Chapter 8

Tannu stared at the notice board with a distraught face…
B: hey tannu…what's up?
T: trip to stupid Goa that's what's up!!!
B: wow!! Goa…why you upsat?
Because…the Goa trip is next week and I have no one to sit next to!!! And no…your name's not even in the registry board because you didn't apply!!!!
B: OK…lets go to class!!!
Tannu and bharat went to class

Maihtili and her friends walked past the notice board…
M: hey I forgot its the trip next tuesday right?!?
S: yes…have you got a partner maithili???
M: have you?
S: no..
M: ok should we be partners?!?
S: ya…

"who would want to sit next to you maithili!!!" Adi said..
nearly half the girls round maithili had broad smiles on their face…
M; go away adi!!! Just because you have nothing better to do you're bugging me…
A: oh so its come to that has it!!! And what about yesterday, trying to trap me in front of dad? Huh?
Maithili rolled her eyes: if it weren't for tannu, you'd have been down the drain…I don't see why my sister helps jerks like you…maybe she feels it as charity!!!
A: correction!!! Not your sister!!! Our sister…because maithili…tannu is the only thing we share in common and if it weren't for tannu I 'd have done a lot worse to you by now!!!
Both stared daggers at each other and walked away.

In class, tannu and bharat walked in…
"stop!! You two are late…may I ask why" said Mr. Singh, the teacher for their history class.
B: you see sir, I had a really weird dream last night about World war 2…where the Nazis were chasing me and I had to run for cover…then I finally took a flight to Bombay and came to school…
Mr. Singh: really!!! Said the teacher sarcastically and why was miss tannu late????
B: she came to pick me up at the airport!!!
The teacher scowled…"just because janki devi is your dadi…you think you can joke in class like this…"
B: excuse me?!?!?
Mr. Singh: nothing…sit down!!! And separately!!!!!!!!!!!!!
T: ok!!! Tannu sat in an empty seat while Bharat sat next to a girl.
Mr. Singh: ok class…we have a new student in school today, Mr. Ronit Garewaal…
A boy came through the door…lots of girl's heads turned towards him…tannu smiled at him and bharat saw that…he quickly got up and sat next to tannu.
B: hey…why are you smiling???
T: you! What are you doing here???
B: why are you smiling???
T: because I think that finally a cute guy has come in this college..
Bharat nearly choked after hearing that reply…
B: you…you think he's cute?!?!?
T: bharat!!! I'm a girl…or have you just noticed that!!!
B: no..no no..i..
Mr singh: Bhaarat Mahra!!!! Will you sit in your proper seat!!!!!
B: y…yes sir…
Bharat got up and Ronit sat next to tannu…
Both started talking and it seemed they were exchanging numbers…
Bharat's face lit up green in jealousy…

At lunchtime everyone gathered round Ronit's table…
Bharat came foreword…
B: hey ronit!! Well it's a rule that new comers have to do a dare on their first day or they get bullied for the rest of their time here in JD College!
R: fine! Tell me what to do…
B: you have to beat me in Basketball!!!
Ronit smiled…your on!

In the courts all the students watched intently as Bharat and ronit stood face to face…it was one on one basketball
Both played quite vigorously. Ronit scored the first goal and bharat scored the next…they played so for 4 mins…in the last minute the score was
Bharat – 4
Ronit – 4
The whistle blew and the game started…people cheered for bharat and some cheered for Ronit… bharat bounced the ball and tried to throw it in the net but ronit blocked it. At the end of the last minute, it was a tie in both scores resulting to 5-5. Tannu smiled. She came up to ronit and put her hand foreword…
T: congrats!
Ronit smiled and took her hand but kissed it instead. Bharat clenched his fist and threw the ball to the ground.

At lunch Ronit joined the table… with Adi, Pranay and bharat…
T: hey bhai! This is my new friend Ronit…
A: hey!…so you beat Bharat in basketball right!!
B: no…we drew!!!
P: whatever! Hi..
Ronit gelled well with adi and Pranay and Bharat hated that…what he hated even more was that Tannu was always beside him like how she used to be for bharat.
He felt like a two-year-old craving for attention, but he didn't seem to get it from anywhere…
R: so you coming to Goa trip??
T: ya…you??
R: hmm…do you wanna sit next to me on the coach?
Bharat interrupted before tannu spoke: she's sitting next to me!!!
T: bharat…I thought you weren't going! Did you hand in a form..
B: ye…yes…
T: oh…and even if you were going…I thought you might want to sit next to some hot girl…like always!
B: NO…that's not true…he said defending himself..
T: ok…tell me one coach trip you sat next to me on?
Bharat knew she won this argument…he didn't once sit next to her on the numerous trips he went on but he would tomorrow…that's if you find yourself some namuna to replace you idiot! He reminded himself…
B: well honey I will tomorrow! He gave her a flying kiss and left…
R: tannu…is he your boyfriend?
Tannu let out a snort of laughter: him…and my boyfriend!!! NEVER!!!!!!!!
R: but why not! I mean you two totally gell together…
T: ya but that's because we're childhood friends!
R: ok lets avoid his topic…come you have to show me where my next class is.

Tannu woke up the next mourning smiling…but her smile turned into an expression of awe as she saw her room decorated in balloons, in wind chimes, her room was covered in blue wallpaper, there were flowers of all types and colours laid on the floor and in vases, chocolate boxes everywhere and her whole room looked like heaven. She got up and saw 5 figures standing at the door smiling at her. She leaped towards them and hugged Adi and Pranay first.
T: thank you so much my bhai's
She then hugged maithili and Mallishka: I love you di…
She hugged bharat as well.
Shruti, mayuri shikhar and prem wheeled in a massive cake in her room in the shape of a basketball.
1…2…3 everyone started singing… "happy birthday to you…happy birthday to you happy birthday Tannu happy birthday to you!!!"
She smiled and blew out the 18 candles placed neatly on the cake. She cut a piece and fed it to Prem first, she hugged him.. "I love you dad" then a piece to Shruti, then mayuri and then Shikhar…She fed a piece to Adi…Maithili…Pranay…Mallishka and then finally one to Bharat. The 5th of August was the only day every year that all 6 sat in the same limo and went to college. Everybody was pretty much used to this by now. Tannu started giving out invitations...she gave one to Ronit, which didn't settle well with Bharat. After college was over all the six would go home and dress up for the party in Bajaj mansion.
Tannu would wear casual clothes all the time but she decided it should be something different since she was now 18 years. She went into mallishka's room…
T: di…I need help…to dress…like you…
Mallishka spat out the coffee she was sipping but maithili simply smiled… "Come…"
