How long has it been since I updated? 😆 Ages no? I'm sorry about that. I hadn't forgotten about this! I was just focusing on DTHM, and since that is now completed, this will be my focus. Kinda. I've got a few oneshot ides that I will also be writing on the side. 😉

Now, I'll post a recap for what happened in the last part, and then the new part, which I hope you will enjoy!

She opened her eyes to find herself drowning in smouldering, dark, chocolate brown eyes, her face inches from his. The flowers from the thali were still falling around them. A sudden gust of wind blew the red dupatta in the pandit's hands away from him, landing on and covering the couple, who were lost in each other's eyes. The dupatta had been meant to enshroud the idols of Ram and Sita, and the flowers had been meant for a similar purpose, instead, it was Prem and Heer who were blanketed by the dupatta and who had flowers raining on them.

The significance of the moment was not lost on the spectators, who were gaping in shock at the scene. The Maan and Juneja siblings' were all re-evaluating their opinions of the arranged jodi, having overheard the pandit's awed declaration that the couple had been blessed by God Himself. They really were meant for each other.

Part 6

"Heer beta."

"Ji?"

Teji smiled at her daughter, who looked flustered, sitting with her (now official) fiance. "Zara mithai le kar aana."

"Ji."
Heer hurriedly got up, fiddling with her dupatta. Mahek sent her an amused glance when she noticed, to which Heer made a slight face and let go of the cloth. She missed Prem getting up, giving the excuse of getting water, and the looks exchanged by the youngsters.

She took her time setting the plate, and didn't notice Prem standing at the door, just drinking in the sight of her. Prem couldn't help but wonder just how this little slip of a woman, beautiful though she may be, had so easily in one meeting made a place for herself in not just his life, but in his heart as well.

He approached her from behind, and as she reached for the mithai plate, he stretched his hand as well. He enveloped her smaller hand with his. Heer stiffened at this action, her breath catching. Prem, in a sort of daze, trailed his thumb down the side of her hand, though his grip on hers never faltered, taking in the way she shivered. She looked over her shoulder at him, and this movement caused him to look up. Their eyes locked, and he took in the way she was biting her lip nervously, the way she was looking up at him through her eyelashes, the way her cheeks glowed rosy pink but all the while she never once tried to take her hand out of his.

Heer marvelled at how easily Prem had captured her hand, how calm he seemed caressing it, how unaffected - no, he wasn't unaffected, his eyes showed just how affected he was by their closeness. But most of all she marvelled at how right it felt, how well her hand fit in his.

"Heer Di!" Meher called from the door, bursting the bubble surrounding the pair, who embarrassedly separated and stuttered excuses. Trying to stifle her giggles, Meher apologised, though she wasn't sorry, something Preet, who had followed her could tell.

"So, Miss Attitude, props for embarrassing PB and Heer Bhabhi,"
Preet smirked at Meher once the aforementioned had hastily left the kitchen.

Meher warily added her adversary (as she had labelled him). "Thanks. I think."

"Oh, it was a compliment,"
Preet informed her as he got himself a glass of water, but as he exited, he continued, "the first and last you will receive from me."

Meher was left there in absolute confusion over the conversation that had just taken place.

A short while later, the Junejas decided that it was time to leave. Gayatri had to drag her husband away from his best friend, exchanging amusedly exasperated looks with Teji.

The way back to their new house was spent with only Lalit chattering excitedly, Gayatri responding at the appropriate places. By the second word, Preet had tuned his father out. Instead, he observed his siblings. PB was staring out the window, grinning goofily. Preet was definitely going to keep his mistake of attempting to flirt with Bhabhi from Bhaiyya. He'd kill him, and Preet knew Harman Bhai would be no help. He and Veera would probably bring out the popcorn! Preet shuddered at the thought.

He turned to look at Harman Bhai, who was clenching an unclenching his fists. Preet knew Harman Bhai was itching to grab his sketchbook and pencils to draw the outside scenery, as well as to capture the moments that had passed. But they all knew the consequences of Harman Bhai attempting to sketch in a moving vehicle. It involved fidgeting, getting poked and lots of yelling.

Compared to his brothers, his sister was not as interesting to observe as she was half-asleep against his shoulder. She jerked awake as the car came to a stop. Gayatri looked at the house in confusion.

"Par maine toh sarey lights band ki thi,"
she informed her husband. He laughed it off, telling her that she must have forgotten in old age. The excited squeal that came from Veera as she bounded out of the care and into the waiting arms of Kulraj, her exhaustion forgotten, told them that he was wrong.

"Kulraj, tum?"
Lalit beamed at his eldest child, embracing her warmly. The glow on everyone's faces as they met her was evident. Preet gave a cheeky grin at his sister after extracting important information on the whereabouts of her children before running into the house like a kid himself. While everyone talked over one another, telling Kulraj Di about the Maans' and their day with them, Preet started instructing his 'minions' on the trouble he wanted them to give Ms Attitude.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A more serious discussion was taking place at the Maans'. Ash had sit her family down and was currently pacing the room, wringing her hands as she conveyed the message she had gotten from Manmeet earlier.
"He was so troubled Badi Ma,"
she bit her lip. "And considering what he said, it was no wonder."
"Par yeh sab humare Heer ki khushi ke peeche kyun pade hai?"
Balraj questioned angrily. "Humari Heer ne uske kya bigada hai?"
"For money, Papaji,"
Shaurya said stonily. Mahek looked worriedly at him. He was hurt, she knew, that his parents had not changed one bit. "They want the land and money, and they will do anything to obtain it."
"But to destroy Di's life and reputation?"
Meher asked. "That's not just cruel, it's inhumane!"
Heer finally spoke up. "Manmeet has helped us a lot by telling us what they have planned. We should waste time. We should tell Lalit Chacha Ji and his family everything." She looked at her family. "Get everything in the open first."
Balraj nodded. "Yeh theek rahega."
They split up then, bidding one another good night. Mahek was worried, knowing Shaurya was suffering silently. He would not tell anyone, but she knew he still retained hope that his parents would change for the better.
She grabbed his hand as he exited the bathroom, still silent and blank. "Shaurya, stop blaming yourself. What they do has no reflection on you."
He glanced at his wife, finally showing some emotion. It broke her heart to see him so defeated. She squeezed his hand lightly and smiled encouragingly. He gave her a brief hug. "Thank you, for everything." He smiled slightly. "For always being here."
"I have to be,"
she made a face. "We're stuck together for life."
He groaned theatrically and threw himself on the bed. Outraged, she squealed and flung a pillow at him, though it warmed her heart to hear his laughter.
