I don't think I can ever get into a jodi's head and think like them enough to write...like I have with Meet.
Or maybe I should say that they've gotten into my head...😆

So we have a Meet deewani in you:):)

for update 😃

pg 7
wow complication with Meher 😭
The way Preet reacted made us all very concerned and sad.
oooh Teji seemed to be in emotional turmoil all the time.
Great to see Preet's bro & sis in law were around.
I liked this scene.
FB - liked Ashlesha Meher convo.
ewww daljeet just always make me throw up -for her big mouth
(in the show she was funny and evil that was not so terrible 😆)
Great that Preet wanted to prove himself and Meher supporting him.
It's awesome Meher had goal and always know what she needs and stay focused.

Preet is too anxious and not allowing Meher to talk sigh

Lets see what happens to Meher in hospital.

{Flashback continues}

Three months later...

The Junejas and Maans were gathered at Preet and Meher's home for a barbeque.

"It's such a nice day for a family get together", said Gaytri.

"Yes", agreed Teji. "Meher, I can't believe you actually got Preet to agree to it".

"Ma! You underestimate Preet", cried Meher. "He loves family get togethers".

"Liar!" said Teji.

"Okay so I'm lying", giggled Meher. "But I just thought it would be nice, with the long weekend and all. Besides it's the perfect opportunity for you all to see what we've done with the new house. Preet and I have worked really hard over the last six months to fix it up. What do you think?"

"It's amazing how little square footage your dollar will get you these days", sighed Teji.

"Ma!" cried Meher.

"I still think you should have let us foot the bill for a leather sectional. It would have been perfect for the living room", added Gaytri.

"But I like the couch Preet and I picked out", said Meher.

"Meher ignore them", said Kulraj, taking Meher aside. "It's a lovely house. It's wonderful what you and Preet have done with it. And what's even more amazing is how my Peter Pan of a brother is finally settling into the suburban life-style. I mean, he's actually making barbeque".

Kulraj and Meher looked over at Preet, sweating it out at the grill, with his "Kiss the Chef" apron. Both girls burst out laughing.

"Hey Preet, you need any help?" asked Prem, as he walked up to his younger brother.

"No PB, I've got everything under control", said Preet. "In fact the first batch of barbequed chicken is coming right up".

"Okay then", said Prem, "I'll go help Kiran Jiju settle the kids down. We'll serve them first".

Preet gave his elder brother a thumbs-up sign before turning his attention back to the grill. He was transferring the food onto a large dish, when Kulraj's 3 children and little Chahat ran by playing tag with each other. One of them bumped into him accidently, causing the tongs he was holding to fall from his hand.

"Hey guys watch it!" he cried. But it was too late. A perfectly good leg quarter was now lying on the grass. Rats! Thought Preet. Now I'm going to be one piece short. Wait a minute isn't there supposed to be like a 5 second rule when food falls on the ground? Preet looked around to make sure no one was watching, then quickly picked up the leg piece and began to inspect it. Looks okay to to me, he thought. He was about to add it to the plate with the rest of the barbeque, when he saw Tanu staring at him with her arms folded.

"Heh Heh", chuckled Preet. "I was just taking in the aroma". He pretended to sniff the chicken piece. "Good...real good. Your Preet Mamu is a natural when it comes to grilling". Tanu raised an eyebrow questioningly. "Okay look", said Preet, "I won't tell anyone if you don't".

"Mom!" screamed Tanu, as she ran back to join the rest of the family, "Preet Mamu dropped a piece of chicken and he tried to add it back to the plate of food!"

"Preet!" cried Meher and Kulraj in unison.

"No... I swear! I'm not!" lied Preet. "She's lying! I was just putting it aside for the neighbor's cat".

"Preet!" hissed Meher, as she came and took the plate of grilled food away. "How could you?! I've never been so embarrassed in my entire life!"

Preet stared after Meher, and then looked at the leg piece he was still holding, "I hate kids", he grumbled.

Later that evening....

Everyone had gone home, except for Preet and Meher's parents.

"Well, that was a fine barbeque", said Lalit. "You've turned into quite a chef son".

"Thanks dad", smiled Preet. It felt good to get a complement from his father, especially since they were so few and far in between.

"I like what you and Meher have done with the house too", continued Lalit. He paused for a minute as he saw the ladies bring in tea from the kitchen. "So, which room is going to be the nursery?"

"The what?" Preet asked in surprise.

"I think the room across from the master bedroom is just perfect", Teji piped in.

"Wait a minute", said Preet. "Aren't you guys getting a little ahead of yourselves? Meher and I are not ready to have kids. Right Meher?"

"Um...Uh...", stuttered Meher.

"You know Meher", Teji cut in, "when I was your age, I had already had Nihal and Heer was on the way".

"Teji, you know Mr. Saxena at the office", added Balraj, "well...he was showing off a picture of his latest grandchild last week. Made me think...I've got only a year and half left before I retire, and I've got an empty spot on my desk, right next to Chahat's photo that's just begging for one of another grandchild".

"So you want Meher and me to produce a child so you can fill up desk space?!" Preet cried, shaking his head in disbelief. "This is ridiculous".

"But Preet..." began Gaytri.

"No Ma", interrupted Preet. "I've said it before and I'll say it again...we are perfectly happy the way we are. And we are not having a baby".

"Why not?" asked Gaytri

"What do you mean why not?" cried Preet. "We're just not".

"But it's been 4 years since you two got married", said Gaytri. She looked at Meher. "Are you sure there's no problem?"

"Oh no, there couldn't possibly be anything wrong with Meher", interrupted Teji. "We Maans are very fertile people. Preet on the other hand..."

"Ma please!" cried Meher.

"I can't believe this!" said Preet getting up suddenly. "For once...just once...can't you guys come over and behave like a normal functional family?"

"Preet please..." said Meher.

"No Meher!" cried Preet. "I'm not interested in discussing family planning or our fertility rate with our parents. It's none of their business! Now if you'll all excuse me, I'm going to turn in early".

Later that night...

After their parents left, Meher cleared up the dishes and went to join Preet in their room. She found him already in bed with his eyes closed. From the expression on his face, she could see that he was still upset. Meher quickly brushed her teeth and changed into her night clothes, before quietly slipping into bed with Preet.

"Preet", said Meher, "I know you're awake. Are you still upset?"

"No Meher", sighed Preet, "I'm not upset".

"Do you want to talk?" asked Meher.

"No", replied Preet.

"So this isn't a good time to talk?" asked Meher.

"About what?" asked Preet.

"Kids", said Meher.

Preet turned to face Meher. "Kids?" He asked. "You want kids?"

"Don't you?" asked Meher.

"Meher", sighed Preet. "We're still kids ourselves, how are we supposed to look after actual kids?"

"So you don't want kids?" asked Meher.

"I didn't say that", sighed Preet. "It's just that, they're not like some item you pick up from the store and then return it cause you changed your mind. The decision to have them is irreversible. I'm not sure I'm ready for anything irreversible right now".

"Oh", said Meher.

"Besides", continued Preet. "Do you know how big a responsibility having children is? You have to feed them, and clothe them, change diapers, wipe their noses, pay for their education, and medical bills. We're still not done paying off the car loan, and now we have the house payments. I don't want to have to ask my father for help and be reminded for the rest of my life that I should have joined his business, or that I couldn't take care of my family on my own".

Preet put his arm around Meher and pulled her closer to him. "Look...I know what it is", he said. "It's all that nonsense our parents were spouting tonight that's got you all confused. But trust me...it's not a good idea. We're not ready. Just forget about it and go to sleep".

He kissed Meher and then turned to go back to sleep.

"Preet", said Meher in a small voice. "If I tell you something...will you get mad?"

"What is it?" asked Preet.

"First promise me that you won't get mad", said Meher.

"Meher just tell me what it is?" said Preet.

"No. First promise me you won't get mad", insisted Meher.

Preet turned around to face his wife. "Alright", he said. "I promise I won't get mad".

"You swear you won't get mad?" asked Meher.

"Meher will you stop it!" cried Preet.

"You're getting mad", said Meher.

"I'm not!" said Preet. "Okay look, Dharti Ma ki kasam I won't get mad. Khush? Now tell me what is it?"

Meher took a deep breath before continuing. "I...I stopped taking the pill 3 months ago".

At first Preet wasn't sure he had heard her correctly, then slowly her words began to sink in.

"Aaarrrggghhh!!!!" Preet sat up and screamed. "You did what?!?!?"

"Preet you said you wouldn't get mad", Meher said worriedly.

"Meher how could you do this?!?" cried Preet.

"I don't believe this", said Meher. "You swore you wouldn't get mad".

"Well I think I have a right to be just a little bit upset, don't you?!" asked Preet. "How could you do this?! How could you take such a big step without even talking to me first?!"

"I...I don't know", stuttered Meher. "I guess...I just felt my biological clock ticking".

"Meher you're only 24 years old! What biological clock?!" Cried Preet. "Wait a minute. Are you like...pregnant?!"

"I don't know", said Meher.

"What do you mean you don't know?!" demanded Preet.

"Preet, you're yelling at me", said Meher. "I don't know, because I'm late this month, but I haven't had a pregnancy test to make sure. Look...I'm sorry. I tried to talk to you several times, but either you weren't in the mood or something or the other always came up".

Meher watched Preet nervously pass his hands over his face. "Preet let's just go to sleep", she said. "We can talk about it in the morning".

"Sleep!" cried Preet, as he got out of bed and pulled his pants on. "How on earth do you expect me to sleep after the bombshell you just dropped on me?"

"Preet, where are you going?" asked Meher.

"To the drugstore to buy an over the counter pregnancy test kit", said Preet. "I have to find out how deep in the water I'm in".

A shortwhile later...

