Their main reason for getting married again?"Our wedding was very boring!" laughs Teejay. "I think the reception had to be the most boring party ever! We had a lot of relatives here so we did it the complete
Marwadi way. There was no alcohol and no dancing! My parents were like 'this reception is very quiet'- boring!" Manoj's reason for wedding number 2 is because "Teejay's family is based in Vancouver and we also have a lot of relatives in the US. There were a lot of people from her side who weren't able to make it to the wedding in Mumbai so we decided to celebrate there as well"
The wedding will be held on the 21st of April and will be mainly a family affair. "I don't think anyone from the industry will make it. People find it difficult to travel to Delhi or Bangalore for an occasion so I don't think they're going to get their passports ready and book tickets all the way to Canada. However Ashmit Patel said he would try to make it" says the husband turned groom to be.
Teejay's father is a prominent member of the Punjabi community in Vancouver and being the eldest of six children she says, "It's really important to us since this is the first wedding in my family. It's going to be big! All my childhood friends are there so we're really looking forward to it. It won't be a long wedding ceremony. It's going to start in the morning and be over by noon. Just in time for lunch which is very important!"
The wedding reception will be different from the one they held at Blue Sea in Mumbai and certainly more exciting: "The evening reception will be full on! I'm looking forward to giving speeches, having a first dance with Manoj and the cake cutting ceremony. Weddings over there are very different from here. There, the western style of weddings is also amalgamated with Indian traditions. I would have loved to give a speech on my wedding day in Mumbai saying how much I love Manoj saying how we met but when I asked I got a flat out no!
"For our first wedding, Manoj and I just stood on a stage and greeted people for hours on end. The guests come, deposit their money and gifts and they go. I was looking forward to spending time with the people there but by the time that wound up there was no one left! We just had dinner with family members who were remaining and went home. We did that mainly for the family and relatives. Actually only for the family and relatives!
"By the end of it my face was frozen and my legs couldn't move!" said Teejay.
The bride and groom will be dressed in traditional Punjabi outfits. Teejay will be wearing a red and gold
Lenga while Manoj will be dressed in a gold Sherwani. Manoj says of their attires "My one and only wife will be making both our outfits and it's going to be very traditional."
The couple waited to have a second ceremony because they "got married in November and it was too cold to go abroad so we waited. We were also very busy. We started working almost immediately after the marriage."
"We've had a
Marwadi wedding and a South Indian wedding. Now it's time for a big Punjabi wedding! I've been there once so I have no idea about the location but I'm looking forward to it. It's going to be full of bhangra and dhol" says Manoj.
Their first wedding ceremony was held Bangalore at the art of living institute. They were invited by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar who suggested they have the ceremony there. "We immediately agreed. They organized everything. It's funny because Manoj is from Rajasthan and I'm from Punjab and we had a South Indian ceremony. I was wearing a south Indian
mangalsutra and everyone was saying 'you don't look south Indian!'
It was a small ceremony of about 30 people. I think a wedding ceremony should have only the people who genuinely want to wish you like family and close friends. People who want you to get married. Among my friends present were Ashmit Patel and Kim Jagtiani. The rest were family and relatives."
Will there be a second honeymoon as well?"We haven't really gone for a honeymoon as yet. We went to Goa for a few days after our marriage. When we got to the room he had ordered champagne and flowers which was very sweet. The whole experience was very romantic. We made sure we weren't doing any shows or work so we had each other all to ourselves for five days.
We plan on going to Greece this time. I want to take Manoj to Europe to see its culture and history"
The couple currently have lots on their plate with their play "Crazy About Love" that's going on. They plan to take it abroad in June. Meanwhile Manoj has signed the movie Fame with Suniel Shetty.
"Manoj has never said I'm quitting television for films because that is just silly. In the end it boils down to acting but it's just different mediums. He has never said 'I have plans in the pipeline' and 'talks are on for projects'. He was honest enough to say he has no plans after leaving
Kausati. Within two weeks he was offered this movie and I told him 'Hey they found out you were jobless'!" says Teejay lightheartedly.
