Chapter 13 : The First Date. This is a small chapter just because i promised one soon 😉

Before going to bed,Ashutosh was thinking how to really thank all the interns who went with him for the visit. He wanted to do something as they had really worked hard and it was a success, so bringing them out for lunch or dinner would be a good idea he thought. He didn't want only the lunch or dinner but wanted to do something that would really make them happy, when suddenly he got the idea of what to do.So, he called up Dr Priyanka,Jhoty and Dr Rahul. He told them about his plan of bringing them out tomorrow and he gave them the time and place to meet him.They all accepted the offer happily. He now called up Nidhi and was praying that she would really accept.

Ashutosh: " Hello, Dr Nidhi I hope im not disturbing you again?"

Nidhi: " It's ok Sir is there any problem?"

Ashutosh: " Should there be any problem, Dr Nidhi?"

Nidhi felt so ashame for what she just said but she managed to sound normal " I don't know its just that you just left and now you are calling so'."

Ashutosh: "So, you mean that I shouldn't habe called right?"

Nidhi: " No Sir,it's not what I meant to say, anyway you wont understand, just tell me why you are calling?"

Ashutosh: " What do you mean by saying I won't understand, you think I'm that dumb?"

Nidhi: " I never said this, why do you always argue with me Sir and always come to odd conclusions"

Ashutosh: " You such a difficult person Dr Nidhi, but interesting anyway" he knew this would really make her fused now and he was already chuckling.

Nidhi: " what do you mean by difficult, oh sir please I don't want to argue with you so please tell me why you called?"

Ashutosh: " Ok,I was thinking that I should thank you all who accompanied me to the medical visit, so I was thinking that tomorrow I will bring you all out for something, what do you think?"

Nidhi: " I don't know Sir, have you talked to the others?"

Ashutosh: " Yeah, just call them and they all accepted so what about you?"

Nidhi: "You mean I am the last person you called right?"

Ashutosh: "Dr Nidhi, please don't make a fuss about this as I knew you would ask me if the others have accepted right? So, that's why I confirmed with them first and then called you, I don't think you'll agree to go alone with me right?" Ashutosh knew he said something that he shouldn't but still he wanted to know what would be her answer.

Nidhi: "Hmmm'' have to think about it sir and all depends if I feel better with my foot tomorrow and I have to ask Baba also, so I'll call you tomorrow,is it ok?

Ashutosh felt quite disappointed, he thought that like the others she would just accept but with this girl things are going to be quite difficult. " Ok fine Dr Nidhi, but please don't call me after 9 a.m as I have to plan, so if it's not too much asking you by 8 o'clock please let me know".With a pouted face she positively answered and promised she will try to call at 8.00 and let him know.

The next morning Nidhi woke up very early, her foot was feeling better and there was no swelling, atleast one thing was good , she thought, now she has to ask Baba permission to go.Baba was having breakfast when Nidhi came. After taking Baba and Dadi Bua's blessing she sat for breakfast also. They all asked her how come she was already up so early.She managed to make them believe that she went to sleep early so obviously she woke up early.Nidhi told Baba about Dr Ashutosh's invitation and asked if she could go. Dadi Bua gave a weird look at C.V and Nidhi and said that for her, she doesn't think that Nidhi should go, first of all , she still recovering from her wound and secondly she thought since when shout your senior take you out to thank you, he could thank her by giving her a binus in her salary instead. Both Nidhi and C.V looked impassively at her and she said that there is no point of discussing about the matter anymore, she just cannot let a young girl accompany an elderly man like Dr Ashutosh and what people will think.

Nidhi: " Dadi Bua, please I'm not going on a date with him, I'll not be alone all the othet interns will go also so, relax and people don't have the right to say anything, since I'm not doing anything wrong right Baba?

C.V: "Nidhi, I think your Dadi Bua is right and anyway your foot is still not good completely, so better you relax today as tomorrow you will have to go work right?"

Nidhi knew she couldn't argue anymore with her BB and was quite disappointed also and this could be clearly seen on her pouted face.It was already 8.00 and she had to call Dr Ashutosh to let him know.She reluctantly took her phone and dialed Dr Ashutosh's number.

Ashutosh was so pleased to receive Nidhi's call early morning " Good-morning Dr Nidhi, so how are you , it seems that you woke up early today right?"

Nidhi: " What good-morning, what's there so good about this morning today?"

Ashutosh: " Relax, Dr Nidhi, what's the matter why are you so angry early morning?"

Nidhi: " Aur nahin to kya, I'm just calling you to tell you that I won't be able to come today, as I didn't get the permission from BB and Dadi Bua.If it was only BB he would have let me but this DB Grrr''."

Ashutosh was quite disappointed by hearing this but he couldn't show her what he is feeling quite now, " Don't worry Dr Nidhi, they must have a valid reason for their refusal,is there anything I can do to convince them"

Nidhi: " Huh Dr Ashutosh, if Nidhi can't convince them so nobody would be able to do"

Ashutosh: " Wow itni confidence apne aap par, very nice I like it, but at least will you let me try?"

Nidhi: " It would be of no use Sir, I know them very well, so do enjoy with the others"

Ashutosh: " Let's make deal Dr Nidhi, let me try and if I succeeded you'll have to pay me, deal?"

Nidhi : " Hahahah, no way Dr Ashutosh, you will lose"

Ashutosh: " But let me try at least deal?"

Nidhi: " Ok, but what do you mean by pay? How much you want?"

Ashutosh: " Ok I'll let you decide for that also, how much can you pay me for that"

Nidhi: " Dr Ashutosh, actually I never gamble so it's quite difficult for me to say"

Ashutosh: " Don't worry Doc, its not gambling, oki'll make it like this I'll ask you something that you don't have to use money to get it for me? Is it fine now?"

Nidhi: " Wow that confusing now, what can that be?"

Ashutosh: "It can be anything Dr Nidhi, like you baking me a cake,or making me a cup of tea everyday in the hospital, or giving me a''"

Nidhi: " Giving you what?"

Ashutosh: " Come on Dr Nidhi, I'll let it be a surprise now let me try to figure out how to convince your Baba ok, bye"

Nidhi was feeling really bad that they didn't want to let her go, but she can't go against her Baba's decision also. She was just hoping that Dr Ashutosh could come out with something positive. She retrieved a book from her room and decided to go read out. Ashutosh on his side didn't want to give up about the idea that Nidhi wouldn't be able to come. He decided that he will meet C.V and asked him the permission personally, just give it worth a try he thought. Ashutosh made HK prepared a bag with some sandwiches and drinks and left for C.V's house. Suddenly, he got a call from Rahul, he apologized for not being able to come as he received the visit of his uncle from Delhi. Reaching C.V house, he was welcomed by CS who made him sit and went to call for C.V.

C.V: " Dr Ashutosh, what a pleasant surprise again, any problem?"

Ashutosh felt quite awkward himself for his visit and was thinking how he should start it. " No Sir, nothing serious it's just that I organized an outing with all my interns who accompanied me to the medical trip so I came personally to ask you permission for Nidhi?" That's it, he said it , he thought, C.V looked at him quite confused also thinking that he only came here to ask him that, strange!!!!! , but he really appreciated that he came personally to ask him. C.V knew he could trust this man,that his daughter would be safe with him,after much thought and talk, he finally accepted and the fact that DB was at the temple facilitated his decision also. Ashutosh was so happy , he just wanted to hug C.V but he controlled himself.

C.V: " Nidhi is in the garden, I think you should go and tell her yourself "

