Singer Chinmayi Sripada threatened with a morphed nude pic of hers: 'Children have been given death threats…'

Singer and dubbing artist Chinmayi Sripada received a morphed nude picture of herself on Wednesday evening, which she described as a "screaming nightmare". She promptly took to social media to report the incident to the Commissioner of the Hyderabad City Police, VC Sajjanar, and shared a video detailing the constant online threats she's faced in recent weeks.

Chinmayi reveals being threatened

In her video, Chinmayi expressed her frustration and distress, stating that she's been receiving threatening messages and morphed images since speaking out against certain individuals. She urged the police to take action against the perpetrators and emphasized the need for women to be able to express themselves freely without fear of online harassment.

Chinmayi Sripada revealed that her husband, filmmaker-actor Rahul Ravindran, had commented on mangalasutra a few weeks ago, which she believes triggered a surge in online trolling and harassed her and her family. She shared a morphed image and a video on social media, expressing her distress and frustration, and stating that she's been receiving threatening messages and images since her husband's comment.

Chinmayi on being abused

I got a morphed image from a page today and tagged the cops - whether legal action happen will happen or not is not the issue.

In her post, Chinmayi wrote, I'm tired of this kind of behavior and threats. Women deserve better in Telangana. If they don't like my opinion, they can unfollow me. I'm ready to file a complaint, even if it takes 15 years.

She stated in the video, I have been abused, my children have been given death threats, I have filed a police complaint against a few on the Twitter Spaces who said that the kind of women they don’t like shouldn’t ever have children, and if they do, their children must die. There were men applauding and laughing at this.

Highlighting the rise of deepfakes and AI

Chinmayi mentioned she has been targeted online since speaking out about harassment from a lyricist. A lot of people have abused me; they have been paid for by political groups. There was a particular Tweet today that shared a morphed photo of me in the nude. I am sharing so women know these kinds of things happen, men do this to push us out of public spaces, she said.

Highlighting the rise of deepfakes and AI, which could lead to more women facing such threats, the singer declared, "I am not the kind of woman who is shamed by this." She urged women, girls, and parents to take legal action if they experience similar situations.
