aur ek baat hamesha yaad rakhna.
Mayank: kya?
Nupur: yahi, ke tum sabse ache ho aur sabse sache bhi..
(thoughtfully) aur rhyme karane ke liye - sabse bache bhi!
Mayank laughs, cheering up.Nupur: aur is ka bahut pakka sabut bhi hai mere paas.
Mayank: acha, aur wo kya?
Nupur: arey wo kya matlab? Nupur Bhushan jo tumse pyar karti hai, yeh koi choti baat hai?
She ruffles his hair and completes the "baalo ko mat chuo" dialogue for him, while he looks on innocently.Nupur: ab yeh dialogue ghar jaake aunty ko kehna. Ab chalo bhi!
As Mayank puts his notebook inside his bag, Nupur looks at him and thinks -Nupur: tu badi lucky hai Nupur, jo tujhe Mayank jaisa rajkumar mila. Jo dil ka itna sacha hai, jiski baatein itni pyari hai aur jo tujhe itna pyar karta hai. Tumhe kisi ki nazar na lage Mayank, meri bhi nahi..
