But if I were to be put in words, then i guess Junoon would be something like obsession to the point of madness..to go to any extent to get what one wants..
now this could be both positive and negative..for some it would be to go to any length to win back her trust and prove to her that he is worthy of her love, be ready to sacrifice anything to prove yourself whereas on other hand for some it would mean crossing any boundaries to ensure that she is close to him, willing or unwilling just like he wants..

in the case of latter, one may very well indulge in emotional abuse to attain the end ..something like 'the end justifies the means'..

IMO what was shown on Friday was emotional abuse. and it was kind of re-inforced today..
one one hand he emotionally blackmailed her to stay back by threatening to use the knife on himself preying on her feelings for him..knowing very well that she wouldn't let any harm come to him..
on other hand, today, once he got what he wanted..once he was sure that she is staying back..he kind of calmed down..the frenzy subsided, albeit temporarily..and then he wanted to shower his care on care..however forceful it may be..

I dont think this ugly side of junoon and emotional abuse are mutually exclusive..
So they may have shown RK's junoon but it was emotional abuse aswell..atleast in my book

PS: I know there is no morality when it comes to fiction, and almost anyone can be redeemed but I would feel infinitely better it they didnt go overboard often..

Thank You, Ami for your reply 🤗🤗🤗

What you have written is awesome. Bold: that junoon is not limited to just the girl/boy -- love of your life. It can be for work and your ambition etc. At times, in our zeal to achieve something, we forget the line between wrong and right and destroy as well as get destroyed.

Red: That has got me thinking. May have questions for you if I am unable to absorb it.

He's still human at the base of it all, flawed and in no way near perfect. For me his character's still very much intact, and i do see him eventually coming back to some of his more positive shades which made Madhubala love him at the beginning of all this.

Let me clarify, according to me in the fictional world, every character has a chance to redeem. He has every right to that. (For a real world person like R.K, I would have not said the same thing).

It's not about R.K only, the relationship has Madhubala too. Probably, he may redeem and she may forgive but decides to follow a different path. What does the junoon for that person make him do? Is forcing someone part of junoon?

I think junoon is passion and obsession which clearly defines how rk feels about madhu. He is passionately obsessed about madhu.

Very interesting post :)

Indeed the definition of junoon will differ from person to person and there isn't really a right or wrong answer to it. In a broad sense, I would say that when you want something or feel for something very strongly and with great passion, that is junoon.

Some people look for a literal meaning and define it as obsession. However, I personally believe that junoon is a positive word, whereas obsession carries a lot of negativity with it.

I do object to RK's behaviour being called his "junoon." I don't consider it to be junoon at all. It is boardering on madness and the mental games that he plays with Madhu can be regarded as emotional abuse.

Thank you for your reply.

Junoon is an Urdu word. May be someone with a knowledge of the language can define it in a better way. But, I do agree Junoon does have a positive ring to it. If you say, "She is his obsession" you don't instantly get a positive picture about it.

R.K's junoon is for sure making me question junoon 😊 The scenes are coming across as emotional abuse to own the girl.
