Coming to your questions, well too difficult to answer btw!
But realisation and confession and contemplating the other person's realisation is an easy task that people have unnecessarily made complicated !
If you feel good being around someone, if you like to listen to them, share your own happiness and problems with them or you always want ro be a part of all their ups and downs that's when you should realise that you like or probably love that person and you should go and confess! Tell them whatever is there inside your heart. Life is all about risks! You don't know whether the other person would acknowledge or not, you dont know whether the other person would pay heed to it but for your own happiness, there's no harm in taking the risk!
I agree that rejection is something that needs to be faced with a very strong mind and heart but it still is not as bad as regret. If you don't get answers to your questions or if you don't get the desired closure, you end up hoping for the rest of your life which only ruins you further. It's better to let the other person know then and there.
But then it's not as simple as it sounds, in today's materialistic world it's not just about how you feel or you think the other person feels. There are so many factors that need to be taken care of before taking any step!
Contemplating other person's emotions is as important as realising your own! At times we without knowing the truth assume about the other person's feelings which screws up everything!
According to me, whatever you feel, good or bad, you should always say it! You need to ask questions in order to get answers! Don't keep anything inside just let it out and don't care about what might happen! Take risks! You've got one life, don't let it go waste for the world ! Everything is uncertain and not everybody gets a second chance :)
P.s. I really don't know what I have written or this was even the answer for your question or not, but whatever I have written has come straight through my heart :)
