Yo! I only just finished the part today, and it's not the best I've ever written, but it's all I got. Personally I loved the beginning and the end, but the PremHeer bit could have been better. But oh well, it's done, and hopefully I get more comfortable writing this FF again. 😆 Anywho, here's part 7. Enjoy!

Oh, and I've updated the third character sketch with the entry of this new character. 😉

Part 7

Nobody expected to wake up the following morning to a yell. (Okay, they did, but this particular yell was unexpected.) Preet's bellow of "Bauji!" tore through the entire house and had everyone running out into the hallway, tripping over themselves in their haste to see how the tables had turned. Seeing Preet, soaking, milk pooling on the floor around him sent them all into fits of laughter.

"Kya baat hai? Inna chila kyuna rahe ho?"
Lalit asked, folding his arms across his chest.
"Baat kya hai?"
Preet repeated incredulously. "Baat kya hai? Bauji, I'm drenched in cow's milk and you're asking me what the matter is?"

The others stifled their laughter unsuccessfully. "Toh? Iss mein tu maine kyu bulanda hai?" Lalit queried. "And it's goat's milk beta." He smirked, and once again it was made obvious exactly whose father he was.

Preet made a face. "Bauji, aap-" he paused before grinning. "Not bad. But of course, baap kiske ho?" He pulled up his collar.

"Prem ka,"
Lalit replied drily. Preet's face fell and he turned to his mother to complain. She managed to contain her giggles for long enough to send everyone to get ready; they were to meet the Maans' again.

Lalit and Gayatri were ferried away the moment the set foot in the Maans' house; the adults wanted to set the wedding as soon as possible. Shaurya and Mahek invited Prem to accompany them and Heer out. Preet had the suspicion that there was something more serious afoot, and he would find out later that he was right. But at the moment he was prepping his 'minions' for their first attack on Ms Attitude. He thanked the gods when Ashlesha offered to take Veera and Kulraj Di shopping. Gautam was more likely to misbehave when his mother was not around. Meher opted to stay at home, surprisingly striking up an easy conversation with Harman Bhai.

He made his first move. Rishi approached Meher cautiously, and tugged at her salwar. The friendly manner in which she addressed him disarmed Rishi, who forgot what he was supposed to do, and instead smiled shyly at Meher around his thumb. Preet and Tannu made identical faces, which would have amused anyone observing them. As it was, there was no one there. Gautam was sent to remind his brother of the plan. Preet knew Gautam would not defect, having just entered his 'girls are yucky' phase. Preet was thus using it to his advantage.

"Aunty,"
Gautam said innocently. Preet saw the disgruntled look that flashed momentarily on Meher's face at being addressed as such. "I'm hungry."

"What would you like?"
Meher asked sweetly.

"Pa'cake!" Rishi chirped up before Gautam could say anything. Gautam made a face. "Waffles," he argued. Meher watched helplessly as the two began to bicker, resulting in tears on Rishi's part. Preet smirked.

Harman stepped in to save Meher, for which she threw him a grateful look. She managed to convince the boys to have cookies instead. The frown that had crossed Preet's handsome (if he did say so himself) face as a result of his brother's intervention was replaced by mischief when he realised that the cookies had chocolate in them. Tannu joyfully joined her brothers in eating them.

Five minutes had the three of them running around the living room, jumping off the couch and giggling insanely. Preet's amusement at Meher's frustration soon turned to horror as Rishi began to bug him for chocolate, threatening tears if he did not get them. He failed to see Meher's grin as he tried to calm his nephew down. He even tried to persuade Gautam to pull Rishi away, but it was to no avail. He managed to foist Gautam on Meher instead. Tannu very smartly chose to remain uninvolved as she assessed the situation. She then mentioned something to both her brothers that had them pause. All three of them came to stand in front of the two young adults that had attempted to use them as pawns. Harman, Preet noticed, had removed himself entirely from the situation and had engrossed himself with his sketchbook.

Tannu crossed her arms over her chest. The boys followed suit. Preet and Meher exchanged glances before realising just who the other was.

"Mammu,"
Tannu began. "We have decided that we are not going to help you."

Preet opened his mouth in protest, but quelled under Tannu's glare. Meher snickered.

"Your plan was good,"
she continued. "But considering how fast Didi" Meher smiled. "turned Rishi against you, it'd be so much better if the two of you work together."

They made faces, glaring at one another. Exasperated, Tannu rolled her eyes.

"You're not seeing the bigger picture. You're both good at this separately, imagine what you could do together. Aap toh hamesha kehte hai, kabhi kabhi results pane ke liye hume woh karna parta hai jo humko pasand nahi. Kyun Mammu?"

Preet pouted childishly before turning to face Meher. "What say, Ms Attitude?" He raised his eyebrows. "We don't have to like one another, but the kids have a point."

Meher weighed her options. She sighed in resignation and Preet grinned. "This does not mean I'm letting you off," she warned.

