Just gonna make peace with the fact that it is what it is.
I'll probably keep watching just for Shaheer and Erica, they both were so good yesterday. The makers are allergic to passion. They only further proved that fact yesterday. The hug was necessary, but again, it was avoided.
P.S : I just randomly watched a brief scene of KYY to gauge the tone of the show and check out the leads, looks quite interesting. The leads are cute. And the first scene I saw contained more passion than they let Devakshi potray throughout their relationship. And Dev and Sonakshi are supposed to be in a mature adult relationship🥱
Starting with Season 1 now😊

which scene was this? The best part is the show is over so you dont need to go through the agony of waiting for the next episode:)

The leads are beyond cute. Just keep watching, they will grow on you. Casting is perfect. Do not forget to watch the entire episodes not just the leads. For atleast 150 + episodes whoel episodes had value.

I don't think dey show any redemption for d ML considering Durjoy d writer..They try to justify like dey did in yday epi..Seriously sona?? U understand him?? If u really know him den u definitely won't ever want to b with a man like him..Even if he apologizes nd wants u in his life, as a women or as a human u should have certain fears,insecurities..If she is real then she should have asked her place in his life..whr she stands in his prioritiy list?
@TM - abt kyy, They r LOVE😳 Watching des shows still make me proud of dat show which I probably lived..total s1 265 epis..245 r blissful..coz Richa mam was there..even after that no story was there but dey never ruined d couple..The show which taught me d Definition of LOVE...People call it's a teenage couple story..but dos 18, 19yrs kids are far matured than des shows which boast them as matured show nd a matured couple..The ML was one of d best written on indian television..nd FL was The Best written FL ever..They r kids, makes mistakes, learns from them, maturely handle them nd Grew together as a Couple.

The one where the ML was drunk and was trying to look for the FL's earings and she was trying to stop him as she sees someone coming in the room. Then she pulls him behind a wall and they share an intimate moment. Another one I watched was a pool scene where he's teaching her to swim. That was cute as well. Now I'm starting from the first episode properly😃
Thanks for the recommendation🤗

Aptly summarized. Daily soap format apparently does not give them time for nuanced storytelling (Kaisi Yeh Yaariaan was an exception actually for many many episodes).

@ BOLD - cannot agree more.

Redemption is understanding the pain he caused her . It is ensuring that he earns her trust. It is standing up for her, prioritizing her and no amount of sweet words can do that.

This time Dev has to act on it. He has to prove that he is a man of action.

Cannot agree more.

In love, within a family you aren't hung up on a word. If my son made a mistake and came crying to me, I wont wait for him to say Sorry I just would understand he is... so he is here.

When Dev told her she was his life, how can he remove her from his? It wasn't a way of saying , I didn't . It was a way of acknowledging how did I even think I could??

That acknowledgement made Sona forgive him...

Again I will not disagree. My discomfort came from the overly subtle approach to the above aspect when in the same show there is a heavy handed approach between mother - son ( mom sorry i made you wait 1 hour, I am a lousy son), not to mention the non subtle manner of break up.

A scene that I would have liked to see, I am asked to infer and read the subtext whereas the above scenes which are putting me off and many others are shoved down my throat. I am unable to fathom why

Saying Sorry is not what causes redemption. A man beats his wife and says sorry wouldn't redeem him. He has to stop doing it... Change his attitude. Redemption is a process and it will come. With Character growth it will come.

Said this yesterday's scene was perfect. No complaints. The day Dev asks Sona to come back in his life, he will have to earn her trust back.. that will start the process.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I do not judge anyone for liking what moves them because there is no logic/explanation needed to be moved by and to like something. It is a matter of personal taste.😊

Hey KYY lover do you forget how Manik left Nandini for his buddy Dhruv? There's no reason to butcher Devakshi if you really believe in a firefly story like MaNan😊

🤗 My friend - thank you for this delightful reply!!

