By redemption track one means- awareness of the mistake without viewer or the character or the writer using a 3rd person as a crunch. Then this awareness is followed by introspection by the said character and giving that much sensitivity to the situation and circumstances. The most important is him making amends without invading privacy or again forcing down the control.
Here, Dev has not understood the wrong. Nor has he got the point of why he left Sona .Neither he has introspected what he will do to keep her around . This conversation from Dev should have happened the very day , next day or whenever they had a convo before he went all psycho and obsessive control freak. if tomorrow Ishwari has this awareness and her love gives her a perspective would that undone whatever has happened or doesn't that gloss over. Same with Dev

This was needed when Dev broke up with Sona but now redemption or the arc is meaningless because they pushed Dev to the edge where he is emotionally abusive or has been .

It's a show , unlike life , it is controlled by writers where interactions are limited . A family of Sona would have filed an FIR against Dev for his excessive calling or stalking. But yeah , never happens.

The reason why checks and balances of a character is needed for a fictional story is where passive emotional abuse shouldn't be okayed in the name of louu.

It came across stupid and silly, degraded Sona that she went back to him immediately after the stunt he pulled...see the dysfunctional, the guy spoils it all , her family name , prestige and invades that space and yet this girl runs to him after all that has happened. I would have understood had it happened earlier and Dev wasn't pursuing Sona aggressively before..but now doesn't matter.

if a Dev's arc where he realizes his mistake, understands them is not shown, or where Sona doesn't express her fears, her apprehensions from this union than why are we even bothered about Ishwari. She too is all justified in love then, her love for her son..and her "need" for him to be all about him. To make that distinction you needed this arc.

The basic issue is this-the writers don't think Dev was at fault when he impulsively broke up with Sonakshi..I noticed Durjoy Dutta tweeted a few days back that viewers are torn and unable to decide if Dev was right or wrong..And Raghuveer Shekawat mentioned in an IV that Ishwari deserves empathy and not judgment cos she has been through a lot in life..So essentially they don't think either of these characters are wrong..Unfortunately, they do not have the patience or the creativity to write a show where you retain the complexity of the characters, make them do mistakes yet make sure the viewers relate and sympathize with them..They want drama and made these characters lose their head..Ppl are cribbing about Dev's mistakes being glorified and Sonakshi being understanding but I can bet my last penny that Ishwari will be justified even more and there will be a point when Dev will lose his temper but Sonakshi will control him and make him understand that mommy is awesome and he shouldn't be such a badtameez..So yes, its an Indian show..Female lead trumps all..She is awesome and mature and forgiving..And she can have issues with everyone except her mom-in-law and as an Indian woman, she dare not be selfish and fight with her 😆 And Ishwari might have been a complex and different character to start off with but now she is just a scorned, obsessed mom-in-law who will be taught to love by Sonakshi..And Dev, well Dev is the typical male lead who is way too good at one point and way too annoying at another and they all are made to do things just to take the story forward..Right now, ppl want Dev-Sonakshi together because of Shaheer-Erica and that is the story of every single Indian show..Where you continue watching out of habit or becuase you are just curious or because you like certain moments or you like the actors..The sooner we come to terms with it, the more we can enjoy a Hindi soap 😆

Dev is far from Redeemed... But Saying Sorry would not have redeemed him eitherways.. Him saying Sorry to Sona wouldn't have redeemed him because if it had... he did say sorry when he broke up with her. It had no meaning.

Redemption is understanding the pain he caused her . It is ensuring that he earns her trust. It is standing up for her, prioritizing her and no amount of sweet words can do that.

This time Dev has to act on it. He has to prove that he is a man of action.

In love, within a family you aren't hung up on a word. If my son made a mistake and came crying to me, I wont wait for him to say Sorry I just would understand he is... so he is here.

When Dev told her she was his life, how can he remove her from his? It wasn't a way of saying , I didn't . It was a way of acknowledging how did I even think I could??

That acknowledgement made Sona forgive him...

Saying Sorry is not what causes redemption. A man beats his wife and says sorry wouldn't redeem him. He has to stop doing it... Change his attitude. Redemption is a process and it will come. With Character growth it will come.

Said this yesterday's scene was perfect. No complaints. The day Dev asks Sona to come back in his life, he will have to earn her trust back.. that will start the process.

It's so surprising how the writers don't want to spell out the visible wrongs of their characters, understandably they are selling the product. Ofcourse Ishwari will be white-washed randomly, perhaps Sona doing something mahaan but she is long gone from whatever she was meant to be.

