Hey thanks for ch3.
Wow what an update!

Pg 11 ch 3
FB scenes were interesting.

There's some reality check in the way Meher behaved. I absolutely dislike when ppl hide something but I understand in a desperate state ppl do things then realize its wrong .

I kinda thought Meher was pregnant when Preet was getting the test fr the pharmacy lol
Family BBQ seemed fun - Tanu was v cute - reminded me of her interrupting PH in the show.
Kulraj being supportive to Meher Preet's house was sweet.
Haha Meher getting all excited for baby at the end and Preet's reaction was so funny. I thought he was going to upset her but Meher simply ignored his comment lol
I can see parents requesting for grandchild is not something Preet want to hear, but he really is over
reacting at times. I mean the parents or in laws aren't Daljeet who really bites with her words.

I was losing patience when his reactions became predictable.
Love the masti scenes and dialogues. My fav ch so far Fatima is ch 1 - don't know y . I'll wait for your next update,

2 days & counting for next one 🥳

Thanks for the comments Athisda.
You know parents mean well...most of the time...but sometimes their remarks can be construed as interference...and when you're living on your own...especially after marriage...that doesn't always go over well. 🤔
In this particular SS...both Preet and Meher have an over-bearing set of parents. I think Preet tends to lose his patience more than Meher because everyone assumes he's incompetent...and is not shy about letting him know that that's how they feel.
And trust me... a mother-in-law questioning how fertile your husband is does not go over well with him...🤣

{Flashback continues}

Two months later...

Preet sat in the waiting room of Meher's doctor's office. He had been flipping aimlessly through the same magazine for the past half-an-hour. Finally the door opened and Meher came out. She had a big grin on her face.

The look on her face seemed to say it all, but Preet still asked, "Well?"

"We did it Preet", smiled Meher as she hugged him tightly. "I'm officially 6 weeks pregnant".

"You are?" said Preet.

Meher nodded her head happily.
"Aren't you excited?" She asked.

"Sure", muttered Preet, giving her a weak smile. "I mean...I always knew I had it in me"

"How about we go out and celebrate?" suggested Meher. "I'll go make my next appointment, and in the meantime why don't you bring the car around. Then we'll go someplace nice".

Preet nodded quietly and exited the office.

A shortwhile later Meher walked out of the building, only to run into Heer and Chahat.

"Maasi!" cried Chahat as she ran and hugged Meher's legs.

"Hey sweetie", said Meher as she bent down and kissed her neice. "Hi Heer Didi, what are you guys doing here?" she asked.

"Chahat's pediatrician has an office in this building", said Heer. "We're here for a routine check-up. How about you?"

"Didi, you'll never guess", smiled Meher. "I'm expecting".

"What?! That's great", cried Heer as she hugged her younger sister. "You and Preet must be so excited".

"Well", sighed Meher, "I am, but I can't say the same for Preet. I mean, to be honest, I think he's more scared than excited. I almost feel guilty about having pushed him into fatherhood".

"Believe it or not, Preet's reaction is quite normal", laughed Heer. "Prem was the same way, when I first became pregnant with Chahat".

"He was?" Meher asked in surprise.

"Yup!" smiled Heer. "See, guys are a lot more complicated than us. When we think baby, we think of cute little bundles of joy that smell like baby powder. Men see it like a huge responsibility, stinky diapers, bills, bills and more bills, not to mention the kiss of death as far as romance goes. Just give him some time, and I'm sure he'll warm up to the idea".

"Thanks Didi", said Meher. "I feel a lot better now. Listen, I should go. Preet's waiting in the car for me".

Moments later, Meher joined Preet in the car. "Sorry I took so long Preet. I actually ran into Heer Didi", Meher explained.

"It's okay", said Preet. "I suppose you told her about your good news".

"Our good news", Meher corrected him. "And yes, I told her, after all, tum hi to kehte ho, ke good news bantne se badti hai".