Ashutosh warmly thanked C.V and promised he would take care and would surely be back early.Ashutosh made her way to the garden and saw Nidhi reading her book. Ashutosh was overwhelmed when he saw this beautiful creature infront of him, sitting on a chair, with folded feet up and wearing a short and a blouse. He approached her and sat on the chair beside her." Hi Doc" Nidhi couldn't believe her ears , was he really here but how come she didn't hear him coming. " Sir, you, but what are you doing here, you should be going out with the others right? He leaned back in the chair, tossing his glasses on the table. He glanced at her bare legs and she blushed, squirming in the chair and mumbling something that Ashutosh couldn't even hear a word, but he knew she was shocked that he saw her in this way and was cursing him maybe, but all this amused him. His eyes mocked her. " You must be getting bored around here. You actually sought out some company-have you anything earth-shattering to tell me Dr Nidhi as I can see you mumbling?" Nidhi blushed hardly again, did he hear what she said , as she was really cursing herself to wear this short today and now he was here in front of her and she had to react normal even it was difficult to do so.She smiles.Why crush his ego? "No, I'm not bored and I don't have anything special to say." Ashutosh knew she was feeling uncomfortable, he leaned forward in his chair, sobering. " How about going to explore the woods Dr Nidhi? It happens that you like adventuring in the wild right?"" Is your ankle up to a two-step?". She glanced back at him sharply and caught her breath.It seems that we was actually asking her out'. Like on a real date? Why?. He leaned back in his chair again and stretched his legs out, his piercing gaze sorting through the secrets of her mind. Finally he smiled. " All right, why don't you protect those fantastic legs with some jeans and I'll take you to explore the woods, I've already asked your Baba permission." Nidhi straightened in her chair, blushing. Nidhi " Really how did you do it?"

"That's a secret Dr Nidhi, you challenged me right and we made a deal remember so now, be ready to give me what I will ask"Nidhi blushed at this remark and she was sure that he will come with an absurd idea for the deal. "Give me a few minutes Sir, I'll be right back". At his affirmative nod, she hurried to her room and changes into jeans and sneakers before Baba could change his mind again. She took permission to leave with Baba and promised to be back home early. When she met him outside, he was attaching a pillow to the ATV with bunji cords. He glanced up at her frowning face and chuckled. "I borrowed it with my friend, as I don't want to plaster you girls with mud."I hoped we could also go for a walk in the wood"

"I know, but humour me. I'll take you for a ride through more country in sa day than you could hope to walk in a week." He threw a leg over the ATV and Settled himself on the seat with a grin. " Hop on. The day isn't getting any longer and we have to go get the others, by the way Rahul is not coming he got the surprise visit of his uncle". Nidhi looked at him with a sheepish smile and said " This means you going to be alone with three girls go, I pity you". Ashutosh wouldn't let her win over him like this " No Dr Nidhi, I think I should take it as a compliment I'll be alone with three ladies bodyguarding me" he chuckled. They were on their way when Dr Priyanka called to say that she and Dr Jhoti won't be able to come as they finally got a last minute appointment with the hair dresser.Ashutosh was quite happy to hear this, as he would be able to be with Nidhi alone, but how would she take this, he hoped that she won't ask him to bring her back home. Announcing her the bad news Nidhi was quite rejoiced but tried not to show it on her face. Nidhi " O that's a bad news , what should we do now, would you cancel your plan?" she asked regretfully. Ashutosh " Not if you are not afraid of going out in the woods alone with me?" he naughtily told her. Nidhi " Why should I be afraid as far as I know you don't eat people right, so I'm safe". He glanced around at her and winked " Brave girl, that's better" he said with a twinkle in his eye. She wrinkled her nose at him. "Lead the way, Sir" she said dryly.He chuckled and started the engine. They drove about 7 km out of Luknow when they reached the safari spot. It was a reserved park which was kept wild for those who really like to explore the nature by themselves without a any guide.It was full with visitors and tourists , as if all nature loving people were all grouped here. After paying the entry ticket they made their way inside.Ashutosh followed the main road for a while before dipping off onto a well used trail. He worked the ATV down a steep rocky slope and through overhanging bush that kept Nidhi busy dodging limbs and combing cobwebs from her hair under the amusing gaze of Ashutosh. An armadillo stared at them from a rocky ledge as they passed, and a doe and her fawn darted across the trail not more than a hundred yards ahead, disappearing into the bush.As they came out on an open trail, Nidhi heard the gurgling water before the creek came into view. He stopped the ATV and turn off the engine. " They call this spot the writing on the rock. I think you might find it interesting" he told her.He led her to a large mossy rock that was teched with name and dates.Some of the letters in the name were backward, but the date was clearly 1872.Nidhi knelt and touched the letters. She glanced up at Ashutosh, who was lounging against a tree watching her. He moved away from the tree. " Come on,I'll show you something that will take your breath away." They climbed back on the ATV and crossed the creek.After a while they were ridding around the side of a steep hill through tall grass. A deer watched them from the trees.Nidhi tapped Ashutosh's shoulder and pointed at it. He nodded and returned his attention to the steep hill.After a long time they came into a clearing on the edge of the mountain.Nidhi gasped at the view.He stopped the ATV again and thet got off,both gazing in rapt silence.Range after range of mountains begain with a mixture of sharp green that gradually faded until the last range was wrapped in the haze of distance.It could have been a tropical rain forest, so densely covered with trees and without a trace of human inhabitants."It's fascinating!" she breathed." Do you suppose this is what it looked like when the first settlers found it?" He was studying the mountain ranges intently " Probably, you know Dr Nidhi a body could get lost out here and never be found". " Are you scaring me Sir?" Ashutosh gave her a sweet smile and said " No Dr Nidhi, absolutely not put your suspicion back in a corner of your mind, don't ruin this magnificiant day". " So Dr Nidhi you agree with me that using the ATV you can cover more territory than walking. You'd see less wildlife if you were walking-making more frightening noises to the animals" Nidhi nodded with a smile. Ashutosh studied her face with amused eyes." Now tell me the truth Doc, aren't you enjoying the ride?"

