Poonam Joshi
Transcript of LIVE CHAT with TV actress, Poonam Joshi at 12 noon on Monday, March 21, 2005 in Mumbai

I converted to Buddhism because it gave a better meaning to my life."

Meg >
The characters you portray on TV, are they in any way related to the kind of person you are in real life?
Poonam Joshi > There is a part of me in every character that I play because I have always portrayed these nice, simple girls. But the rest of it is just the character.

Dido > I think you are one of the most beautiful women around. How do you maintain yourself?
Poonam Joshi > Thanks a lot. I exercise, maintain a good diet and do lots of hard work.

Gia > What made you convert to Buddhism?
Poonam Joshi > I just saw in Buddhism a way of life that would improve my life and help (me) achieve what I wanted in life. It gave more meaning to my life.

Keys > Do you have to follow a strict regime pursuing Buddhism? What is the most influential preaching of this religion?
Poonam Joshi > There is a certain regime that you have to follow besides chanting. We read a lot about Buddhism to gain (more) knowledge and the most important thing is one has to have faith in it totally. It does wonders for you. The most influential preaching is that you yourself are the most powerful force and you don't have to look outside for what you want. You have to look within you to get it.

Rahul_from_delhi > Hi Poonam! How are you? How did you get our first break in Kahiin To Hoga ?
Poonam Joshi > Hi Rahul. I had to audition for Kahiin To Hoga . Then I was selected and started shooting the next day.

Farha > What is your ultimate goal in life?
Poonam Joshi > My ultimate goal is to succeed in whatever I do. Today it's acting, tomorrow it could be something else. But whatever I do, I do it with a clean heart.

Delhia > How serious are you in your career on the small screen?
Poonam Joshi > Of course I take my career very seriously. It's the profession I have chosen and want to be good at it. Especially, in this industry one cannot take things lightly.

Farha > How picky are you about the kind of roles you take up on the small screen?
Poonam Joshi > They have to be good roles. The length of the role does not matter as long as for the time I am there, I am doing something substantial.

Rahul_dilliwala > What message do you like to give to struggling actresses to save them from casting couch?
Poonam Joshi > The message I would like to give is that one has to be careful and you must be sure that you are not going to go through the wrong means.

Rahul_dilliwala > Would you like to accept offer from films? What if you are offered a role opposite SRK in a film?
Poonam Joshi > I am not really enthusiastic about movies. But if it's SRK (Shah Rukh Khan) then definitely I would do a movie. He is my favourite.

Nupur > Hi!! Okay whom do you like more in real life - Rishi or Varun?
Poonam Joshi > Hi Nupur. In real life I am friendly with both of them. They are both equally nice guys. But I am closer to Rishi (Shabir Ahluwalia) as I have worked with him longer.

Rahul_dilliwala > What does your mom like about your performance on TV?
Poonam Joshi > She thinks I cry very well. But she is a mom, so she like everything I do.

Pratik7777 > Who's your best friend on your set ?
Poonam Joshi > On the set, I am friendly to Rishi( Shabir) and Sanjana (Dimple). We have a party time when we are together.

Rahul_dilliwala > You have just entered Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki , as "Chavvi"? Tell us about your role in it ?
Poonam Joshi > My role is over in Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki as of now. Let's see if the character comes back later.

Rahul_dilliwala > Who was your first crush in life?
Poonam Joshi > There was this guy in college (Ferguson College in Pune). He played the guitar really well.

Nupur > You come across as a very simple girl in the serial. How are you in the real life? Well, you are a good actress and we really like watching you!!
Poonam Joshi > Thanks a lot. In real life too, I am quite simple and a fun-loving person. I laugh a lot.

Rahul_dilliwala > Do you feel that India TV did a right job by their sting operation?
Poonam Joshi > It's good that they are trying to expose something like this but the way they are doing it is wrong. They should not invade peoples' privacy.

Gia > What is your ultimate goal in life? Did you always want to be an actor?
Poonam Joshi > Yeah, I always wanted to be an actor since childhood. But now I feel later on in life I will do something else. But don't know what.

Kedia > What is the next serial that you will be working in? Is it any different from the kind of roles that you have been taking up?
Poonam Joshi > The next show that I have recently started is Kavyanjali . My character is different from "Mehak." She is more spontaneous and does not take nonsense from people.

