Part 24:

Muskaan patiently waits for Vinod and his friends to leave. After hearing their chatter die out, she draws to the conclusion that they have all left. She quickly unties her feet and gets up, ignoring her cramping legs. Before opening the wooden door, she prays to god to let the door be open. She curses under her breath when she turns the doorknob and it stops midway, indicating that the door is locked. Muskaan exams the room, frustrated. She then glances down to the floor, and looks at the tiny bar of light coming from the door. Something shiny catches her attention and she bends down onto the floor to see what it is. A thankful smile emerges on her face, when she sees a key. Her fingers trace the keyhole in the doorknob, and then she places the key into the hole, unlocking the door. She sucks in her breath when she slowly, gently opens the door, making sure it doesn't creak. Her eyes travel down the hallway, seeing no one in sight. Muskaan closes the door behind her and quickly paces down the hallway. She turns a left and finds a huge metal door in front of her. Relieved, she opens it and is happy to see the dark outdoors after four long tormenting days. At last she was free, Muskaan quickly runs down the dimly lit pathway. She stops in her tracks, frightened, when she feels a strong grip on her wrist, preventing her to make another step. "where do you think you're going?!," someone angrily questions her.

Suraj: Don't worry, Vijay, the police are doing their job. Muskaan will be found very soon.

Vijay's brother says to him at the front of his house.

Pooja: Have faith in God, Vijay.

Vijay rolls his eyes as his bhabi says this. He did not believe in God whatsoever, and he never will.

Vijay: acha, bhaiya…bhabi. I'll leave.
Pooja: Take care of yourself.
Vijay: (forces a smile) I will.

As Vijay begins to walk down the long driveway, a car pulls up and parks right next to him. The three girls, rano, pia, and bani step out of the car and look at Vijay.

Bani could tell that he was in some kind of tension, the way he looked at bani, no reaction on his face, and proceeded to walk down the driveway, sulking. Pia and rano shrug their shoulders and walk to the house. Bani continues to watch Vijay, walking down the driveway. All her anger washed away when she saw Vijay's depressed looking face,…she wanted to help him. Vijay was still and always still going to be her friend. "Vijay!!! Wait, Vijay!," bani calls after him, trying to catch up to him.

Vijay turns around, seeing bani running towards him. He becomes puzzled.

Bani: (breathless) Vijay…
Vijay: (not saying anything)
Bani: Vijay? (worried) Is something wrong?

Vijay narrows his eyebrows, eyeing bani suspiciously. "Why does she care about me all of a sudden? ," he thinks to himself. He looks away from bani and stares at the ground, with his hands resting in his jean pockets.

Bani: Vijay? I've noticed that you seem a bit tensed. What's wrong? (places her hand on his shoulder)

Vijay turns back around and eyes bani's hand, resting on his shoulder. He brushes it off. Bani is surprised by this gesture of his.

Bani: (thinks that he's upset about her marriage) look Vijay, if this is about me marrying jai, then I am sorry if it hurts you, but I am very happy with marrying Jai. I love him. You need to move on, Vijay, because I don't love y-
Vijay: (pissed) Why do you think that this is about you, Hm???? Does everything have to revolve around you, bani?! sorry to inform you, but everything doesn't revolve around you!!
Bani: (taken aback, but also becomes equally angry) Well I don't know what other reason you would be upset about!!! God, sorry that I was just trying to find out what was wrong with my friend!

Vijay looks at bani, all his anger washes away. He begins to feel relieved. "We're still friends?…," he thinks hopefully.

Vijay: (runs his fingers through his hair) I'm sorry bani, I didn't mean to yell at you. I'm just upset about something else.
Bani: (her anger is replaced with worry) What is it?
Vijay: (long pause) bani…I'm sorry….for everything. I never meant to hurt you, and I regret having to.
Bani: (interrupts him) It's ok, Vijay. I've forgotten all that now. You're still my friend and always will be, and to tell you the truth,…I miss having my friend around. (she smiles innocently)
Vijay: (returns the smile) Me too….I won't lie to you and tell you that I'm alright with you marrying Jai Walia, but I also won't tell you that I'm angry because that is also not true. But since you're happy,…then I'm happy. All I want is to see you happy all the time, bani.
Bani: (touched)…Thank you, Vijay. And I'm sorry for ignoring you the past couple of months.
Vijay: It's ok. I really don't mind, u had every right to be angry with me.

There is a long and silent pause after Vijay says this. The two look at each other awkwardly, not knowing what else to say.

Bani: (breaking the silence) So,…are you coming to my wedding?? …I mean, you don't have to-
Vijay: (cuts her off) I definitely will come to it. It's my friend's wedding,…why wouldn't I come? (he says while trying to hide his pain)

Out of happiness, bani hugs a bewildered Vijay.

Bani: Thank you, Vijay!

He gives her an awkward smile.

Vijay: I guess I'll leave now.
Bani: (a little disappointed) oh, ok. Well I thought we'd talk a while, catch up in each other's lives.
Vijay: (smiles) uh,…I have some business to handle right now, ..maybe some other time.
Bani: Ok.

Vijay gives on last glance towards bani, before sitting inside of his car. He turns on the car's engine and reverses out of the driveway. Bani watches Vijay drive down the street and go out of sight. She crosses her arms across her chest. "Finally…everything's ok between us..," she says happily to herself.

Muskaan turns around and immediately recognizes the man who has stopped her. Akshay, Vinod's best friend, stared at Muskaan with his questioning face.

Akshay: Where do you think you're going, Muskaan? (he repeats)

Muskaan is speechless and just stares at Akshay with fear in her eyes.

Akshay: How did you get loose?!
Muskaan: (silent)
Akshay: You were trying to run away?! You are lucky that I stayed behind instead of Vinod! You know that?! If Vinod was here, …do you know what he would have done to you?!

Silent tears roll down her face and Akshay continues to yell at Muskaan. He yanks her by her arm, dragging her back inside the hideout. She begins to struggle, fighting back.

Muskaan: (pleads) please, Akshay! Don't do this to me! (she cries) Let me go, please! I haven't done anything wrong to deserve this!!

He stops in his tracks and looks back at crying Muskaan, his hand still holding onto her wrist. Muskaan folds her hands in front of her, and begins to beg.

Muskaan: please! Let me go!!! (she sobs)

Akshay looks at her, feeling guilty. Muskaan stops trying to free herself from Akshay's grasp when he himself lets go of her. She looks at him, completely surprised.

Vijay takes another gulp of beer and sets it back down onto the counter. He thinks about his encounter with Bani today. It was strange, but he did not feel any kind of attraction towards bani today. Usually her beauty would make his heart skip a beat, make him weak in the knees, but today when he saw her, there were no sparks anymore. There was no flame anymore. Vijay didn't feel anything towards her, nothing at all. He takes another sip of his beer, but sees that it is empty. Vijay sets the glass down and reaches into his coat pocket for his wallet. He sets money down next to his empty glass and exits the bar, ready to go home, but he not wanting to go back into his lonely house. He would miss Muskaan even more. Every corner of his house reminded him of Muskaan, he grew so attached to her and was so used to her being around the house the last three weeks. It would feel very odd to enter his house, not being greeted by Muskaan's happy greetings and having the dinner set out on the table. As he sits in the driver seat, his fingers wrap around the steering wheel. Vijay rests his head against the back of the seat and closes his eyes. "Where are you, Muskaan?…," he thinks desperately to himself.

sorry if u guys didn't like this part and thought that it was lame. Will make the next part better for you guys... 😊