"I do say that, don't I?" sighed Preet.

"What's the matter Preet? Are you not happy about the baby?" Meher asked worriedly.

"No it's not that", said Preet, "I was just wondering that..."

"What?" asked Meher.

"Well, now that you're pregnant and all", continued Preet hesitantly, "...does this mean...we have to stop trying?"

"Preet!" giggled Meher, as she hugged him. "I love you".

"I love you too Meher", smiled Preet.

2 months later...

"Preet...Are you asleep?" asked Meher, giving him a slight nudge. "Preet?"

Preet slowly opened one eye and glanced over at the alarm clock on his bedside table. It was 2 am. He tried to go back to sleep but Meher tapped him on his arm again.

"Preet Juneja, are you trying to ignore me?" asked Meher.

"No Meher", lied Preet, "What is it?"

"I'm hungry", said Meher.

"We'll have breakfast in a couple of hours", Preet reassured her, "go back to sleep".

"But Preet...I'm hungry now", insisted Meher. "Would you mind getting me something to eat?"

"Meher it's 2 in the morning", whined Preet.

"Please", said Meher.

Okay", Preet sighed, as he sluggishly dragged himself out of bed. "What would like? A glass of milk, chips, cereal, some left overs slapped between 2 pieces of toast..."

"Ice cream", smiled Meher.

"What?" asked Preet.

"Ice cream", repeated Meher. "Pistachio ice cream to be exact, and some pickles would be nice too".

Preet went down to the kitchen and looked through the freezer. There were boxes of chocolate, strawberry, rocky road, and even butter pecan, but there was no pistachio ice cream, and no pickles. He carefully scooped out a little of each ice cream and placed it in a bowl and brought it back for Meher. "Here you go", he said, handing her the bowl.

"This isn't pistachio ice cream", complained Meher. "And where are my pickles?"

"It's all we had", Preet yawned. "I'm afraid you'll have to make do with this".

"No", said Meher.

"What?" said Preet.

"I have a real craving for pistachio ice cream and pickles", insisted Meher.

"Well...what do you want me to do...go to the store and get you some?" Preet asked in surprise.

"Yes", said Meher.

"At 2 in the morning? No way!" protested Preet. "Now eat your ice cream like a good girl and let me go back to sleep".

"I don't believe this", said Meher. "I'm having cravings and you don't even care".

"I do care", said Preet, "but let's be reasonable...I'm not going out at 2 in the morning for some stupid pistachio ice cream when we've got 4 perfectly good flavors at home. Besides, everything is closed right now".

"But Preet...", began Meher.

"Good night Meher", said Preet, as he pulled the bedcovers over himself and settled back to sleep.

"Fine!" said Meher. "I'll go get it myself". She slammed the bowl down on her bedside table and stomped out of the room.

Damn! Thought Preet, as he quickly threw the covers back and ran after Meher. He caught up to her in just as she had reached their driveway.

"Meher, wait up!" cried Preet. "Where do you think you're going...in your night gown...all alone...this late? And why are you walking?"

"As if you care?" cried Meher as she pushed past him.

"Okay", said Preet as he ran in front of his wife and blocked her path. "You win. I'm sorry. I'll take you for your ice cream...but we'll go in the car. Okay?"

"Okay", smiled Meher.

Preet drove Meher to several stores before he finally found one that was open 24 hours. He quickly darted into the store and was soon back with his purchases.

"Here Meher", said Preet, handing her a brown paper bag. "Your color coordinated snacks...pickles and pistachio ice cream".

"Thanks Preet, you're a life saver", smiled Meher. She immediately popped open the jar of pickels and pulled one out, using it to spoon some ice cream into her mouth. "I thought I was going to go nuts with the craving I was having. You want some?"

"No thanks", said Preet making a face. He started the car and began the drive home.

A shortwhile later...