Watched the episode finally and a few good points first -

Shaheer & Erica (especially Shaheer, I found) are fantastic actors, that's a given. Both have done movies before and have a certain maturity but Shaheer's eyes speak. He deserves to be in Bollywood. Erica carries herself really well. It is a treat to watch this on Indian TV and thankfully the camera doesn't zoom 3 times here!

Yes, they performed very well. In emotional scenes I have liked Erica more in the past but in yesterday's I was moved by him more. I guess her brief was to control her emotions and his was to let them out. Perhaps this made the difference.

As for the script, this is a journey of the 3 main characters - Dev, Ishwari & Sonakshi. Every other character lays out life in front of them and these 3 pick what & when they want to. Then moments are created around it and the actors step into the script and emote fantastically. That's it.

So looking at these 3 -

Dev - The ideal Son that Indian society loves. He gave up his love in a jiffy for his mother. Of course, he hurt his girl in the process but as he did it for his Mother, all is justified.

By now it is clear that this simplistic approach is the one they had planned to take up and if questioned, they feel confident that the devotion towards parents trumps all card can be played by them.

Dev, the ideal lover, didn't realize what he would be giving away when he broke up. The pain started when Sonakshi said, Goodbye Mr. Dixit'. He tried to come to terms with everything but then Sonakshi started not just moving on but moving to someone else. This totally confused the lover boy. He is lost. He is in pain. He doesn't know what he is doing.

- There, all his crazy behavior fully justified.

One more card given to ML side. It is a pity, this card was not even needed. They could have just shown us a normal reaction of a repenting and apologetic Dev, cannot see what they achieved by going down this path. Atleast the Shravan Kumar plot point was like a ladder in a snakes and ladders game.

Sona - First let's face it - her family is not pressurizing her so all the talks about doing this for family is moot. She is running away and family is just a cover.

This FL was dumped badly, lost her confidence in herself & in love. First time her family asked her for marriage, she agreed. Even they were surprised. Enter the most sorted guy - Mr. R. He understands her and tells her he will help her move on. At the restaurant, R says, Some people are weak. Dev is lost and doesn't know what he is doing but I am here for you. So let's stay and be strong unless you are really effected'

Established again - Dev is all alone and lost.

In the car, the FL hesitantly asks R why he asked Dev to marry her. Her hesitating, the lowering of her eyes... she turns into a little girl who needs to be saved...from herself.

As she walks towards her house, R looks at her amusedly and shakes his head. In my mind he is thinking Kids'!!

Little while later, Tina calls Sona and in a few seconds Sona gets up & runs to her Ex...

Ishwari - This is a Mother who has led a hard life and her kids are indebted to her (especially the elder one who got favored treatment at the cost of his siblings). Her obsession is being explained away as Mother's love & insecurity.

In the precap, she is worried of being caught - This Mother knows she's done wrong... but she's doing it out of love for her Son !! - There, justified.

You will excuse me if I excuse my simple brain from trying to comprehend her character and actions.

Interesting how the 2 doing wrong are fully justified and the one who is wronged is seeming unjust.

Exactly! Why would they want to attempt this double whammy when the audience had with great difficulty swallowed Ish's actions which they stopped relating to??

Dev's apology (or whatever it was) is given an overly subtle treatment and we have to read betweenthe lines and understand what was on Dev'd mind but in the same show we are forced to endure a heavy handed approach to scenes between mom and son (sorry i came one hour late and you had to wait, I am a bad son). Not to mention the unsubtle approach to all that Sona had to experience

After yesterday's beautiful play of emotions and fantastic expressions, here is my read -

- Dev will learn that his Mother sent the rishta

- He will ask her and Mother will explain it as trying to help the lovely girl, Sonakshi

- Dev will be upset but will admire that his mother was trying to do good (He doesn't know she knows why they broke up & She knows the reason but will never acknowledge).

- Dev will spiral into deeper depression in preparation for the Big Day - Engagement

- On engagement day, this ML will not be Devdas but Dev Dixit (as we were informed) and he will, in his own way, try to kill himself. No ML just faints looking at the FL getting engaged and after knowing this is his Mother's wish, better to end the trauma than to continue bearing the pain...or some such stupidity.