I think the fault lies that most these shows are plot written, makers prefer stagnant characters for the sake of drama and to get those high moments. Meh.

What makes it sadder though is Sony proclaiming the shows to be some progressive realistic thing which they aren't ..same old stuff even though they don't have to compete in the trp race much.

Which is probably why we'l never get a show where the female lead is selfish, bratty, arrogant etc. Which is also why the male lead is better off financially than the female lead in most cases..Every show, fans claim that their female lead is different..Realistic and a breathe of fresh air compared to other shows..Superficially its true..Cos a Sonakshi or a Sumo might not be a Gopi or a Sandhya..But at the end of the day, they all tick the same boxes..Ditto with the male leads..They are all made grey/arrogant because of a difficult past and eventually every mistake of theirs is justified because they are good at heart and love their family and circumstances forced them to do whatever they did..Can we ever have a show where the female lead is selfish? Where Sonakshi throws a tantrum and says she loves him and can't stand his psycho mom as a package deal? That will never happen cos the female lead has to be mature and understanding..And that is also the reason why they have made Dev this overtly understanding and emotional when it comes to Ishwari..Cos they have to play out the ideal son troupe and make him this perfect son who is lost in their own screwed up way..We may talk about complexity, writing etc. but at the end of the day, the leads in 9 out of 10 shows tick the same boxes..The way they go about it might be different, the way their characters are butchered might be different but they all are essentially the same..You enjoy some more than the rest probably because you like the story or the actors better 😆

Word, Roger. It's mostly the treatment that may separate them but 9/10 times , it's same old with different packaging.
Sona is not even reacting or understanding what shitty mom meant and how can Dev handle her. What is expected of him- that he says, back off mom, he will never do that. Because Sona is mahaan she won't want that either coz she would "understand" his dilemma and suck it up.Ultimately it's about a Would be bahu winning over her crooked MIL .
The roles are pretty much stereotyped and won't change. Not just for desi shows but outside too. Shades and twilight sold so many copies ..that says it all .

Also, desi shows suffer more because essentially the show is about love story the home dynamics so we are just about exploring all the contriving drama there. Not like we can have office conflict , work problem and love takes a backseat.

Absolutely bang on👏 You said what I wanted to say in a much better way. Those words in no way meant that Dev was denying the fact that he did ask her to go out of his life. It was more of an admittance that though he himself has asked her to leave, he can not separate her from his very being.
Sonakshi understood his words and hence, she did not ask why you left me like this. . Instead she said "ab in sab ka kya fayda"

Redemption is more from actions and not shallow words. I am already seeing Dev repenting badly and what happened yesterday was a major event in terms of Dev coming to face the reality. When he finally faced it, he handled it calmly. Let Sonakshi go with tears in his eyes, asking to meet her one last time on their engagement. I think it was a clear indication that finally he understood the fact that he can't hurt her anymore and if the relationship is not meant to be, all he can do is learn to live with the pain rather than going berserk trying to have control.

I loved the entire episode yesterday, It was meningful and well in place.

@roger, charminggenie...arey its fiction genre...dey wld nvr be that true evn in non-fiction...wat dey actually...v r not even dat true to ourselves...d mahaan (great) version of ourselves is ready fr display to d world...who is happy abt bng known as mean grey person (maybe some are, i don't think iv met many)...
The male female thing is a world phenomenon...it will take eons to change that...
These are 9 o clock shows... watch good ppl and feel good if u can...reality is anyways so f**ked up wid the corrupt politician, the manipulative boss, the maid who didn't turn up and bloody rain n trafick jam bcz of which i spend hrs in d cabs...lets just cut of the reality and enjoy bichara bicharis (or lovebirds...watever suites ones pallette)...

Maybe im using the excuse of reality is not pleasant enough to be put on TV...but maybe that is my excuse...reality on screen wen it becomes so close...cld end up.being self loathing... it wld take long take to come out and look objectively...v can't look at our own lives objectively...as long as its a story in some lost village...of some man/woman v nevr knew...der struggles n flights...der good bad and ugly...its all ohk to appreciate the realistic point of view...
If everything wrong (or real which ends up being wrong to someone) is put on display...it wont be an easy watch for all

I know only higher expectations can get better products in the market...for years v hv settled for wat is served to us...but i keep on forgetting this somehow...