Ena > Will "Varun" and "Mehak" get divorced?
Poonam Joshi > You have to wait and watch.

Ena > What's gonna happen next in Poonam's life? Any updates?
Poonam Joshi > Right now I am looking forward to doing more acting assignments. I want to do good work and make lots of money.

Kedia > What is your opinion on joining the Bollywood industry? Are you looking forward to that?
Poonam Joshi > Personally, I am not interested in movies. But if something really good comes up, I will think about it.

Gia > Which is your favourite show and if you were given a chance which character would you like to play?
Poonam Joshi > My favourite show is Kahni To Hoga . I would like to play any character that has scope for good performance.

Witsie > Who has been your influence in life and why?
Poonam Joshi > My mom. I learnt what it is to be strong and confident and take on challenges of life from her.

Yashu > How do you cope with hectic schedules?
Poonam Joshi > It is stressful but the little time that I do get I unwind by reading books, meeting up with friends.

Chandrika > Are you going to be in this show till the very end or are you planning to move on to something better?
Poonam Joshi > I think I am going to be there till the end. My character is shaping up well. So, I have no plans of leaving. At the same time, I can take up other work.

Sign Off Message > Thank you for login in and chatting with me. Keep watching me. Love, Poonam.

Rajeev Khandelwal: Holi-er than thou?

Rajeev Khandelwal
Holi isn't for everyone. So Rajeev "Sujal" Khandelwal decided to stay away from the TV holi bash Rang Barse, hosted by Star Plus for all their artistes last week.

"That's because I am not comfortable with the idea of colour-splashing. Both Aamna Sharief (Kashish) and me did not participate. In fact, I have not been playing Holi for several years," disclosed Khandelwal.

So it's pretty obvious then; the boy and his lady friend are going to be holed up indoors over the weekend while everyone else dons their whites for some Rang Barse moments. Tch, tch.

'I am looking for change!'
- Aamna Shariff

Life seems to be treating Aamna Shariff pretty well. This popular actress who plays Kashish in Star Plus' Kahiin to

Aamna Shariff: Going places!

Hoga has been flooded with offers for both films and television.

"I am looking for a character who is completely different from Kashish. Something bigger than her," says Aamna. She's now on the verge of signing a big serial, that will not only help her move away from the demure 'Kashish' mould, but will also have her sporting a completely new look.

Even film offers are coming in by the dozen. Aamna has gone through a number of scripts and is really interested in two of them. "They are big banner films, but since it will be my debut film, I am being a little choosy,"she laughs.

Talking about her experience while shooting for a Pakistani serial in Malaysia recently, Aamna visibly brightens up, saying that she plays a character very much like Sujal in Kahiin To Hoga, " For once I get to dump Rajeev,"she giggles.

Shooting the Pakistani serial was an experience that will always be close to Aamna. It was very different from the usual shooting that is done in Indian soaps, she says, adding, "They do not shoot from different angles. Acting is more real, it's fast and you are expected to shoot a considerable amount without breaks. This I think will be a learning experience for any Indian television actor."

Aamna is probably among the few in the industry who don't believe in the adage the "more the merrier" --- taking on projects and leaving little time for her personal life, is something that she does not believe in. "I have worked round the clock for a long time, now I want to finish my day's work and come home and relax," says this lady, who is looking to do

Aamna and Rajeev: The Sangini Indian Telly Awards 'Couple of the Year'

different characters, be it on the telly or the big screen.

Ask her about rumours about her quitting Kahiin to Hoga, and she bursts into peels of laughter, telling us that as long as Kashish has different shades to offer, she will stick to the role, but she does not want to continue if the present track drags too long.

So when does the lady plan to tie the knot, we ask --- again we are greeted with a dazzling smile, as she says, "Marriage is something very big, it's not happening for me in the next five years."

Marriage or not, Aamna is surely going places!

That Rajeev Khandelwal is a sweetheart when it comes to girls is nothing new, however recently the charmer floored the teachers, the parents and the students alike. When a south-Mumbai based play-school decided to celebrate it's annual day, they made sure they had a treat for everyone in store. So, when Rajeev came on-stage and sang — yes guys, he can croon very well — he had the audience asking for more. In fact, the teachers were so touched by his interest among kids that they just couldn't find adequate words to thank him.

For those who think that Urvashi Dholakia will resurface in Ekta Kapoor's Kaahin To Hoga, this one is for you!

Urvashi: Out in the cold!

Urvashi specifically asked Ekta to relieve her from the show.

Says Urvashi, "My character was not going anywhere beyond saying 'I love you Sujal' repeatedly. I had a discussion with Ekta. She understood my perspective and let me go."

In fact, Urvashi was talking to Ekta on this since the past eight months. It was only after she prevailed that the Balaji creatives decided to make her Piyush's killer.

"Think of it, I being Piyush's killer was a bit vague. What motive would I have to kill Piyush? My problem was only Kashish because I was obsessed with Sujal. Hence, they showed that I wanted to dump off Kashish, but in the bargain Piyush got killed."

Didn't she have a few problems with some actors from the KTH unit?

"Yeah. A few of them were averse to adjusting their timings according to my availability. But since I was doing two shows (Kasautii... and Kahiin...), they were asked to keep quiet and continue," she reveals.

That's that! Those waiting expectantly for Urvashi to return from jail in KTH can start thinking on how they will overcome their disappointment.

Rajeev Khandewal
(Sujal of Kahiin to Hoga)

Explains his dilemma. "In Bollywood, unless you have a godfather or a huge production house to back you, a good break is next to impossible. Directors look at television stars but they only want them to play character roles, not the main leads. So why should we fall for that?"

He has made quite an impression as Akshat in Star Plus' Kahiin to Hoga, stealing the limelight from Rajeev Khandelwal <hey youu, itz not true !!!>. In a bare all interview, Chaitanya Choudhry tells Prashant Golecha about life after Kahiin to Hoga.

Chaitanya Choudhury

Tell me something about yourself…
I have been born and brought up in Mumbai. I used to act in plays in school. My father is a documentary filmmaker and my mom was a theatre actress. I have done my MBA in marketing from Pune. I have also done a course in export management. Education was always a top priority.

How did Kahiin to Hoga happen?
I had done Dev Anand's Love at Times Square and Kalpana Lajmi's Kyun. I have done modeling also for Samsung mobile, Samsung printers and TV commercials like that of Nyle shampoo. I was also third runner up in 2001 in the Gladrags Manhunt. I was also titled Mr. Photogenic. Actually, a big production house selected me for a film, which eventually didn't materialize. I consulted a director friend and decided to do television. I auditioned for the role of Akshat and took up the offer. I hadn't even seen Kahiin To Hoga before taking up the offer.

Are you seeing Surveen Chawla?
We were newcomers. From co-stars turned friends and there is no love angle. Our on-screen chemistry is good. When she was new, I used to fight for her performance. We are quite comfortable with each other.

Describe your ideal woman…
She should be tall, attractive looking and above that she should be a good human being.

What is your idea of romance?
Just to be with the person I love.

What kind of offers you are getting?
I am getting a lot of offers particularly of offbeat movies. Right now, I want to concentrate on Kahiin To Hoga.

Your character "Akshat" has become as popular as "Sujal". Comment.
I don't know. Rajeev Khandelwal who plays Sujal is a very good friend of mine. He keeps joking, "you are stealing my popularity". Acceptance of my character was tough initially. With time, the character evolved and I was accepted. But Rajeev is still is very popular.

How do you feel on the adulation you got?
It feels nice. Fans from Pakistan call me. It is amazing some of my fans arranged my residence number and started giving calls. My parents were surprised.

Do you feel an actor needs to be compulsorily good looking on TV?
Good looks does matter. If one is good looking one at least gets a break. For example the lead of Kaavayanjali who wasreplaced after some time got the offer because of his looks. Looks does compensate for acting to some extent. Acting improves with experience. But in case of long term acting is of paramount importance.

If Kahiin to Hoga leaps, will you agree to play an older character?
I don't know. It depends on the situation. I don't think a leap is lined up so soon.

Do you think working on TV means earning good money?
Yes, it pays well.

Do you still want to do films?
Yes, I want to get back to films.
