Part 7

After Milind and Neev's laughter subsided, Milind extended his hand and said "Hello, I m Milind". Prachi took his hand to introduce herself "and I m Prachi par main paagal nahi hoon" looking at Neev, as he had introduced her as his paagal dost. "Friends??" asked Milind. "ofcourse, Neev ka dost mera dost" she smiled. Milind laughed again...Neev looked at Milind in surprise, Milind was not one of those who laughed out aloud. Ofcourse he was not stiff but he would just smile, to get a laugh out of him required lot of work. Maybe he is just happy to finally meet Prachi who would help him find his pari, he thought. Little did he know that the girl with whom Milind had fallen head over heels in love was standing right in front of him. Neev saw his father waving towards him "Tum dono baatein karo, main abhi aaya" saying he left his friends alone.

Prachi raised her eyebrows and looked intensly at Milind "Can I have my hand back plz??" Milind looked surprised and lowered his eyes to see that he was still holding her hand. With much reluctance he let go. His hand felt still warm where Prachi's fingers had touched his and he brought his hand close to his face to smell the sweet frangrace Prachi's touch had left on his hand. He was so elated. He couldn't remember the last time he was this happy.

Prachi blushed as she got her hand back and not wanting to make it so obvious, she asked him to come join her and others around the fire. She felt a weird knot in her stomach but decided to ignore it. Milind happily followed her towards the bonfire. Prachi showed him how they were supposed to put some peanuts n popcorn in the fire. Milind was more than happy to follow Prachi like a puppet. Then soon everybody started dancing around the bonfire. Prachi and Neev started to dance but Milind refused. He just stood by the fire looking at his friends dancing and laughing at the tunes of Bhangra. Prachi would now and then steal glances at Milind and was surprised to see Milind looking keenly at her. His eyes were fixated on her, even though when their eyes would meet, Milind would not look away and Prachi would be forced to break her gaze. Milind knew exactly when Prachi would look at him admiring him and then turn her back as if she was just changing her step of dance and not paying him any attention but he knew she was checking him out and it brought a smile on his face.

Not able to bear his eyes anymore, Prachi went towards Milind and pulled him forward to dance. "comeon...have some fun, don't just stand there staring at us" She said. Milind looked at her and then at his hand which was in Prachi's grasp once again as she pulled him towards her and started dancing once again. Neev came to join his two friends. They were all dancing hand in hand smiling and then when Prachi tried to move away from Milind she couldn't as her bangles were stuck in Milind's kurta. Prachi looked impatiently at Milind with her eyes as if asking him to get her free from the situation. Milind silently thanked the tailor who did the embriodery on the kurta because of whom they were in this situation. Milind slowly got her bangles untangled all the while looking at her. It took a lot of strength for Prachi not to look in those dark eyes again. She knew if she did, she would be lost in them.
As soon as Prachi got free, she moved back taking quick long steps in an attempt to move as far away from Milind as possible. She didn't know what was wrong with her today. Why did her heart keep beating so fast and her stomach fluttering? She just cursed herself for allowing this to happen.

Soon all the guests were ready to leave. All the elders went inside as it was getting chilly leaving the youngters outside sitting by the fire engrossed with their chatting. Neev was now telling Prachi how he met Milind in US and they have been best of friends for the last 4 years now. Purvi(Neev's sister) and Saumya were discussing about their dresses. Milind sat quietly along with the rest of the group. He would keep stealing glances at Prachi. Prachi could feel the heat of his eyes whenever he look at her but she completely avoided looking at him.

"Prachi,I need ur help, actually we need ur help" Neev said.
"Haan bolo, Neev" asked a very tired Prachi, stretching her legs.
"U have to help Milind look for somebody" Neev replied.
Milind was shocked when he heard Neev say that. He was so busy admiring his Pari that he had forgotten to tell Neev that he had found what his eyes were looking for. "He finally fell for some girl and doesn't know anything about her but she lives in our neighbourhood so I thought if u could help him look for her " Continued Neev.
Prachi felt something break inside her. He liked some other girl?? Then why the hell was he looking at me the whole evening?? What does he think of himself? Prachi was disgusted with herself. She felt sick to her stomach. She had secretly enjoyed all the attention Milind gave her. Suddenly all the color disappeared from her face as she went pale.
"bolo Prachi, will u help us???" Neev asked again.
"You guys r my friends, so anything for a friend" She said with pain but before Neev could give her any details Milind quickly changed the subject "Its getting cold, shouldn't we guys be going now?? I don't want to catch a cold."

Once they waved goodbyes to Shahs, Milind hit Neev on the shoulder "Paagal ho gaya tha kya?? Prachi ko abhi sab kuch batane ki kya zaroorat thi??"
"Aree Milind, I thought the quicker we find the girl, the better" said Neev rubbing his shoulder.
"I already found her" Milind said with a smile. "What??? and u r telling me now??" Neev frowned. "Aree mujhse to milwa deta use, main bhi dekhun kon hai woh jisne mere dost ke hosh uda diye hain???" Neev said teasing Milind.

"Tu usko jaanta hai"
Now Neev looked at his friend with surprised eyes. "Comeone now don't beat around the bush, I m not playing the guessing game. So tell me who is it???"

"Prachi" Milind said running his hand in his hair.
"What??? my Prachi is ur Pari??" Neev looked at Milind in disbelief.
Milind didn't like the sound of My Prachi. But he replied calmly, "Yes prachi is the girl, whom I have fallen in love with"
Neev couldn't believe his ears. He hugged Milind. "I m so happy for u. My two best friends in love with each other. Why didn't u tell her???"
"Aree paagal, I just met her" Milind gave Neev a smack on his head "moreover I don't know what she feels for me." he clarified.
"ok..ok...I know but if u don't tell her, how will u know what she feels for u??" Neev tried putting some sense into his friend.
Milind looked angrily at Neev "Why haven't u told Ayesha about ur feelings and you two have known eachother for 4 yrs now. Huh??? Plus I m a little scared of Prachi. If she gets mad, she will be shouting nonstop. I have to wait and see what she feels before I tell her anything."
Neev smiled and thought Milind is right. He doesn't know what Prachi's feeling are. He has known her forever but he was as clueless about this as Milind.

Prachi on the other hand didn't have anyone with whom she could share her evening. She thought of talking with Saumya but then decided against it. There was nothing to talk. She had misinterpreted Milind. He liked somebody else and just needed her help. How could she even think that a good catch like him could fall for a simple girl like her?? She just had gotten her hopes too high. It was a good thing she was back to reality sooner than later. With these thoughts she closed her eyes and quickly fell asleep as the tiredness of the day took over.
