Neha Bamb
Neha Bamb, aka Maahi in Zee TV's Maayka, is currently shooting for a 10-day-honeymoon sequence. Here she was asked to wear a flimsy shirt for a particular sequence. Later, she was also asked to wear revealing nightwear and a very short skirt for other scenes.

In the sequence Vivan (Shabd) and Neha Bamb (Mahi Malhotra) are on honeymoon. Apparently, playfully, Vivan has to throw ice inside Neha's kurta. And Neha has to run into the bathroom and emerge wearing only a shirt. Well, the story goes that Neha bluntly refused to dress so. She made it amply clear she would not wear revealing clothes and the production house couldn't make her do so.

Says Neha, "When the costume designer got me the shirt I was wondering where the lower half of the attire was! I thought the designer was joking with me but eventually I got to know that I was required to shoot with just a shirt on. The white shirt was really short, just a little below the waistline. I could not imagine myself shooting like that, that too for a television show! The entire unit was present there for the honeymoon sequence. Eventually I wore a knee-length satin bathrobe. I am waiting for this honeymoon sequence to get over, I want to get back to wearing saris."

Adds Neha, "This was not all, I was required to wear a revealing night wear with a plunging neckline. I refused outright. Finally I was also asked to wear a very short skirt which again I had to refuse. Instead, I got my own knee-length dress. I did not want to be difficult for the production house but I must say it looked presentable and I was content with the alternatives I had."

She adds, "I have my limitations and I am very reasonable with my demands. If I am uncomfortable doing something on screen I will not. My father had told me that whatever I do, I should not be ashamed of watching myself on screen."

When Neha Bamb lost her nerve

Asked to repeatedly wear revealing outfits in a serial, actress Neha Bamb put her foot down and wore decent dresses she felt more comfortable in.

Stop work!

< content=08/16/2007 name=date>

A still from Kyunki...

After the Federation of Western India Cine Workers (FWICE) passed an order that no worker would work on August 15, several producers sent letters, asking to be allowed to shoot on August 15. But FWICE turned down their request. Dinesh Chaturvedi, general secretary of the FWICE said, "We have not cleared any applications, workers only get three compulsory holidays in a year. January 26, August 15 and May 1 and that also the producers want to take it away from them."

But in a raid on Independence Day, the vigilance department of the Federation of the Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) stalled the shooting of at least six production companies. While most of the film production houses like Rakesh Roshan's Filmkraft and Harry Baweja preferred to cancel the shooting of their films after permission was denied to them, some television companies violated the rules of the FWICE and continued to shoot till the shooting was stopped.

Informs Prem Singh Thakur, chairman of the vigilance department of the FWICE, "We raided and stopped the shooting of three Balaji Telefilms' serials which included Kasamh Se, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kasturi. We also stopped the shooting of Smriti Irani's Virrudh."

The vigilance department raided the sets of Maayka which was being shot at Madh Island. But the shooting of Zee TV's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa that was going on at Famous Studio could not be stopped. Says Thakur," We had sent out notices to all producers but Zee TV challenged us that we would not be able to stop the shooting. In fact, a police team was guarding the set to stop us from entering the sets. While the police team was very cooperative and told us that we could call the concerned person from the set. However, Gyan Sahay, who is now the director of the programme and also a member of FWICE, did not cooperate with us. He told us that they had to shoot an episode that had to be rushed to the channel urgently. But we have prepared a report against him and will be submitting it to the FWICE. In fact Sahay told us not to write a report, but we will not tolerate our member's non-cooperation."

Says Dinesh Chaturvedi, general secretary of FWICE, "We had held a medical camp for our members and found that most of them suffer from stress related disorders like hypertension and diabetes. We cannot afford to play with the lives of our workers."

'Because of you we have got our daughter back' -Vivan Bhatena

'The best compliments I ever received were from my fiancee's parents, who told me that I had made a difference in their life'-says Vivan Bhatena in a heart to heart with RJ Minnie on IF Radio.

E-mail E-mail Comments 56 Comments

The debonair and drop dead gorgeous Vivan Bhatena is riding on the crest of a popularity wave, after his terrific portrayal of Shabd in in the popular Zee daily 'Maayka'. Millions of girls swoon at the mere mention of his name. However, fame or stardom has not made any difference to the attitude of this down to earth and humble actor, who is not only a practical person, but he is also a spiritual soul in his thinking.

He recently was on a One on One with Minnie on IF Radio. Here are excerpts of the interview:

What is the best compliment u have ever got?
By: Vandu4ever

The best compliments I have got is from my girlfriend, her parents actually. She had gone through a phase when she was unable to communicate with her parents. When I entered her life and we started dating, somehow because of me or because of how I am,she got back talking to her parents, and in fact she got closer to them. So the best compliment was when her parents told me that because of you we have got our daughter back, she is much nicer of a person and she is communicating with us. I think if you can affect somebody's life like that for the better, I think it's a rare compliment.