She laughed softly. "Yes, im enjoying it, so much thank you Sir, how far do you think we've travelled?" He shrugged. "As the crow flies,about seven miles, but as the old saying goes, a crow can't fly through the rock.By the time you count the hills,hollows and turns,it's closer to ten.He laced his fingers behind his neck and tretched in a way that made his upper torso ripple with muscular activity.She turned away,embarrassed by the rush of excitement the action triggered.Nidhi was feeling quite tired with the ride as she was not used to that kind of ride, she started feeling pain over her body.She rubbed her lumbar area, vaguely aware of the pain that riding was causing. Seeing her doing that Ashutosh knew that the ride was painful for her.He approached her and said " May I?" Before she could answer his hands were on her waist,his thumbs nimbly working the tense muscles.His touch was like electric shock,forcing her heart to pound.His hands worked up her back moving gradually as he massaged every inch of the muscles on either side of her spine.It was both relaxing and exciting,she couldn't stop him from doing so.Finally his big hands left her waist and moved to her shoulders,working out the stiffness in them,and then on the back of her neck.When his fingers stopped their work,they lingered."Better?" he asked,his voice was gentle and warm. " Yes.Where did you learn to do that?" She didn't care:the purpose of the question was to get her mind on something besides his warm hands resting on her shoulders.Ashutosh bend his mouth to her ears and whispers " Dr Nidhi, I have something to confess" She could feel her heart pounding so hard and hesitantly asked " What Sir?" Ashutosh couldn't hold it anymore,it was now or never he thought so better be now than never and if ever she might want to slap her so better be in the jungle among the animals than being infront of people.But how would she react, he self thought?That doesn't matter anymore for him he has to tell her. " Dr Nidhi Verma, I think I'm in love with you!" He closed his eyes and were ready to receive the slap from her.Nidhi couldn't believe he finally said it, she who was wandering bout his feelings for her, was now sure that yes there was something between them and was happy that it was reciprocal.She had no voice or words to say, tears were falling down her cheeks. "Are you sure sir?" Ashutosh wanted to stangle her right now , he been trying to tell her since long and even now she is making fun of him but he knew how to make her stop. "Yes Dr Nidhi I'm pretty sure about it and for god sake stop this childish question". "So If this is true you are in love with a child? And you can be severely punished by law".Ashutosh chuckle was soft and he knew how to stop her from talking nonsense anymore. He pulled her gently against him.His warm breath on her neck sent her heart in a flurry of wild beats.He kissed her neck lightly,his arms holding her in a lose embrace.He knew all the right buttons to push.She stepped away from him,but he grabbed one arm,turning her around to face him. "Nidhi,"his voice was barely more than a whisper as he pulled her into his arms.She gazed up into eyes that were full of tenderness.Not here-Not now.Her hands protested on his broad chest as he bent his head to claim her lips. " Sir, No please stop" Ashutosh continued to hold her firmly " Does that mean you don't have the same feeling for me Nidhi? I need to know please right now". He was pleading her to accept him, and this Nidhi could feel it and she felt so embarrassed that she made him plead like that. "I do like you a lot Sir, but I don't really know if its love?" Ashutosh couldn't help himself from chuckling and thought that this girl is really mad and will turn him crazy too. " Ok Nidhi, I'll try something and after that you'll probably know if it's love or lust dear?" Ashutosh bent his head again searching for her lips.In spite of her resolve,her lips responded to his silent quest.When he lifted his head, she pushed him away." So Dr Nidhi,did you find the answer of your question?" Nidhi didn't want to answer him right now but for sure she knew that she loved him too but was feeling a kind of pleasure in torturing him more to get the answer. " I thought we came out here to look at the wildlife." Her heart was racing and her breath came quickly.They had to get away from here-back where there are other people.

