Rajesh Khanna’s family accused of neglect as Anita Advani warns them, 'karma comes around, you can’t escape it

Anita Advani, once linked to late superstar Rajesh Khanna, has reignited her battle against the actor’s family. Speaking on REEL Meet REAL, she accused them of neglecting Khanna during his troubled years yet inheriting his entire estate.

Advani recalled a painful chapter from 1982, when Dimple Kapadia left the actor. “For 30 years, he had lost everything. Everyone abandoned him. He was stuck—no divorce, no resolution,” she said. According to her, the family only returned when matters spiralled, adding, “Everything went completely out of control—beyond anyone’s reach, including his own. Yet, the family ended up with his entire property. That in itself is a big story.”

Referring to her ongoing legal fight, she cited a Supreme Court observation. “The earlier order against me holds no weight. Its observations don’t matter. No one can take anything with them after they go. Why cheat like this? Every relationship deserves respect. Karma comes around on its own. No matter how smart you think you are, you can't escape it.” The long-standing dispute over Rajesh Khanna’s property remains unresolved, with Advani continuing to push her claim against the family.

Rajesh Khanna, remembered as India’s first superstar, rose to fame in the late 1960s and enjoyed a fan following unlike any other. In 1973, he married actress Dimple Kapadia. Their marriage, however, soon ran into trouble. By 1982, they had separated but never formally divorced. Despite the bitterness, Dimple returned in his later years to care for him as his health declined.

Khanna spent his final phase at his iconic Mumbai residence, Aashirwad. Friends often described him as reclusive, choosing to stay away from the public eye. His health began to fail around 2011, with reports pointing to cancer, though the family never confirmed the illness publicly.

On 18 July 2012, Rajesh Khanna passed away at the age of 69. His funeral was attended by industry veterans, politicians, and countless fans, cementing his legacy as a superstar whose life was as dramatic off screen as it was on. As the property dispute drags on more than a decade after his death, Advani’s latest remarks have once again brought the private conflicts of cinema’s brightest star into public view.