- Sona takes him to Ishwari Nivas

- Sona - Ishwari face off again

- Might be start of Ishwari 1% realization now

To frustrate viewers and make us gnash our teeth they introduced the hospital drama because of which no one speaks plainly with her. Again another convenient crutch. From all this it is very evident the makers have lost no sleep over nuanced storytelling. They were very clear that they would just fall back on drama to do their job.

- After such a public drama, R will stand by Sona but marriage is a family affair and question of family honor and all. R will have a mature talk with Sona or Sona herself will announce she is still in love with her Ex.

- R will be Sona's friend.

- There cannot be any more marriage talks in the Bose house after this.

This all leads to the early promos. All 3 standing exactly where the story wants them to -

Ishwari - The Insecure Mother

Dev - The helpless Son

Sona - The supportive FL.

In between, there will be the journalist fiasco but that's not important.

On Indian TV, sitting down with parents, being rational & talking to them is a real long-shot. This could be seen as going against Mother and fighting for FL. Nope, ML can't do that. So we have the females figure it out while the men play loving & helpless.

Right you are. We were misled earlier by scenes like the walk on the road when she said to him -you handle your family very well. That was a different Dev.

Sona rightly said, She will handle her parents'. Yup, she will. And every other character will be managed/handled too as and when these 3 are ready to move around in the puzzle.

FL's parents are supposed to be supportive. Her support gene comes from them after all.

R will be a good mirror and he already understands human psyche. He only showed the amount of mirror that the restaurant scene required. Rest, he will keep for later when these characters are ready to move.

This really made me LOL

This is a fictional show & they have to carry it forward for many more months. Moments will lead to moments but they are not writing anything unique - This was always a Mom-Son-DIL story. Not a Man-Woman love story. The equation will always be Mom - Son. Mom - DIL. What's left is Son-DIL. In this avatar, they are never Man-Woman but always a reflection of roles they play.

That is what eventually happens to most shows., They have flashes of brilliance which can be called moments on the show. We witnessed one such moment yesterday. They are unable to maintain a coherent flow for too long in the daily soap format. KYY was a bit of an exception.

I may sound cynical but Indian TV does what it does with elan. We probably were too starved for something completely unique and pitched our hopes too high.

Well, each one of us will watch till we can and then there is the TV remote.

Phew! Huge long post but unlike the script writers who play with moments, I just had to get into the background first 😃

Loved reading it!!

You are always welcome and we would love to have you join the party. if you have not tired of this thread yet already.

On the show - They are leading upto something and it cannot just be the breaking of Sona's engagement since everyone knows that would not happen.

Wonder what they are leading upto?

I can never get tired of this wonderful discussion with you two!
Yeah, after yesterday's episode, even I'm very sure now that they're leading upto something. Curious to know what it is.
Also, something happens in the coming two episodes that leads to the engagement madness.
He seemed so sane yesterday. I wonder what is it that pushes him over the edge? I hope it's not just alcohol😕

I have a feeling he is going to kill himself... in the most public way 😊
OK...that's the level of faith I have left now ...

But reason could be - 'Dev is the reason for all wrong'
His mom told him she was trying to adjust with the idea of Sona but he decided to break up. She felt bad for Sona so she sent this alliance - Dev's fault.

If he hadn't broken up Sona wouldn't be moving on in the first place.

If after the journalist fiasco, someone from the Bose family screams at him that he spoilt Sona's life. God forbid, if Sona does the screaming herself (am hoping not)...

Then this lost & shattered boy in depths of depression feels that all the mess around him is his fault.
So he goes to correct it... die after seeing her one last time. 'Ab kucch galat nahi hoga'...his anger could be directed towards himself...

Now that's the most filmy way I could find 😃
All this stress on 'ek aakhri baar' is making it filmy...

But if the makers decide to throw a surprise and get Dev to make that world's most romantic proposal instead... that would silence me 😃 ...
