@Sam, Sona mirroring Ishwari quote from you is funny.
Sona is giving rights to a 6 year old (I don't think she is the kind to clutch onto Soha and will allow her to bond with Dev)
Ishwari was sckeptical of Dev bonding to a very nice human being Sona coz it would affect her goddess image. Sona is skeptical of Soha bonding with Dev but does not show. She is not even doing any brainwashing. I am dead sure she will give leeway to Soha to bond with Dev and come back.
I do not see much validity in calling them both single mothers and hence clutching to their children.. Sona is poles apart from Ishwari.
First of all, I want to clarify that I don't see Ishwari as a villain and Sona as a heroine, so if I say that there are parallels between the two, it is certainly not a negative thing. Secondly, you are entitled to your opinion, but I disagree, and I will try to explain why.
Ishwari never badmouthed Sona in front of Dev, in fact she always talked about what a nice, talented, well-brought up girl Sona was. When she spoke to him, she told Dev to find happiness for himself, assured him that her happiness lay in his happiness, and promised her full support. If she ever showed her displeasure with his choices, it was only through her actions, which Dev was left to interpret. The most literal of these, was, of course, when she overdosed on sleeping pills, trying to make peace with Dev's decision and his inability to share it with her.
In my opinion, where a 6-year-old child is concerned, just introducing such a huge choice and leaving it entirely on their shoulders is inadequate support. There has to be more initiative from the parent to assure the kid that it's okay for them to pursue what they want, and in connecting the kid with the other parent who is a stranger to them. Here I feel Sona heavily overdetermined Soha's choice in the matter by not providing that support, just like Ishwari never explicitly opposed Dev's choice of Sona, but managed to convey her unhappiness nonetheless.
That is where Ishwari's manipulation is at its most sophisticated. She never says anything bad about Sona, but merely presents something that she wants that happens to be against the interests of Dev and Sona's relationship. Dev bent backwards to give her what she asked for, and did a little more damage to his marriage each time. Even now, she may say nasty things about Sona to Mamaji, but never to Dev. She merely notes that Sona must have moved on because she is so strong and independent. This makes her manipulation almost impossible to detect.
I saw the same pattern with Sona, in the way she dealt with talking to Soha about Dev. Bijoy only added to the overdetermination when he lost his cool and made it very clear to Soha that the people she loved most wouldn't be happy with whatever decision she made. Soha picked up on that and did what would make the adults she knows and depends on happiest, but it's clear her dad is on her mind.
But I think Sona will break the cycle when she ultimately diverges from Ishwari's path. Ishwari let her insecurities overcome her, but I hope Sona will be able to face hers head on and deal with them in a critical and mature way.