Preet returned with the kit and handed it to Meher. He watched as she quietly took it with her into the washroom. Preet paced back and forth, anxiously waiting for her to come out. Several minutes later Meher came out and quietly sat on the bed.

"Well?" asked Preet. From the look on Meher's face, he knew something was wrong. "Meher what happened? What did the test say?"

"I'm not pregnant Preet", Meher answered quietly.

"Phew!" cried Preet, as he exhaled loudly in relief, and raised his arms in the air. "There is a God!" He was about to say something else, when he saw a tear trickle down Meher's cheek. "Meher...are you...crying?"

"No", sniffled Meher. She turned her face away from Preet so he wouldn't see the tears that were pouring out uncontrollably from her eyes.

"Meher if this is some part of our mothers' plan to do some emotional attayachaar on me...I'm warning you it's not going to work", said Preet, as he folded his arms determinedly.

"There's no plan Preet", said Meher, as she quickly wiped her tears, climbed back under the covers, and turned off the light. "Good night".

Preet quietly came and sat on his side of the bed. He could hear Meher trying her best to stifle her sobs. Damn! He thought. Why did I have to go and make her cry?

"Meher...are you okay?" asked Preet.

"Sure", Meher said in between sobs.

"Meher, will you please look at me", said Preet. When Meher didn't respond, he got up and walked over to her side of the bed. "Meher, you know I can't stand to see you cry...Ow!!"

"Kya hua Preet?" asked Meher as she quickly turned on the lights.

Preet limped over and sat next to her and grabbed a hold of his big toe. He had apparently stubbed it against something in the dark.

"Bauhat zor se lagi hai kya?" asked Meher. "Should I bring the first-aid box?"

Preet looked at Meher's concern filled face and shook his head. He felt like a total jerk. He had shown complete disregard for her feelings just a few moments ago, and she on the other hand couldn't bear to see him in the slightest bit of pain.

Preet gently wiped Meher's tear streaked face with his hands and took her into his arms. "Meher...I'm sorry. I behaved like an insensitive jerk with you. Lagta hai Bhagwan ko bhi acha nahin laga", he said pointing to his toe. "But I guess...I just got scared".

"I'm sorry too Preet" said Meher. "I didn't mean to frighten you. And you're right. I should never have done anything on my own". She began to cry again.

"Aray Meher...ab kyun ro rahi ho?" asked Preet.

"I'm sorry Preet. I didn't mean to cry", Meher said in between sobs. "It's just that...I was so sure I was pregnant".

"Meher...", said Preet. "I had no idea you wanted to start a family so badly. I always just thought we weren't ready".

"But I know we're ready", sobbed Meher.

"You mean you're ready", Preet corrected her.

"No. I mean we're ready", insisted Meher. "But I guess it's just not something you want". She continued to cry into Preet's shoulder.

Preet felt guilty. He hated seeing her this way. "Oh God Meher...please don't cry. Look...if this is something you really want...I mean...if you really think we're ready...maybe...we can think about this...I mean we can try..."

"Really Preet?" interrupted Meher, as she looked up at him in surprise. "You think so? You mean it?"

"Well..." began Preet, but Meher didn't let him finish.

"You're the best Preet", she cried as she hugged him tightly. "And I know you'll make the world's best father. I just know it".

"I don't know about that", said Preet offering her a weak smile. "But I do know that I love you more than anything else in this world. And I'm willing to do anything to make you happy".

A week later...

Preet came home from work. He looked around but there was no sign of Meher.

"Preet!" Meher called out. "Is that you?"

"Yes Meher", Preet called out. "Where are you?"

"I'm upstairs in our bedroom", Meher yelled. "Come up quick!" Preet ran upstairs and found her undressing by their bed.

"Meher, what are you doing?" asked Preet.

"Preet, I'm so glad you're home. I've been doing a bit of research on the internet about successful baby conceiving techniques and all", explained Meher. "I've counted my cycle days...we're in just the right range. I've also been checking my temperature all day, and I think it's at an optimum right now. There's a good chance I may be ovulating, so...let's do this".

"You want have sex before dinner?" Preet asked hesitantly.

"Ha! I can't believe you of all people are hesitating", chuckled Meher.

"I'm not. It's just that...well...this is so unlike you. And you sound so...scientific and unromantic", complained Preet. "It almost seems like you're turning our little love nest into a...stud farm. I feel so cheap all of a sudden. Like I'm going to be used or something".

"Preet!" said Meher rolling her eyes. "You promised you'd get serious about trying to start a family. You're not going back on your word now, are you?"

"No...but...", said Preet.

"No buts, Preet Juneja", said Meher, as she grabbed him by his shirt, pulled him towards her, and planted an inviting kiss on his lips. "I'm a very serious girl".

"This might not be such a bad idea after all", smiled Preet, as he allowed his wife to help him undress and gave into her demands.

That's all for this week. Hope you all liked it. Please do remember to leave your feedback or atleast hit the like button. 😛