Quite a few have asked if you are seeing someone…..and you just now mentioned her. So please share something about her with us.

Her name is Nikhila Palat, and she is not just my girlfriend, but also my fianc.

I proposed to her on 22nd of July which was also her birthday. We were in Bangkok.

What else can I say about her......She is a wonderful person and a very strong individual, a very motivated individual and she motivates me and has helped me grow in lots of ways and has exposed me to a lot of nuances in life which I wasn't exposed to.
This was just an excerpt. To catch what this handsome actor has to share about his college days, about his first video "Maine Payal hai Chankai" or his movie stint with Chak De India or meeting the King Khan, with his fans, please tune into his interview, coming soon, only on IF Radio.

Even before her marriage, Neha Bamb has started receiving dream gifts. To begin with, it's a flat from pa-in-law

The building in which Neha has received a flat
Neha Bamb aka Maahi Malhotra of Maayka, who is getting married to Rishi Zaveri, is one lucky bahu. Though her marriage to the scion of a prominent business family is scheduled for December, she has already received a dream wedding gift from her father-in-law. Neha's father-in-law has gifted a flat to the couple.

Neha zeroed in on a flat on the 5th floor, on 12TH road in Chembur, after a rigorous hunt. Interestingly, this was also the first time that the couple's choice matched. Says Neha, "Rishi and I are poles apart. We must have checked out at least a hundred flats before selecting our dream house that both of us liked. When we entered the house it reflected positive energy. I am very excited about it," she says.

But, buying the house was not hassle-free for the couple. This house was already promised to another customer. But Neha was hell bent on having it. That's when Neha's father stepped in. "I have always been spoilt by choice, more because of my father. So, when I realised that the house was already given to somebody else, I just put my foot down and asked my father that I wanted only that particular flat. Luckily, my father knew the builder very well, and he made sure that we get the deal. Although, it's a gift from Rishi's father, my father really helped finally acquire it," she adds.

Neha is currently staying at Ghatkopar (East) and Rishi is staying at Hiranandani. So, the new home had to be equidistant. "We chose the place as we could be close to our in-law's place," Neha says.

Though Neha does not believe in vastu shastra or feng shui, she is going by her mother's instructions as far as the interiors are concerned. "I am not an avid follower of those things. But, my mother has given me some tips which I am going to follow, like, no mirror opposite the bed," she adds.

The actress does not like too much clutter and loves wide spaces. She also has plans about how she will do it up. She says, "The house has a cute balcony. I want the white floorings with a contrasting black couch. Since both of are fond of watching movies, I want to have a big plasma TV. I also want a small dining table to save the space," Neha says.

Neha's wedding on December 6 in Mumbai will be typically Marwari affair. She says, "It will be a typical Marwari wedding and preparations have started in full swing. Everybody is mighty enthusiastic about it," she adds.

The Reverse Migration
TV Actors Desert Serials For Films

Jigar Shah, Bollywood News Service

Bollywood stars have for long tried their luck on TV; now waves of TV celebrities are forsaking TV to prove their mantle in films – never mind what happened to Amar Upadhyaya. The current forerunners are Rohit Roy ('Sarkar', 'Virasat'), Vivaan Bhatena ('Kumkum' 'Maayka') and Arjun Punj ('Sanjeevani' 'Woh Rehne Wali')

Arjun: " I think after Shah Rukh Khan, it's going to be ME!"

Which films are you doing presently?

Rohit : In Sanjay Gupta's Alibaug, I play a doctor. I also have on hand Rituparno Ghosh's Mittal vs Mittal in which I play an abusive husband.

Vivaan : I'm still in talks; as of now nothing has materialized.

Arjun : I'm doing Kumar Mangat's 123 -- only a few days of shooting are left. I'm considering some other films as well.

Was performing in movies a logical extension of your TV acting skills ?

Rohit : Yeah. Being an actor you want to explore many fields. For me, moving from theatre to TV to movies has been an ideal extension. Theatre is more real but it's not for me right now; I have found my footing in TV but my eyes are now set on the movies.

Vivaan : Movies are the next step for me – I have graduated from modelling to theatre to TV and now to movies. I feel that I'm ready for the big screen. I've been preparing for a long time; and I think the time has come now.

Arjun : Who doesn't want to do movies? There is more creative satisfaction in movies.

Are you going to shuffle between movies and TV or be bold and stick to movies exclusively?

Rohit : I made my decisions way back in February this year -- even before my film Shootout At Lokhandwala was released and declared a success. I had decided then itself that I would be concentrating only on movies. It's not that I'm quitting TV … I am just moving on.

Vivaan : Not really. Yes, like everyone, I too am scared of what will happen if my movies don't work. But I feel that is everyone does what they are destined to do.

