It would be very difficult to define Junoon for me..neither am I sure where Junoon ends and abuse starts..are they really a continuum...the boundaries are blurry and relative to each individual..

But if I were to be put in words, then i guess Junoon would be something like obsession to the point of madness..to go to any extent to get what one wants..
now this could be both positive and negative..for some it would be to go to any length to win back her trust and prove to her that he is worthy of her love, be ready to sacrifice anything to prove yourself whereas on other hand for some it would mean crossing any boundaries to ensure that she is close to him, willing or unwilling just like he wants..

in the case of latter, one may very well indulge in emotional abuse to attain the end ..something like 'the end justifies the means'..

IMO what was shown on Friday was emotional abuse. and it was kind of re-inforced today..
one one hand he emotionally blackmailed her to stay back by threatening to use the knife on himself preying on her feelings for him..knowing very well that she wouldn't let any harm come to him..
on other hand, today, once he got what he wanted..once he was sure that she is staying back..he kind of calmed down..the frenzy subsided, albeit temporarily..and then he wanted to shower his care on care..however forceful it may be..

I dont think this ugly side of junoon and emotional abuse are mutually exclusive..
So they may have shown RK's junoon but it was emotional abuse aswell..atleast in my book

PS: I know there is no morality when it comes to fiction, and almost anyone can be redeemed but I would feel infinitely better it they didnt go overboard often..

to me 'Junoon' is not just passion, but obsession as well. And while i do think that the creators have gone a tad to far for the drama quotient, i don't believe at all that RK has as yet done anything that can't be redeemed. He's still human at the base of it all, flawed and in no way near perfect. For me his character's still very much intact, and i do see him eventually coming back to some of his more positive shades which made Madhubala love him at the beginning of all this.

SRK's Rahul also stalked the girl and made her life a living hell. I also see it as a case of emotional/mental abuse. If there was something positive about that character's junoon, he would have not died.

An ... 🤗

Res...Will come back tomorrow
******************************
And i'm back... 😉

As rightly put by you An, Junoon does not have a static definition. Its pretty dynamic and usually contextual. Its just an umbrella to label madness, craziness, passion, obsession, possession and at times even insanity, which are positive as well as negative emotions. In matters related to achievements, passion or obsession too is healthy and a major driving force or motivation to achieve a goal.

The makers have definitely gone overboard but I still believe its not RK's Junoon that they are selling right now. Thats just how some people may be perceiving it. They are showing it as his plain INSECURITY, his inability to accept defeat, his inability to accept that Madhu can move on with her life despite of him having tried everything under the sun that he could to break her.
That's probably because he has only seen women like Dipz around, who despite of being constantly humiliated by him for whatever reasons, stayed around him all the while trying to win his affections back. And I feel somewhere it soothes his EGO. Had Sultan not come into picture or had Madhu been sitting at home crying, would RK have ever realized of his so called love for his BIWI, NO... infact never.

He is still considering her to be an object of his obsession, his achievement but I guess its about time for RK to realize that Madhu is not an achievement, nor is she his trophy as he states. She is pretty much a human with bottled up emotions and a completely crushed heart and the pain that she has gone through cannot be neglected. And at this moment he is just trying to do exactly what he shouldn't.

Bottom Line: THIS AIN'T NO JUNOON... 😉

Very interesting post :)

Indeed the definition of junoon will differ from person to person and there isn't really a right or wrong answer to it. In a broad sense, I would say that when you want something or feel for something very strongly and with great passion, that is junoon.

Some people look for a literal meaning and define it as obsession. However, I personally believe that junoon is a positive word, whereas obsession carries a lot of negativity with it.

I do object to RK's behaviour being called his "junoon." I don't consider it to be junoon at all. It is boardering on madness and the mental games that he plays with Madhu can be regarded as emotional abuse.

Like there is a very thin line between love and hate, i believe there is a thin line between Junoon and Madness too.

So, yes for me R.K's behavior can still come under junoon.
Thats my POV 😊

Thank you for your reply. According to me, there is no thin line between love and hate because both are extreme emotions and to tilt in favour of one, one needs to go a long distance from the other.

If I have read your views correctly, madness is not equal to junoon?

Can extreme obsession for someone make you so self-obsessed that you stop seeing her emotions and what she wants?

I understand the deep desire, passion, craze but I don't see how emotional blackmail, hurting the person you love, harming her, fit in junoon.

Thank you for your answer. I did not see lust yesterday. I saw it more as knowing her emotional weakness and gaining an advantage based on that.

Can madness in love lead to ignoring the other person's pain and only think about one's gain? Can junoon lead to harming the person one claims to love?

You didn't what I meanrt- yesterday's episode wasn't junoon but today was, how can he hurt, she's hurting herself and him by staying away... he knows that... he loves her and cares for her now that he has realised her importance in his life
