Part 6
It was the day of the big game. Janki Devi, her grandchildren, Mayuri, and Shekhar came to the game. Mathilli also invited Ankit, so he can spend some time with Pragati. Even Mallishka joined them and Praney, obviously, was too distracted by her to pay attention to the game. Fortunately, Adi noticed that Mathilli wasn't bothered by the fact that Praney was talking to Mallishka instead of cheering for her, which encouraged him to express his feelings to her after the game.
For the first part of the game, the rest of the team managed to put a good defense but the other team still had the upper hand. Eventually, Abhay signaled Adi and Mathilli to go into the field, and the two turned the whole scene around. Mathilli managed to steal the ball away from one of the opposing players, and she headed towards the goal. Throughout this whole time Adi was running by her side, and they would pass the ball back and forth to each other rapidly making it had for the other team to get control of it. The game ended, with Mathilli making the final goal that landed the team a victory. As soon as the referee announced the winner, Mathilli instinctively ran into Adi's arms. Although for Mathilli this was an expression of joy, it meant a lot for Adi. For a moment, he wanted time to freeze so he could hold her longer. However, they were soon surrounded by the rest of the teammates. They picked up Adi and Mathilli so they could see the crowd cheer for them.
Once the game was over, Jay invited Mathilli to a party in honor of their victory, and she willingly accepted the invitation. As Mathilli was leaving the building, Adi stopped out to her.
Adi: Mathilli
M: Hi, Adi.
Adi: That was a nice game.
M: I agree. I really enjoyed playing with you.
A: Same here…actually I wanted to talk to you.
M: Are you going to invite me for that party? If you are, don't worry, Jay already invited me?
A: So you are going?
M: Yeah.
A: Alright, I'll talk to you then.
M: As you wish…see you.
A: Bye.
As soon as Adi left, Praney came out of nowhere. Mathilli could tell that he was angry.
M: Hi Praney.
What Mathilli and Praney did not know is that Adi had heard her, and he hid in one corner to listen to their conversation.
P: What were you doing with Adi?
M: What are you talking about Praney?
P: I mean, why are you going to the party that he is going to?
M: Oh come on Praney, this party is for the team's win and Adi is part of the team. We couldn't have achieved this if he wasn't here.
P: You are giving him too much credit…he only thinks about himself.
M: Oh snap out of it Praney! That's what you think, have you tried to get to know him.
P: I don't need to…don't you remember what he did with those photographs of you and me.
M: Yes, I do. However, you may not know that Adi has apologized to me about that a long time ago, and this time no one forced him to. Adi is a good person, Praney. He seems tough and cold from the outside but if you get to know him, you'll learn that he has a warm and clean heart.
P: I can't believe you are saying this.
M: Why not? I've spent a lot of time with Adi in the last couple weeks, and he has always been there for me.
P: I don't know what he did to you, but listen one thing Mathilli. If you continue to keep a friendship with Adi, then you'll have to break your friendship with me?
M: What?
P: I'm serious. It's either me or Adi.
M: Praney, what you are asking of me is totally absurd. Adi is my friend and so are you. I expect you to respect my friends and my choices.
P: I guess I got my answer. This is the end of our relation.
M: You are the one who is ending it not me.
Praney just stormed of angrily while Adi reiterated their conversation in his mind. After this incident, Adi's love for Mathilli grew even more. She is one of the few people to recognize some good in him, and it meant a lot to him.
Part 7
The party was held at a beach this time. Mathilli had arrived at the party on time this time. All the guests gave her a round of applause. After thanking everyone, Mathilli started to look around for Adi, but he was nowhere to be found. She asked all her friends, but no one had seen them. She was about to call Adi, when her cell rang. It was no one other than Adi.
M: Adi, where are you?
A: I'm at the beach.
M: But I can't see you anywhere.
A: I'm not at the party…there is a gazebo nearby…I'm there.
M: What are you doing there?
A: Waiting for you?
M: Me?
A: Yeah, I need to talk to you alone…can you come over here?
M: Sure.
After walking for nearly ten minutes, Mathilli spotted a white gazebo and the back of a man. She assumed it was Adi and she walked a little faster to him. When she reached the gazebo, she was fascinated to see it decorated with red, white, and pink roses and candles. She curiously came inside the gazebo.
M: Adi?
Adi had not heard come, so he turned around in shock only to be mesmerized by her beauty. Mathilli was wearing a simple white dress that made her look like an angel. The two met midway. Mathilli's eyes were full of questions while Adi's eyes were full of love.
M: Adi what's all this?
Adi gently took hold of her hands and stared at her right in the eye. Mathilli could sense that something was different about him, but what?
A: There is something that I've wanted to tell you for some time.
M: What?
A: I love you.
Mathilli couldn't believe what she had just heard. Although she knew that Adi had a warm heart, she didn't expect him to fall in love.
A: I know that it sounds a little strange to you, but it's the truth. In fact, I probably wouldn't have realized that I was falling for you if mom and dad hadn't pointed out to the changes in me—because of you. Mathilli, I know that you still have feelings for Praney, and you may have only seen our relationship as friendship. But you have become more than a friend to me, and I wanted you to know how I felt. Today, I heard you and Praney talk after the game. When, I heard Praney ask you to choose between him and me, I felt as if my life would end there. I felt as if, I was going to lose you forever. For that one moment, I was scared more than ever, and I don't want to ever feel that fear again…I understand what you are going through, and I'm not going to pressurize you to make a decision. You had the right to know what I felt.
Mathilli continued to stare at him, but she couldn't help shedding a few tears at what Adi said. Adi casually wiped the tears off her cheek and continued to talk.
A: I'm willing to wait my whole life for you Mathilli. I would like you to give this some thought. It's your decision to accept or reject my love, and you have all the time you need to decide. Just remember, that I am still your friend and nothing can change this.
With this said, Adi quietly left Mathilli alone to ponder over what had just happened.