Arjun : No. It's only movies for me now.

What drew you to the movies? Was it the lure of better money or the need to escape TV's gruelling work schedules?

Rohit : TV's working schedules was the main reason for the shift. I'm the only actor who does only one shift a day; and I am thankful to my producers like Manish Goswami and Ravi Chopra who let me do that. Without this, I couldn't have done many of the things that I was able to.

Vivaan : As a matter of fact, TV has more money than films. I'm no Shah Rukh Khan that they will pay me in crores. Money was not the reason for the shift – it's more due to my passion for cinema.

Arjun : Money and everything else comes later – whether it is in TV or films, if you do good work, money will follow.

So would you say that no matter how big TV may have become of late, films are bigger?

Rohit : The only difference between movies and TV is that you are glorified a lot in the movies. A film actor is more inaccessible than a TV actor. On TV, there is a lot of proximity. TV is On/Off entertainment – when your show is on air, you can be the biggest star but you go down when it goes off air. In the movies, however, even one good role is remembered for years to come.

Vivaan : There are no two ways about it -- the reach of cinema is huge.

Arjun : Films are bigger and better. I feel there is nothing much happening on TV.

Are you scared of being typecast in movies to fit your TV image ?

Rohit : No. Because of my lover boy image on TV people were amazed to see me portray a gangster in Shootout .

Vivaan : I have the image of a loving husband in 'Maayka' and that of a good son in 'Kumkum'. As long as I am benefiting from being typecast, I don't mind. What I want to ensure is that I don't get sidelined -- the role should be prominent.

Arjun : Not really. I was seen in a negative role in 'Sanjeevani' but in 'Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki'I was seen as a loving, understanding husband. So it doesn't really matter.

If you fail on the big screen do you have a back-up plan?

Rohit : I have begun a production company by the name of Magicworks. We will be concentrating on both movies and TV. It's like paying back what you have got from the industry

Vivaan : I had an event company and we were doing well. But an event company requires your attention 24x7 and I don't have that kind of time.

Arjun : It's acting and only acting for me.

Finally, no TV actor has made it big in the movies except Shah Rukh Khan. Does that scare you?

Rohit : Not at all. I believe I'm as unique as Shah Rukh Khan. Vivaan : I'm a firm believer in destiny I don't compare myself to anyone, if people do so, fine. I do my best and leave the rest to God.

Arjun : I think after Shah Rukh Khan, it's going to be ME!

How it feels… not being the partner in crime

On Tuesday in Kaahani Ghar Ghar Ki, there was a rape scene between Maithili (Shalini Chandran) and her husband Pranay (Jeetu Malkani).

This was the third rape scene in the show and illustrates that these days even television is not too far behind films when it comes to showing rapes or intimate scenes. But how do their real life partners react when they see their loved ones in such tricky situations?

Mahesh, who is Shalini's fianc, feels it is just a part of the job. "As an audience I do feel a little bad but during this particular scene I was present on the sets. They shot it very aesthetically. In fact, at the end of it, I had tears in my eyes. Shalini, who was too tired, asked me if I liked it and I replied in the affirmative."

Kavita Kaushik, who is seeing Karan Grover, doesn't think highly of such scenes. She says, "I can understand that sometime you have to do such scenes and I have also done some but problems arise when you have do it with actors whom you don't get along well with. I watch every episode of Karan's show (Meri Awaaz..) and tell him straightforwardly that I did not like this or that."

She adds, "I never feel insecure while watching intimate scenes because I have a superiority complex and always think that the guy who is with me should consider himself lucky to have girl like me in his life. If he is going around with some other girl then he is stupid."

Nikhila Palat, who is Vivan's fiance, also doesn't mind her partner doing such scenes. "I have known Vivan (Maayka) for the last 4 years. He gives me priority over his work, so why should I feel insecure by just looking at one scene? Apart from that my sister and my brother-in-law are also from this industry, so they understand everything. After marriage I know that every day after he finishes work he will come to me only. He will not cheat on me because he knows that then he will lose me."

Amita Gupta (Reshmii Ghosh's boyfriend) prefers to praise Reshmii's acting talent. "I have seen Reshmii's scene in Kyunki. It is very difficult to get the right expressions in front of camera but she did it very well. If the scene is shot properly them why should I have any problem?"

Keerti Kelkar, wife of Sharad Kelkar, says that she in fact makes it a point to visit the Saat Phere sets when he has to shoot such scenes just to boost his morale.

"Not only Sharad, I too have done many such scenes and even he is very supportive. We both know that it's a part of part of our job. I know how much he loves me and so never feel bad while watching his scenes. I have been in this industry for 7 years so I know that when the director says action you automatically start and when he says cut you immediately switch off."

Keerti jokingly adds, "I only feel jealous of Angelina Jolie because Sharad is a big fan of hers."