Preet pulled his car into the drive way. "Well...we're finally home", he said looking over at Meher. She had been happily munching on her treats throughout the ride home, but she was quiet now and her face seemed to be turning green. "Meher, are you okay?" asked Preet.

Meher didn't answer. She quickly covered her mouth with her hands and ran into the house. Preet could hear her throwing up as he reached their room. A shortwhile later an exhausted looking Meher came out of the bathroom.

"You okay?" Preet asked as he helped her sit on the bed.

"Yes", nodded Meher, "but I'm afraid I threw up all the ice cream. I'm sorry Preet".

"For what?" asked Preet.

"I made you drive around town at 2 in the morning just for some pistachio ice cream, only to have it wind up in the toilet", said Meher. "I don't know what's wrong with me".

"Nothing's wrong with you Meher", smiled Preet. "You're just pregnant". He carefully took her into his arms, and let her rest her weary head on his chest until she fell asleep.

3 months later...

"Meher hurry up, we're going to be late for your appointment", Preet called out. "Meher?!"

"Preet come quick!" yelled Meher.

"What is it Meher?" asked Preet, as he ran upstairs to their bedroom.

"I think I just felt the baby move", said Meher.

"No way...I mean...really?" said Preet.

"Yes", laughed Meher. "Here, put your hand here". She took his hand and placed it on her stomach. "There...did you feel that?"

"Yes", laughed Preet. "That's incredible! We've got a real football player in there".

"Or a ballerina", remarked Meher.

"Right", smiled Preet.

"Um...we better get going or else we'll be late for our appointment", Meher reminded Preet.

At the doctor's office, the nurse prepared Meher for an ultrasound, and Preet and Meher got their first glance of their baby.

"Oh my God! Preet! I can see its little hands and feet!" Meher cried happily. "That's the baby! That's our little baby!"

Preet stared at the monitor awestruck, but didn't say anything. In fact, Meher noted that he was quiet on the ride home and all throughout dinner too. Later that night, Meher was asleep, when she felt something on her stomach. She awoke to find Preet gently patting her stomach and then staring at it intently.

"Preet?" she said.

"Hmm...Oh...sorry Meher", said Preet, "I didn't mean to wake you".

"That's okay", said Meher. "Kya hua Preet?"

"I don't know Meher", said Preet. "I guess I'm feeling a little scared. I mean...up until now everything's been like fun and games. But after I felt the baby kick today, and saw it on the monitor in the doctor's office, it just hit me. I'm going to be a father...for real. I'm going to be responsible for bringing another human being into this world, and to take care of its every need. How will I do that? I mean...what if I don't live up to the mark? What if I have the same relationship with our kid as I have with my dad? What if...?"

"Preet", Meher interrupted him, "you are not your dad. You are Preet Juneja. And you'll do just fine. In fact I know you'll be the best dad in the whole world".

"Really?" said Preet.

"Yes really", said Meher, giving him a kiss on the cheek. "Now go to sleep".

"Um...Meher", said Preet.

"Yes Preet?" said Meher.

"I don't know how to change a diaper", said Preet.

"It's okay Preet", smiled Meher. "We'll learn together".

The next morning Preet was rushing to leave for the office. As usual he was running a bit late.

"Preet at least finish your toast", said Meher as she walked him to the door.

"There's no time Meher", said Preet, as he quickly downed a glass of orange juice. "I am so going to be late today". He handed her the empty glass, gave her a kiss on the cheek and ran out the door.

Meher was about to turn to go to the kitchen when the door opened again. It was Preet.

"Preet? Did you forget something?" asked Meher.

"Yeah", said Preet.

He surprised her by bending down and placing a gentle kiss on her stomach. And then he was gone again. Meher placed a hand on her stomach and smiled. She was right. He was going to be the best father ever.

2 months later...

"What do you think about this one?" asked Meher, as she pulled a dress off the rack.

"It's great", sighed Preet.