"Are you afraid of me, Nidhi? Can I call you so if you don't mind as it looks quite weird calling you Dr Nidhi or Dr Verma every time?" His voice was soft and husky.

"Yes, you can call me Nidhi and No I'm not afraid of you.Actually, she was more afraid of her own response at the moment. "I just don't think it's a good idea for us to be out here alone'. I mean, not doing this." Ashutosh chuckled softly. "So you are actually afraid then?" he naughtily told her " Do you think I can actually do something wrong to you Nidhi, be honest?" Nidhi could feel all the compassion in his voices she could only nodded a no and looked away from him. Ashutosh didn't want to push her more into that relation and thought that if something should happen between them it would come but he will not force her. " we'll go, then,and I promise to keep my hands to myself". As he had once said, he was a man of his word and he made no more advances.The trip back was every bit as much as exciting,both acting normally and they were happy. " Nidhi, aren't you feeling hungry? I'm dying of hunger would you please open the basket and see what HK had packed. He slowed down the ATV little for her to be able to remove the sandwitch from the bag and gave him one. Because of the rocky and sleepy trail Ashutosh was unable to eat properly and each and evry bit he was taking would make the bread fall down. Without hesitation, Nidhi took the sandwich from him and started to feed him,both were feeling shy but were really enjoying it.Today,Nidhi had seen a new side of him.He could be tender and thoughtful,as well as charming.A man of so many moods. As Ashutosh promised CV that he won't be late , he kept on to his words and drive back home.Both of them were surprised to see a blue truck parked in the yard when they returned. Ashutosh looked down at her as he helped her from the ATV.

"Another suitor?"

"I wish you'd stop acting like I had a thousand guys on the string.it's insulting." He frowned. "I wasn't suggesting anything like that." She said nothing,but when they entered the kitchen to find Rohan sitting at the table,his expression was wary. "Rohan,Hi what a pleasant surprise,where have you been ,I came back and you weren't home?" Nidhi was facing Rohan,but kept Ashutosh in view.He tensed and glared at her.Rohan glanced at Ashutosh uncertainly and then shifted his attention back to her. " Hi Nidhiji,how are you I just came back from a meeting in Delhi" Nidhi then realized that sse didn't make the formal presentations between the two men." Oh I forgot Rohan I think you know Dr Ashutosh my senior" Both men shaked hand.Ashutosh glanced nervously at Rohan who was still glaring at Nidhi. " I hope I'm not intruding" asked Rohan.Nidhi finally met Ashutosh's accusing gaze. " Not as far as I'm concerned," She spoke to Rohan without taking her eyes off Ashutosh.His smoldering gaze finally shifted to Rohan." No, I guess not after all I think I'm the intruder here right, as you guys stayed here if I'm not wrong" His tone had changed to a provoked one and Nidhi could feel it and that amused her so much to see him like this. Ashutosh greeted them both and aksed Nidhi to convey his greeting to CV who was actually resting. Nidhi accompanied Dr Ashutosh outside and thanked him for this marvelous day. Before leaving Ashutosh bent again till Nidhi's ear and whispered " Nidhi,I'm still waiting for my answer?". Nidhi knew she would have no means to escape him from now.

" Good Bye Sir and thank you again" and she turned away from him and rushed inside
