PART 24

On reaching Walia House they are greeted warmly by the whole family! Jigs hugs her brother but fails to acknowledge Bani's presence. Bani is a little surprised!! Before leaving for Scotland Jigs had at least been cordial towards her!!

She soon found out the reason for Jigyaasa's displeasure!!

Adi: Bani! Maine kaha tha na ke tumhaare liye ek surprise hai?!

He moves to the side and Bani's smile fades as she sees Rano and Saahil standing behind him!! The rest of the family has gone quiet, waiting for her reaction.

Rano: Di…?

Bani: Don't Rano… just don't.

Jai and the rest of the family exchange anxious looks with each other as Jigyaasa watches in displeasure, an angry smirk on her face. It is quite evident that however much Bani's supposed death had mellowed her a little, her hatred for Rano had not lessened.

Jai: Bani… tum Rano ko-

Bani: Tony, tum please yeh sab samaan rakhvaado! Mein abhi aayi…

She hurries upstairs without a second glance at anyone else and the uncomfortable silence is interrupted only by Rano's muffled sniffs. It was clear that her Banidi had still not forgiven her for eloping with Saahil.

Saahil takes her hand and goes towards Jai.

Saahil: Mamaji, aashirwaad nahin doge?

Jai places hand on both their heads and looks at Rano. He knew that his youngest saali had always disliked him, not that she could be blamed for it after his own behaviour!!

Jai: Rano, tum fikar mat karo, usse kabhi to maanjaana hoga na?! Badi behen hai voh tumhari! Don't worry, me usse aaj hi baat karoonga.

Rano looks at Jai with a newfound respect and gives him a shaky smile.

Dadi: Jao puttar, jaake aaram karo ab, safar ke baad thak gaye honge! Aur Rano-Saahil tum bhi apne kamre mein jao, subah baat karenge.

Jai goes upstairs and walks towards his bedroom. He goes to open the door and stops at the sound of the stifled sobs coming from inside. He slowly opens the door and sees Bani sitting on the bed with her back towards him, crying softly. He walks over and sits down next to her. She turns away and unsuccessfully tries to hide her tears.

Jai: Yeh kya bachpana hai Bani – tum yaha ro rahi ho, aur voh Rano apne kamre me ro rahi hai. Ab jo hua so hua, yeh berukhi chhod do! Aakhir voh tumhaari chhoti bahen hai!!

Bani: Agar Pia aur Pushkar ke shaadi ke kuch hi der baad maine aap se kaha hota ke aap Pushkar ko maaf karde, apna gussa thoonk de, to kya aap unhe maaf kardete???

Jai cannot answer her – he knows she has a point!

Bani: Jab Pia aur Pushkar bhaag gaye the to aapko kitni taqleef hui thi ye maine dekha tha.

Jai: Bani tum jaanti ho ke mera Pia par gussa sirf issi liye tha kyun ke usne mere ego ko hurt kiya tha.

Bani: Me Pia ki baat nahin kar rahi Jai. Haan usne aapki ego ko hurt kiya tha, lekin me jaanti hoon ke Pushkar ne aap ka dil toda tha.

Jis ko aap ne bete ki tarha maan kar bada kiya, apna maana, unhi ne aap ko dhoka diya tha. Haan aaj sab kuch theek ho chuka hai, lekin aaj tak ke safar me kitni taqleefe mili he hum sab ko kya aap bhoolchuke?

Mujhe laga tha kam se kam aap mujhe samajh payenge….

Jis chhoti behen ko maine apne dil se laga kar badaa kiya, jinke liye me apne sab dukh bhool kar unka sahaara bani rahi, ussi ne mujhe dhokha diya?!!

Jai: Yeh kya baat kar rahi ho Bani?!! Rano ne dhokha-

Bani: Rano ne mujhse vaada kiya tha ke voh aisa koi kadam nahin uthayengi jisse mera sar sharm se jukhjaaye… vaada kiya tha ke voh Jigyaasa auntie ke khilaaf nahin jayengi, voh Raashi ke saath aisa nahin karengi!!

