'Sasta version' of Deepika's Besharam Rang? Harnaaz Sandhu’s glam track in 'Baaghi 4' draws mixed reactions

The makers of Baaghi 4 are in full swing with promotions, and just three days before the film’s release, they dropped a brand-new track titled Yeh Mera Husn. Sung by the ever-soulful Shilpa Rao, the song features the film’s leading lady, Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu, in a dazzling avatar. While many fans were quick to praise Harnaaz’s glamorous presence and striking looks, the song has inevitably found itself in the middle of comparisons. And not with just any song, but one of the biggest chartbusters of recent times, Deepika Padukone’s Besharam Rang from Pathaan.

The déjà vu factor: Why fans are calling it ‘Sasta Besharam Rang'?

The moment Yeh Mera Husn went online, social media was buzzing with reactions. From the styling to the vibe of the track, audiences couldn’t help but notice an uncanny similarity to Besharam Rang. The fact that both tracks are sung by Shilpa Rao only amplified the comparisons. Harnaaz’s flowy outfits, sultry dance moves, and the seaside backdrop in certain portions gave fans a strong sense of déjà vu.

“Copied style, expressions and even the music,” wrote one user. Another went sharper with their words, dubbing the track a “sasta version” of Besharam Rang. A Reddit comment summed it up well: “Deepika provoked reactions with Besharam Rang, from incredibly hot to controversial. This one just feels… meh.”

Of course, not everyone was critical. Some applauded Harnaaz for carrying herself confidently and pointed out that it takes guts to headline a glamorous number in a high-octane action film. Yet, the shadow of Deepika’s song looms large, and it looks like Yeh Mera Husn will find it tough to escape the comparisons.

The trailer and déjà vu of another kind

It’s not just the song that’s being discussed. A few days ago, the makers unveiled the official trailer of Baaghi 4. Starring Tiger Shroff in his trademark action-packed avatar and Sanjay Dutt as the menacing antagonist, the trailer promised a cocktail of blood, drama, and brutal combat. Tiger is introduced first as a naval officer and later as a merciless fighter. The emotional core lies in Ronnie’s (Tiger) belief that his beloved Alisha (played by Harnaaz Sandhu) has died, though others claim she never existed and is just a figment of his imagination.

While the action sequences look massive, reactions online have been mixed. Several viewers instantly drew parallels to other films. Some felt the vibe was too similar to Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, with its heavy violence and family-driven emotional track. Others compared the memory-loss subplot to Ghajini, while a few even mentioned shades of The Forgotten. In short, for many, Baaghi 4 doesn’t feel as fresh as the franchise might have hoped.

What’s at stake?

Still, it’s not all criticism. Tiger’s fans are hyped to see him return to what he does best, gravity-defying stunts, hand-to-hand combat, and jaw-dropping action choreography. Sanjay Dutt’s rugged and bloodied look as the villain has also been appreciated for bringing a sense of menace. And Harnaaz Sandhu, making her big Bollywood debut, gets to shine both in the glam zone with Yeh Mera Husn and in the emotional beats of the story.

Produced and written by Sajid Nadiadwala and directed by A. Harsha, the film also features Sonam Bajwa, Shreyas Talpade, and Saurabh Sachdeva in key roles. Given the franchise’s history, where Baaghi 1 and Baaghi 2 clicked big but Baaghi 3 faced hurdles due to the pandemic, the stakes for this instalment are particularly high.

Between the déjà vu-inducing song and a trailer that reminds many of other blockbusters, Baaghi 4 has landed itself in a tricky position. Yet, Bollywood has often seen films rise above initial chatter to surprise audiences in theatres.

The combination of Tiger’s action, Dutt’s villainy, and Harnaaz’s fresh screen presence could still strike a chord. Whether Baaghi 4 ends up being a hard-hitting action entertainer or just another addition to the déjà vu list will be clear when the film roars into cinemas on September 5.