"Preet, be serious", said Meher. "You said that about the last 3 dresses I showed you too".

"That's because they all look the same to me", complained Preet. "Look, how much longer are you going to take? There's a Cubs game on later this evening and I don't want to miss it. Besides, I feel a bit strange standing in the women's section of the department store. I'm probably the only guy here".

"Just let me go try this one on", said Meher. "Last one...I promise".

Preet watched Meher walk away to the fitting room. Shopping for maternity clothes was not his idea of the best way to spend his Saturday afternoon. Getting bored with just standing in one place, he decided to look around. He was amazed at the selection of things they had for expecting mothers, including some pretty funky looking lingere.

He picked up a piece that was virtually see through, with feathers in just the right places. Should he surprise Meher with something like that? Nah! He chuckled to himself. She'd probably hand him his head on a platter. Preet looked at the wall next to the rack he was standing by. It was a display of nursing bras. You've got to be kidding me, thought Preet. Nursing bras?!? Hmm...I wonder how they're different from regular bras. He picked one off the display and looked at it carefully. He had just discovered the velcro portion that allowed the cup to open from the front and was playing around with it, when he heard someone cough behind him.

"Ahem", said an elderly sales lady. "Find something you like?"

"Heh heh, I was just checking this out", said Preet, holding out the bra. "Uh...For my wife", he added quickly. "She's pregnant". The sales lady looked around and saw no one. "She's in the fitting room, I swear", said Preet.

"We get all kinds", grumbled the sales lady under her breath as she walked away shaking her head.

Great! The old lady probably thinks I'm a cross-dresser or something, thought Preet. I better go find Meher.

Later that evening...

Preet was watching his baseball game, when Meher came and stood in front of him.

"Preet I need your opinion", she said.

"Meher, I'm watching the Cubs game...you're blocking my view", said Preet.

"Please Preet, it'll just take a minute", pleaded Meher.

"Okay shoot", sighed Preet. "What do you want to know?"

"Does this dress make me look fat?" asked Meher.

Preet looked at his wife. She was wearing one of the maternity dresses they had bought earlier today. Why? Why were women such complicated creatures? He wondered. If he lied and told her 'No', she'd accuse him of lying and throw a tantrum. If he told her the truth and said 'Yes' she'd still throw a tantrum and drag him back to the store tomorrow to exchange the dress for another one. Either way he was screwed.

"Preet are you paying attention?" asked Meher.

"Um...yeah", said Preet.

"So...What do you think? Does it make me look fat?" asked Meher.

"Sweetie, I don't think it's the dress", replied Preet.

"What is that supposed to mean?" demanded Meher. "You think I'm fat don't you? You're getting turned off by all the weight I've put on, and if I don't loose it right after the delivery, you'll leave me for that cheap bimbo who works in your office. The one who's always throwing herself at you. I've seen how she twirls her hair around her finger and smiles when she talks to you".

"Meher, have you gone nuts?!" cried Preet.

"Oh!! So first you call me fat and now you think I'm crazy?!" sobbed Meher.

Preet got up and took Meher by the shoulders and made her sit next to him on the sofa. "Meher you're not fat, just pregnant. And I love you no matter what".

"You sure?" asked Meher in between sobs.

"Yes I'm sure", said Preet, as he pulled her into a hug. "Besides...that 'bimbo' just got engaged last week".

"Preet!" cried Meher as she hit him playfully on his arm. "I love you Preet".

"I love you too Meher", laughed Preet.

{End of Flashback}

"Did you say something Preet?" asked Prem.

"Huhn?" said Preet. He had been so lost in thought, that he hadn't even realized it when his brother had come sat next to him.

"You okay?" asked Prem, as he handed Preet a cup of coffee.

"Yeah", said Preet. "I was just thinking about Meher, and all the things we did these past few months. She was so excited about the baby, and now we don't know what's going to happen. It's not fair PB, it's just not fair".