Uska naseeb achcha hai ke Raashi itni samajdaar nikli, itni mature ke voh khud un dono ke madat ke liye taiyyar ho gayi… lekin me ye kaise bhooljao ke meri choti bahen ab itni badi ho gayi ke usse apne Di ka vishwaas todna bhi sikhliya?!!!

A fierce wind causes the window to fly open and Jai gets up to close it. He turns around…

Jai: Rano…?!!

Bani looks up to see that Rano has been standing in the doorway and as is evident from the tears streaming down her face, she has heard everything Bani said. She runs out of the room in tears. Jai moves to go after her and then hears the bathroom door bang shut and hears Bani crying too.

He sits down on the bed, shaking his head in exasperation. "Ab kya karoon me in dono ka?!!" …

The next morning Jai wakes up to find that Bani is not in the bedroom. He sees a wet towel on the chair and realises she must already have got ready and gone downstairs.

Soon he too is ready for the day and comes downstairs for breakfast. The tension in the air can be cut with a knife!!

Bani is silently serving parathe to everyone while Jigs shoots evil glares in Rano's direction every few minutes! Bechaari Rano is sitting quietly and has yet to touch her food. Dadi and Adi are as usual, trying to keep the mood light!

Adi: Toh Jai, bataao tumhaara trip kaisa tha?!

Dadi: Haan puttar! Jaldi se photos taiyyar karlo, mujhe sabse pehele dekhne hai!!

Jai: Zaroor Dadi, main aaj hi yeh karloonga!

Adi: Bani?! Tum nahin bataogi? Kaisa raha Scotland ka trip??

Bani, quietly: Bahut achcha raha Aditya uncle.

Dadi: Bas?! Itna thanda sa jawaab? Bani thoda aur batao na?! Waha ka mausam, waha ke log, waha ka khaana….? Arre, maine to suna hai ke voh hamaari hindi picturon ki bahut shooting hoti hai waha pe!! Koi shooting dekhne ko mila tha….?

Jigs, sarcastically: Baahar jaane ki kya zaroorat hai… yaha ghar pe jo naatak chal raha he voh kaafi nahin..?

Jai glares at her while Bani makes some excuse about leaving the water on in the kitchen and gets up from the table.

Rano too leaves the table, shortly followed by Saahil and then Jigs.

Jai sighs in desperation!!

Jai: Kya ho raha hai is ghar me?!! Ek taraf Jigyaasa kabhi sudharti nahin, or doosri taraf Bani ki ye zid!! Had ho gayi hai!!

Ranveer: Mamaji, apni apni jagah pe dono Maa aur Bani mami sahi hai. Lekin ab ilzaam lagane se kya fayda? Jo ho chuka voh to hum nahin badalsakte na?

Koi aise tarkeeb dhoondhni hogi jisse Bani mami aur Rano dono phir se bat kar ne lega, aur Maa ki aap fikar mat kijiye, unse me baat karloonga!

Adi: Ranveer?!! Yeh tum bol rahe ho?!!

Ranveer looks pained at his father's disbelief in him. He knew he had always supported his mom, whether she was right or wrong, but after what had happened in the last few days he had realised that life was short and people could change! If Mama was happy with Bani then who was he to intervene??

Jai: Don't look surprised Adi, Ranveer to hamesha se samajhdaar tha, bas unka nazariya thoda ghalat tha!

Dadi: IDEA!!!

All three men jump and look at her as if she has gone senile!!!

Dadi: Ham aisa karte hai ke Anu-Rohit aur Rano-Saahil ki shaadi ki khushi me ek bahut bada party rakhte hain!! Aur Rano ke liye saari taiyariya hum Bani se karvayenge! Is bahaane usse Rano se baat karni to hogi na?!!

Jai: Of course!! Not a bad idea Dadi!! Waise bhi we need to lighten the atmosphere here!! Hmmm… chalaaki to koi aap se sikhe!!!