Kulraj was horrified when she came back and saw her kids wreaking havoc, her younger brother doing nothing to stop them. Meher managed to put all the blame on Preet, smirking cheekily at him as he glared at her.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Heer and Prem walked down the street in silence. Shaurya had informed Prem of what they had learnt the day before, and Prem had taken it all in silently. Mahek had then pulled her husband away, wanting to give the other couple some time to talk. But neither knew how to broach the subject. Prem looked up in relief when he heard someone call his name.
"Arre Manmeet!"
He greeted the other man joyfully. Heer looked on, shocked. Prem and Manmeet knew one another? Her confusion was addressed when Prem turned to introduce the two, and playfully addressed Manmeet as his 'saviour'. Heer's discomfort and Manmeet's genuine shock did not go unnoticed by his sharp eyes, even as they tried to hide it.
"Aap dono ek dusre ko jaante ho?"
"Woh kya hai-"
Manmeet interrupted her.
"Mera parivaar iski zindagi barbad karna chahte hai,"
he stated bluntly. Prem's eyes widened.
"Matlab tum voh shaks ho jisne Ashlesha ko warn kiya?"
The way he addressed the topic surprised Manmeet even further. Rather than anger or disgust, Prem went on to thank Manmeet for saving his and Heer's relationship, despite having to go against his family in order to do it. Heer followed suit, cheeks stained pink at Prem's ease at addressing their relation.
"You will come for our wedding right?"
Prem asked, grinning slightly. "You are the first friend I made in India."
Manmeet smiled and assured him that he would be there. As they left for their destination, Manmeet decided that it was high time he re-evaluate his choices. Maybe he could be free from his family's clutches.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The next few days were a bustle of activity. Everyone was eagerly preparing for Prem and Heer's wedding despite the fact that it had been set for about four months away. Balraj and Lalit had decided to throw a huge engagement part that week itself, and everyone had been roped in to help. Teji had convinced Gayatri to hire the events co-ordinator they had hired for Shaurya and Mahek's reception, which lessened their load somewhat, but both still wanted to be involved in the preparations and so had taken to helping the organiser.

"Tu yahaan baitha hai, araam se, jaise koi kaam hi nahi."

A sarcastic voice brought Harman to reality. He'd been doodling absently in his book, and the drawing had taken on a life of its own such that he had become engrossed in trying to capture the fire in Meher's eyes as she argued and the mischievous tilt of Preet's lips as he retorted. The owner of the voice stood with her hands on her hips, frowning at him.

"Ji?"

"Ji, matlab? Main tujhse baat kar rahi hoon. Tumhe paise nahin milte yaha baithne ke liye. Chalo, woh phool waha se waha lagao."
She indicated what she wanted done.

Bemused, Harman followed her instructions. It was obvious she had no idea who he was, and if Harman could have gotten a word in otherwise, he would have informed her that he was not, in fact, one of the workers. But her energy and vivacity drew his attention away from that thought and onto the work she set him to.

"Harman beta, tu yeh kaam kyun kar raha hai?"
Gayatri approached the two. Out of the corner of his eye, Harman saw the girl start and mouth the 'beta?' in confusion.

"Ma, inko madad ki zaroorat si, toh maine madad ki."
Harman shrugged easily, amused as the girl coloured in embarrassment.

"Mrs Juneja, yeh aapka beta hai?"
She looked highly embarrassed.

"Haan,"
Gayatri smiled proudly. "Yeh Harman hai, mera duja beta." A call from the other room caught her attention, and reminding Harman that he was to call his father, she wandered off to help Teji with the selection of clothes and jewellery.

"Tumne bataya nahi ke tum,"
she trailed off.

"Batane ka mauka nahi miliya,"
Harman responded drily. "Lekin ab toh aapko pata hai, par mujhe ab tak nahi pata ke aap kaun hai."

She tucked her hair behind her ear and straightened. "Nisha Agarwal, events co-ordinator."

"Nice to meet you, Nisha Agarwal, events co-ordinator."
He chuckled as she made a face at him and grabbed the drapes out of his hands before stalking off. He settled himself down again and picked up his book, his eyes still on her form. A smile played at his lips as he turned to a fresh page. Things were going to get interesting leading up to the wedding. He began to outline a pair of dark eyes.

Wheee I'm back! Oh gosh you must be like so pissed off at your dad...*offers a sympathetic hug 🤗* Ooh if it makes you feel better, I have this urge to make chocolate chip muffins soon! I can just imagine them...golden brown domed tops...soft fluffy inside...I'm drooling just thinking about it.
I didn't mention this when I beta-ed it, but the milk part was so cute! I can just imagine Preet like that, covered in milk and standing there so annoyed and embarrassed...😍
Ohmigosh the kids are so adorable! Tannu is just the sweetest! She seriously seems like the oldest to me, what with her wisdom (I was this close to saying 'wise-ness') and her sobriety...It was funny...Like, her brothers are getting so high over the chocolate and she's just sitting there quietly...Reminds me of the time I was at a rehearsal and someone brought out vodka and Ribena...Just FYI, I did not drink. But I was very very amused...!
Try not to stay too mad at your dad, and remember your punching bag is like, an SMS away! 😆
Love,
Bhav (:
