Ekta's ultimatum to Sujal
By: Upala KBR
May 7, 2005

upala@mid-day.com
'IN'TENSE: Gurpreet Singh 'OUT'PACED: Rajiv Khandelwal

After working in Ekta Kapoor's Kahiin To Hoga for more than a year as Sujal Garewal, Rajiv Khandelwal is finally going be replaced by newcomer Gurpreet Singh.

Says Shivangi Singh Chauhan, the creative head for the show, "Gurpreet was picked up from a general audition. Actually, we discovered him when we were looking for someone to play Angad in Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai on Sony."

Ekta Kapoor

According to sources in Balaji Telefilms, Kapoor has told them that Gurpreet "bears an uncanny resemblance to Rajiv and has the same intensity and brooding rawness of personality."

If all goes well, Gurpreet will start playing Sujal from May 25, thus ending an era of much squabbling and griping off-screen drama between Balaji's Ekta Kapoor and Rajiv Khandelwal.

What's Rajiv's problem? Says the source, "Right from day one, Rajiv made things difficult for everybody.

He wanted to change the script all the time and questioned each and every scene — why would one do this, why should Sujal slap Kashish, why should he ask his mother Veena to leave his father, etc?"

According to Khandelwal, these were not logical things. "We have 25 creative people on the show and everybody knows their job.

Twelve creative heads walked out during Sujal's tenure. Even his co-stars didn't want to work with him. Everybody found him illogical. What was worse was that he kept cancelling shoots or holding them up for hours on end. That is unprofessional."

The source adds that Khandelwal had once told Ekta Kapoor, "If you stuff my face with money, I will keep quiet". He says, "It wasn't that Rajiv was greedy, just that he wanted to be compensated for what he felt he was missing out on.

The money would balance out his dissatisfaction with the script. We have made Rajiv Khandelwal into Sujal and we are making the show."

"It's not that Rajiv is a money-minded person, he just wants to be the creative person on the show."

The only comment Ekta Kapoor is makes is, "The problem was that Rajiv wanted to be not just the actor, but also the writer of the show."

"I finally told Rajiv that either I will leave the show or he will," says Ekta. It is extremely demeaning for me as a creative person to put up with an attitude from an artiste who complains every day, 'These are horrible scenes', or tells us 'you guys are such dimwits'.

I can't work with such a person any more. I told him the channel will take a call on whom they want but I can't continue like this. Even the writer of Kahiin To Hoga (Anil Nagpal) is very upset with Rajiv."

Sujal's dilemma

November 18, 2004:
Tells producers he is not happy with the show.
November 19: Bags Best Debut, Best TV Personality, Best TV Couple at Indian Telly Awards.
November 23: Wants to opt out.
November 25: Declares he wants to be Rajeev, not Sujal.
November 29: Stays on.
December 13: Is out of Kahiin To Hoga. Pawan Shankar roped in to replace him, but Rajiv says he will continue shooting. Ekta makes him sign a contract for year.
April 25, 2005: Insecure about characters of Rishi and Swayam

Sujal's secret bomb

Rajiv Khandelwal
Rajiv 'Sujal' Khandelwal may have walked out (or been kicked out?) of Kahiin Toh Hoga, but the smart cookie had an ace up his sleeve that no one knew of.

The actor has been shooting for Ketan Mehta's TV serial, tentatively called Time Bomb, in Kulu Manali for the last couple of days. Rajiv plays a cop in this serial for Zee TV.

"I have more or less finished shooting for the major schedule of Ketanji's mega action thriller. But at this stage, I can't reveal anything about my character.

All I can say is that it is very different from Sujal," says Khandelwal, who will be locking horns with Akashdeep 'Ansh' Sehgal, who plays a terrorist in the thriller.

What's more, the TV actor has also been wooing Bollywood. "I've been meeting with several Bollywood filmmakers, but unless the lead role is meaty I wouldn't want to take the plunge. In the latter half of this year, I hope to finalise my film debut," he assures us.

We'll definitely be watching out for this one.

what will u say to this? but yes, this is true. rajeev wants to
play a meaty roles in films. "but of course, it has to be a lead role
and not villion. but as a lead character, it doesn't mean only goody-
goody roles. a bit meaty side is more welcome. it makes the character
more human," rajeev expresses his wish.

"i'm finishing shooting for ketanji's 'TIME BOMB' within next 2
months. and my film projects will also be finalised next month. but i'm not in hurry. i wish that viewers will like and appriciate me , for what i do. and that's why i have to take up the new work very carefully. and i'm ready to wait. but i'll always try to be at my best , in whatever i do," rajeev is so confident abt himself. so it is like this. anyways , ALL THE BEST TO U , JAAN!

Rajeev Khandelwal

Transcript of LIVE CHAT with TV actor, Rajeev Khandelwal at 12 noon on Monday, May 16, 2005 in Mumbai

Rajeev Khandelwal
TV actor

"My ideal partner would be somebody who (would) compliment me in whatever I do, read me through my eyes and just live for me."

Cutecapric > Why are you leaving the serial and what is your future plans?
Rajeev Khandelwal > Being "Sujal" meant a lot to me. But I was not able to relate with the character in the last 6 - 7 months. So when I don't understand the character how do I convince the audience? My future plans – currently, I am doing another project, which is a mini series of 24 episodes.

Ridhs > Hi Rajeev we all know that you indeed are good actor. So, have you signed any film?
Rajeev Khandelwal > No, I haven't. I am hearing a few scripts but I am in no rush.

Jatin > Rajiv, what advice would you give to strugglers who want to act in serials?
Rajeev Khandelwal > Be focussed, believe in yourself and be perseverant.

Nida > Hi Rajeev, I am from Pakistan and I am your craziest fan. I want to ask you besides Ketan Mehta serial, can you act in any another serial? Bye and take care.
Rajeev Khandelwal > For sure I can but I haven't decided on anything for now other than Ketan Mehta's project.

Anil_1985 > Can you reveal something more about your role in Ketan Mehta's mini-series?
Rajeev Khandelwal > I can't reveal till the time the producer and the channel decide to talk about the show.

Dedicated2rajeev > Dear Rajeev, this is Sehrish and Maira. Please Rajeev it's a request. Can you please sign a daily soap? It's impossible to survive without watching you daily.
Rajeev Khandelwal > So sweet of you. Thanks for loving me! Will surely do as much as I can for all of you. Take care.

Rose009 > Your style is self-oriented. Do you believe in Osho?
Rajeev Khandelwal > I don't believe in anything other than Karma (good deed).

Sizzling_sur > How will your life partner be?
Rajeev Khandelwal > Somebody who would compliment me in whatever I do. Who will read me through my eyes and someone who would just live for me.

Megha > Hi, I am a great fan of yours. I love uuuuuuuu a LOT. When is your birthday?
Rajeev Khandelwal > Thanks for liking me. My birthday is on 16th of October.

Rekha > How does it feel finally to bid goodbye to "Sujal"?
Rajeev Khandelwal > It's a weird feeling. I feel the pain yet I can see freedom. It's going to be tough but I think I have made the correct decision.

Fiza > Hi, It's Fiza from Canada and a member of rajeevkhandelwal, sujalgarewal, and kahiintohoga group. You should visit these groups. All your fans really love and support you. Aamna and you make a wonderful couple. One of the best ones I've ever known. Any plans of you two tying the knot. Trust me, a lot of us (fans) want you to this.
Rajeev Khandelwal > I love all of you. As far as tying the knot with Aamna is concerned, it's not happening and I will surely visit the groups someday and thanks for being so loving and generous.

Khushix > Hi Rajeev. This is Khushi from the Philippines. I am a very big fan of yours. So much so that I even cried when I came to know that your screen character "Sujal" will be replaced with a new actor to play Sujal. Anyways, a lot of us love the SUJAL-KASHISH pair. Since you're no longer in KTH, would we still see you and Aamna together in any other serials, aside from the Pakistani serial? Would you still like to work with Aamna again?
Rajeev Khandelwal > Thanks Khusi for your compliment. I would love to work with Aamna again because I am very comfortable working with her and we understand each other pretty well. No more shows in the pipeline as of now but wait and watch.

Chinti > Although we don't look forward to it, if Ektaa offers you a meaty role in a new soap, will you take it?
Rajeev Khandelwal > I don't have any grudge against Ektaa. I will decide as and when the role comes my way. Take care.

Sim > Hi Rajeev, what is the most memorable incident with your fans?
Rajeev Khandelwal > There have been plenty and each experience has been a memorable one. Trust me, I have been made to feel so special by each one of you. Love you.

Choozy > Will you recreate your small screen magic on the celluloid too?
Rajeev Khandelwal > I will leave no stone unturned in my efforts. The rest is destiny.

Kaju > How did you start your career?
Rajeev Khandelwal > I went to Delhi from Jaipur. Started writing scripts for documentaries and then went ahead, directing some small films and then came to Bombay (Mumbai) for some personal work where I happened to audition for Kahiin Toh Hoga (KTH) and got the role.

Zubaria2 > Hi Rrajeev. How do you feel when you hear that your fans react too much on yo behalf?
Rajeev Khandelwal > I feel touched. I feel deeply indebted. And it gives me tremendous strength to fight the odds in my life. Thank you soooooooo much!

Sim > Hi Rajeev, Sim here. What is the secret behind those intense brooding eyes?
Rajeev Khandelwal > There is no secret. In fact even I discovered about my eyes through all of you. I guess it's just the conviction of the character.

Nafisa > What has been your greatest achievement after KTH?
Rajeev Khandelwal > The greatest achievement after Kahiin Toh Hoga has been the love and affection from my fans, which has been pouring in since the news of me quitting the show started.

Neha > If you weren't happy with KTH, why did you continue for so long
Rajeev Khandelwal > I tried my level best for the last six months to perform with conviction thinking that I could be wrong. But I realised that I wasn't happy doing illogical things so took the final step .

Chinti > Besides Aamna who is your best friend?
Rajeev Khandelwal > My childhood friend; my schoolmate - Mahijeet Mishra.

Sweet_rythm24 > Rajeev, how do you feel when most of the fans are girls?
Rajeev Khandelwal > I feel like any normal guy would feel - on top of the world!

Nina > Hi Rajeev, this is Nina from the Philippines. When would be the last time we would see you in KTH?
Rajeev Khandelwal > I guess this Thursday would be my last appearance in the show.

Nimi > Name your dream date and tell us the kind of romantic evening you will spend with her.
Rajeev Khandelwal > My dream date would be Catherine Zeta Jones. I would want to spend an evening with her on an island, with no one around.

Sign Off Message > Thanks for being so kind to me. I hope I live up to all your expectations. Take care and love me always. Love, Rajeev.

"Some people tell me that even SRK would fail as Sujal"
- Gurpreet Singh

Gurpreet Singh, the man who is going to step into Rajeev Khandelwal's formidable shoes on Star Plus' Kahiin

Gurpreet Singh: looking skywards for strength

to Hoga, is living life on the edge. Not used to being in the limelight, Gurpreet seems to be feeling a tad uncomfortable with the attention that he is suddenly getting as he recovers from a nose surgery done to make him look like Rajeev.

"Its difficult to tell people that I am busy…don't disturb," moans Gurpreet, who comes across as a simpleton who is nothing like the suave and worldly wise Sujal that he will soon play.

Spare a thought for this guy who planned to become a pilot, until his 'nice jawline' intervened. "I get two reactions --- some say that I will do a great job, but there are others who completely hate me. Then there are some who have told
me that even Shah Rukh Khan himself would fail as Sujal," says Gurpreet with a laugh, only, it doesn't seem to reach his eyes! This is not all, he has to tolerate his own mother's opinion on the matter, because Gurpreet's mamma dearest is an absolute Rajeev fan!

Then there is the nose job that he has done, or to put things straight, he was made to do, what is the logic of going that far, we ask --- "Initially I wasn't in favour of an operation, but the doctor convinced me. I have been told that I look good, but there are some choices that you make," says Gurpreet with a sigh.

Gurpreet has not met Ekta Kapoor yet. He is in touch with the creative team, no higher upbut no one from the production house has been in touch. He has met his co-stars Aamna Shariff and Shabbir Ahluwalia, and when asked about his chemistry with the leading lady, he says,"I have not started shooting yet so I don't know how things are going to shape up!"

Aamna and Gurpreet: will the pair be as good as the original?

What about his meeting with Rajeev, we ask --- " I met Rajeev for 10 seconds on my first day, he was very nice to me and wished me luck. And as far as popularity is concerned, all I can say is let's wait and watch.

Though Ekta thinks otherwise, the photographs that we have leads us to believe that the lad looks nothing like Rajeev, nose and all! His acting skills are yet to be judged and above everything else, he has to work his chemistry not only with Aamna Shariff, but also the Indian audiences, both at home and abroad!

If anybody demands sympathy and a patient shoulder to lean on, it is surely this guy! We hope that Gurpreet doesn't go the Rakshak (Remember the original Kkavya in Kkavyanjali!) way. Till yesterday, Gurpreet knew that he was going to start shooting from Friday, but now he will know the course of events only next week. This is a lot of uncertainty for one guy to live with!

Meanwhile, Gurpreet has acted in two films, Bhay and Madhubala and done quite a number of ads. He has dreams of making it big in Bollywood, and hopes that he can manage both the small and the big screen simultaneously. This is his first foray into tellydom, and he hopes that he can make it big here as well. Incidentally, Gurpreet had also auditioned for the lead in Sony's Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai, a role that finally went to Iqbal Khan.

Above everything else, the one thing that is going to really weigh him down is the popularity of the character that he is going to play. He can be rest assured that all telly watchers, specially the followers of this popular Balaji show, will
be glued to their television sets to get a look at the guy who has replaced their favourite son. To live up to their expectation will be a Herculean task, to say the least.

"I want to lead a normal life, and am scared that my life will change from now on, " says Gurpreet, admitting that he enjoys the adulation that comes with playing Sujal. This is one thing that Gurpreet has perhaps come to accept that being Sujal has its negative and positive points --- its a package, take it or leave it!

An operation and a makeover later, Gurpreet surely will look the part, but will the ruthless world of television let him survive the grind? Only time will tell.

OBVIOUSLY Balaji Telefilms couldn't find the perfect Sujal after Rajeev Khandelwal quit Kahiin To Hoga. They've decided to play God and fashion one instead. After much arm-twisting they've convinced model Gurpreet Singh to undergo corrective surgery to render him suitable for the part. Read, they're asking him to get a nose job. 🤢 ''I wasn't favourable to the idea, but my creative head insisted that it would help my career🤢,'' says a groggy Singh, recuperating after a his 72-hour hospital stay at St Elizabeth's, Walkeshwar, courtesy Balaji. It only took one visit to the doc to change his mind. ''After the surgeon explained what he was doing, I was more comfortable with it,'' he says, though still unaware that he underwent a rhinoplasty.
Face Off
Balaji gives Sujal a nose job—in real life
< ="return ShowWarning()" =http://banners.expressindia.com/adsnew/adclick.php method=get>
It may have been simpler to locate a candidate more in sync with Sujal's character profile. ''It would have been very difficult for us to find someone who looked like Rajeev<b/c rajeev is jus too handsome>😳,'' refutes a source on the creative team. Apparently, Singh's extra sharp tip was incongruous with the character's mellow personality. Singh however denies the suggestion that the operation was any attempt to clone his predecessor. ''They just wanted the perfect Sujal that money could buy,'' he asserts.
THE FIXERS

• Manasi Joshi Roy was asked to highlight in hair for Kkusum
• Mukul Dev put on a few extra kilos to look over 40 years old, on K Street Pali Hill

The former underwear model compares the cosmetic change to any other screen role that he's had to slip into. ''I'm a different person every time, this is just like creating a new look,'' he says. Like the team at Balaji, Singh will have to wait a week till the plaster's removed. Will Ekta Kapoor approve, or will Singh have to make another trip to the cutting table🤢? We'll tell you soon.

------------------------------------------------------------ -----

sorry for posting da article...par jaahan rajeev ki thodi si tareef ayi to socha ke yeh article post kar doon😭

It's Sujal, kyunki...(Ekta tells us why SUJAL is her ideal man)
hi guys...i was surfing the net and found this article...im not so sure if its a new news...but i guess it is....
Ektaa Kapoor tells us why Sujal of Star's TV serial Kahiin To Hoga is her ideal man

</>Among all the actors in my TV serials, Sujal (played by Rajeev Khandelwal) is my favourite because he comes closest to my idea of the perfect man. He is the strong and silent type; he is passionate; and he isn't all black or white but has shades of grey. This makes him real and easy to associate with because one appreciates that there is a bad side to his plus points. Every human being has weaknesses and it is easy to visualise a man like Sujal.

At the same time, I don't really believe that there is an ideal man out there, and neither do I have a list of traits for men. Good looks are not a pre-requisite but a man I like must have confidence, self-righteousness, passion and the intensity to turn me on. Marriage is some way away. I'm not seeing anyone now as I'm preoccupied with work. It doesn't matter whether my man is from the film industry or some other profession.

Rajeev Khandelwal: I'm touched by people's response

"I am really glad that people have liked my character in Kahiin to Hoga. However, in showbiz people move on even though the character stays steady. So whether I play it or someone else portrays the character, Sujal will always be loved.

"I don't know why people love Sujal so much. He is like many other people on TV. I guess I have been lucky that I received so much love.

"I am touched by the overwhelming response of viewers, especially those who say they'll stop watching the show once I exit. But I request them to give Gurpreet a chance."

chance....?!! hmm....
