Part 8

After expressing his feelings to Mathilli, Adi went home and reiterated the whole scene to his parents. Mayuri and Shekhar were more supportive than ever, and Adi was grateful that his parents were there for him. In the meantime, Mathilli couldn't talk to her grandfather or her brother. She then met Pragati outside Agarwal house and told her story. Pragati was surprised to hear the Praney didn't recognize her feelings, but what surprised her even more was that Adi fell in love with the girl he once claimed to hate.

Pragati: Mathilli, I know this isn't an easy decision for you. But you can't live your life alone mourning over what didn't happen with Praney. You need to move on, and maybe you should move on with Adi. He loves you a lot even though he is well aware that you love someone else.

Mathilli: But I haven't seen him in that manner.

Pragati: So what? At least you should give it a chance.

The whole night, Mathilli thought about what Pragati said. The next morning she called Adi and asked him to meet her where he proposed to her. Every second on his way there seemed like an eternity for Adi. Several questions were wandering in his mind. Mathilli had reached there before Adi: she was quietly staring at sunrise right by the water. Adi did not know what to say, so he quietly walked right next to her and watched the beautiful scenery.

Mathilli: Adi, I thought a lot about what happened yesterday. I appreciate your honesty and I'm glad that you expressed your feelings. Adi, I don't have an answer to your feelings right now. I still need time to figure things out.

Adi: I understand Mathilli. You can take all the time you need: you don't have to give me an answer right now.

Mathilli: Thanks Adi.

Adi: Your welcome…now can we get some breakfast? I haven't eaten anything since last night.

Adi and Mathilli went to a restaurant to get some breakfast. Within a few minutes, Adi cheered up the whole environment. It was as if nothing had happened between them. They were the same friends that met on a day to day basis.

Part 9

Adi and Mathilli continued to have their morning jogs even though football season was over. Sometimes they would have lunch during breaks at college. One day there was a bike race at the college. Surprisingly, Praney challenged Adi to a race.

Praney: Come on Adi, let's have another race. Maybe you might get lucky and win this time—in second place.

Adi: You're on.

Like last time, each rider had to have a girl passenger. None of the girls of the college wanted to sit with Adi since he lost last time. However, he was glad that he didn't have to ride with a girl who was in it for fame or money. However, Praney didn't miss out on insulting Adi about this fact.

Praney: What's the matter Adi, can't find a single companion?

Just then Adi felt two familiar arms wrap around his waist. He could tell by her embrace that it was Mathilli. Adi turned around to see her innocent face which bolstered his spirit by a hundred fold.

Praney: Since when did you start supporting him in bike races, Mathilli?

Mathilli: Since when did you start belittling people with your arrogance?

Praney: Mathilli, don't you know that he lost last time.

Mathilli: He may have lost the bike race last time. However, he just proved how much more mature he is than you. You threw several insults at him, but he just listened to you rather than beating you up. Praney, you proved to everyone in the last race that an inflated ego doesn't make you a winner. It seems like you need to be taught that lesson.

Praney: You are going to regret supporting this loser.

Mathilli just ignored what Praney said and held onto Adi even tighter. She then came a little closer to him and whispered in his ear

Mathilli: I know there is a winner inside of you Adi. Now show it to everyone.

In the meantime, Mallishka sat behind Praney who was completely overjoyed. However, Adi noticed that Mathilli wasn't shedding tears or going red from jealousy. Instead she was paying attention to him instead of Praney. Finallly, whistle was blown and the race had started. About halfway through the race, Mathilli noticed that a screw in the back of the bike was becoming loose. Instead of informing Adi about it, Mathilli secretly placed her fingers on it. Even though the back tire was constantly touching her fingers, Mathilli persisted to hold on to the screw until the race was over.

Adi didn't let Mathilli's faith down. He beat Praney by a few seconds. On one side, Praney was looking down in shame, while Mallishka just left in anger. On the other side, Adi was welcomed by a cheering audience. Pragati and a few of her friends, who witnessed the race, came running to Mathilli. When Adi turned around, he saw that Mathilli's hand was covered in blood. Adi grabbed her wounded hand to see where she was hurt and found her holding the screw. Adi rushed Mathilli to the hospital where she was given a few stitches. Afterwards, Adi questioned Mathilli about her actions in the car when he was dropping her home.

Adi: Why didn't you tell me that the screw was loose?

Mathilli: I couldn't let you lose.

Adi: Winning the race isn't as important as you! I can't bear to see you hurt!

Mathilli was touched by what Adi said. However, Adi didn't want to put her in an uncomfortable position, so he ended the conversation there.

After dropping Mathilli home, Adi received a call from his father.

Shekhar: Where are you Adi?

Adi: I just dropped Mathilli home.

Shekhar: Okay. Come home now, I need to talk to you.

When Adi reached home, he found his clothes packed in a bag.

Adi: Are we going somewhere, dad?

Shekhar: Yes, you are coming with me to London. I need your help at a business conference.

Adi didn't want to leave Mathilli alone, but Shekhar also needed him. Mayuri assured Adi that she would check up on Mathilli frequently and make sure that she's okay. Adi informed Mathilli that he will be out of country for a few days and left with his dad.

Part 10

Even though her brother and grandfather had returned, Mathilli felt lonely at times. She was actually missing Adi. She found herself thinking about him constantly. A few days later, Mathilli was elated to see Adi at college. She was about to approach him when one of his ex girlfriends came to him and embraced him.

Girl: Welcome back Adi, I really missed you.

Mathilli's face was red with anger and jealousy, and Janki Devi had witnessed this. She called Mathilli into her office.

Mathilli: You called me ma'm?

Janki: Yes Mathilli…have a seat. I wanted to give you some advice. I've noticed that you've been spending a lot of time with Adi. I suggest that you stay away from. These boys are trouble.

Mathilli. No ma'm. You're mistaken. Adi is a very nice person. He has a really warm heart…

Mathilli continued to talk about how wonderful of a person Adi is for a few seconds. She stopped midway when she realized what she was saying. She saw Janki Devi smiling at her as if she knew something.

Janki: Why did you stop? It seems as if you know Adi really well…I think he's become more than a friend Mathilli.

Mathilli: It's nothing like that.

Janki: Really? Then tell me, why were you always lost in your own world when Adi was gone? Why would you call him in London during your lunch breaks? Why were you jealous when you saw a girl hugging Adi?

Mathilli had no response to all these questions.

Janki: Pragati told me what happened with Praney. I think you have not only forgotten Praney, but fell in love with the right person…I think you should tell Adi how you feel.

Mathilli agreed with Janki Devi. She called Adi and asked him to meet her at the same gazebo that evening.

When Adi arrived there that evening, he found the gazebo decorated in the same way it was when he told Mathilli that he loved her. He found Mathilli waiting for him. Adi could sense that something was different about Mathilli. He noticed that she was looking at him differently that before.

Adi: Mathilli what's all this?

Mathilli: Adi, there's something I wanted to tell you.

Adi: What?

Mathilli: While you were gone…I couldn't stop thinking about. I couldn't pay attention to work. When I saw you in college today, I was really happy. And when I saw that girl hugging you, I felt like slapping her…Adi, in the past few days, I've realized that you've become a bigger part of my life. What I am trying to say is that I love you Adi. I was so stupid not to figure this out before. I know I should have said this earlier to you before…

Before Mathilli could continue, Adi pulled her closer to him and kissed her.

Adi: You have made this the happiest day of my life. I love you so much Mathilli.

They embraced each other and enjoyed the moment throughout the night.