"Everything's going to be alright Preet", said Prem reassuringly. "Look, it's been quite a while now...you wait here and I'll go to the nurses' station and see if there's any news".

Just then a nurse approached the 2 young men. "Mr. Juneja", she said looking at Preet, "They've taken your wife out of the O.R. She's still a bit groggy from the anesthesia, but she's asking for you".

"Nurse how's my daughter", asked Teji as she and Gaytri walked over to join Preet and Prem. "How's the baby?"

"I'm sorry...we did everything we could", said the nurse. "Mr. Juneja, I think your wife needs you right now".

Teji covered her mouth with her hand and looked solemnly at Gaytri. Preet nodded his head trying his best to choke back his tears and quietly followed the nurse, as she led him to Meher's room.

Preet didn't know how long he stood in the doorway. He wasn't sure, how he was going to face Meher. What would he say? How would he console her for her loss? Their loss?

"Preet", he heard Meher mumble his name. He took a deep breath and approached her bed. Meher had her eyes closed and looked awfully pale. Preet leaned over and kissed her on the forehead. Meher slowly opened her eyes and offered him a weak smile.

"Preet", she whispered, "I'm sorry".

"No Meher", said Preet, "it's not your fault. It's not anybody's fault. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be. I don't want you to worry about anything. I mean...we can try again...after you recover. I mean...I'm so sorry Meher". His voice began to crack. "I'm just so sorry that I wasn't there for you. You shouldn't have had to go through all of this alone".

"It's okay", said Meher closing her eyes again. "It's over and done with now".

"Maybe I should let you get some rest" said Preet. "I'll go and talk to our family".

"Preet wait", said Meher. "Don't you want to see the baby?"

"No...I...what? The baby?" Preet asked in surprise.

"Yes", smiled Meher. "I'm sorry. I told the nurse not to say anything, because I wanted to be the first one to tell you...we have little boy".

"What?" asked Preet. He couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"We have beautiful little baby boy", smiled Meher. "You're a Papa, Preet".

Preet covered his face with his hands. He didn't know whether to laugh or cry. God hadn't punished him after all. Just then a nurse wheeled in a bassinet, with the latest addition to the Juneja family. Preet stared in awe at the tiny bundle lying inside the bassinet. Tears welled up in his eyes. That was his and Meher's little boy. His son.

Just then his cell phone rang. A very anxious Heer was on the line. "Hey Heer Maasi", answered Preet.

"Preet how's Meher? Wait a minute. Did you just call me maasi?" asked Heer.

"Yes", laughed Preet. "Meher's just fine. And so is the baby. It's a boy. We have little boy".

Preet could hear Heer relay the information to the rest of the anxious relatives, as well as their shouts of joy. "Preet", said Heer, "everyone wants to come up and see Meher and the baby. But I'll try and keep them down here for as long as I can so you two can have a little time together. Oh and Preet...congratulations".

"Thanks Heer bhabi", smiled Preet. "That was Heer Bhabi", he said to Meher. "Everyone's really excited. They'll be up shortly to see you and the baby". Preet leaned over and kissed Meher on the cheek. "Thanks Meher".

"For what?" asked Meher.

"For being my wife", said Preet. "For loving me just the way I am. And for going through everything you did to give me this wonderful gift".

Meher smiled.

Just then Preet heard the baby gurgle. "Hey big guy", said Preet, as he turned his attention towards the baby and caressed its cheek with his finger. "You have no idea, what a scare you gave me. By the way, let me introduce myself. I'm Preet...Preet Juneja, the 4th of 5 children of the great hotelier Lalit Juneja. I'm an advertising executive by trade, and a huge Chicago Cubs fan. But you can just call me Papa".

The End

And thus concludes this little journey of Meet. Hope you all enjoyed it. I'd like to thank everyone who took the time out to read the SS, and everyone who left supportive comments and hit the like button. Loads of love to you all...Dil Se...
