Meet Ekta's modern Ganga

Saakshi Tanwar, who is playing Ganga in Ekta's version of Mahabharat, will be sporting a different look for the show. The Creative Head Suraj Rao gave us details.

About her look, he says, "People may term it a modern look for namesake but it is a normal one. We are using the same colour – white – for her costume. We have only changed the design a bit. But otherwise there is not too much of a difference. Manish (Malhotra) has tried to give her a fresh appearance as she is looking very nice and pretty. We have not played too much with her look so there is no need to compare the old and new Ganga."

Goddess Ganga is the mother of Bheeshma Pitamaha (Devrath) and she is the sister of Goddess Parvati. According to mythology Ganga originated from the head of Lord Shiva. She gave birth to seven children. She killed all seven by drowning them in the river but Bheeshma is considered as her 8th son.

'I know how to dance'

After winning the first season of Comedy Circus and successfully hosting Say Shaava Shaava, Ali Asgar now tests his dancing skills in Zara Nachke Dikha

You seem to be obsessed with reality shows nowadays.

I am not obsessed with reality shows; but I enjoy doing them because in reality shows I am not bound by a script. I have some creative freedom. It all began when I won the very first reality show (Comedy Circus) I took part in. Uska ek high hota hai. If I had not won Comedy Circus I would have been discouraged. Also, I have the time because I am doing just one serial at the moment.

Is money a motivating factor?

Definitely, money matters. Who doesn't want money today? In reality shows, aap masti bhi karte raho aur uske like aapko paise bhi mil rahe hain. What more can one ask for?

Now you are going to participate in a dancing reality show, Zara Nachke Dikha. Aren't you afraid that the joke could be on you this time?

It is not that I don't have any music sense or rhythm in me. It's just that I am not a professional or trained dancer. Neither have I taken Shiamak Davar's classes nor have I done any dancing reality shows before this. But I do know how to dance. I know that if I keep doing it, I will learn; I am getting to learn for free!

When did you discover your flair for comedy?

Comedy has been a part of me for a long time. After Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii my image became a bit serious. When Comedy Circus came along, I thought of having some fun. And all of a sudden people woke up to the realisation that I could do comedy too.

Talking about Kahaani..., don't you get bored of doing the same show for almost eight years?

Just tell me one thing - if I leave this show to do another serial, what novelty will that serial have? We do not have any stories left to tell. Of late, we are at the mercy of real life incidents; we pick them up as soon as they occur. Whether it's on Zee, Sony or Star Plus, we are just re-packaging the old things with new faces. There is a certain degree of loyalty in me and I enjoy a camaraderie with my team so I want to be a part of Kahaani till the end.

What is your off-screen relationship with costar Saakshi Tanwar?

She is like my friend, partner and buddy. It's a rare relationship. Saakshi and I are there for each other; and I am not saying it just for the sake of saying it. I share a similar relationship with Kiran (Karmarkar) too. We are like a family.

Does the maxim 'familiarity breeds contempt' hold true in the case of the Kahaani ... team?

We help each other but do not get into each other's personal space.

What if you had a sugar-coated bhabhi like Parvati in real life?

I would love to have a bhabhi (whether like Parvati or not); it would be good because she will offload some of my work pressure.

How would you rate the wives/women you have shared the screen with in Kahaani ... ?

I think Shweta (Kawatra) would be the best. Meeta (Vashisth) was good too. We started together so Shweta lent Pallavi's character a certain finesse.

Have you invited Ekta's ire after accepting the reality shows?

I have been very fortunate because I have never had any clash with her. She knows me very well. Before Kahaani too, I had done serials with her. I do not deny that I owe my success to Balaji. My best roles have come from Ekta but I believe in variety. I keep charging myself up by getting into these spaces where I can try out new things.

Given a choice, what would you choose between reality shows and fiction?

I love to flow with the tide; and right now reality is in. Besides, fiction shows make tremendous demands on your commitment.

People say that you look a lot like Rishi Kapoor...

I take it as a compliment. Rishi Kapoor has been one of the most natural actors in our industry; I am very fond of him. But I have never tried to copy him. If I resemble him, I can't help it.

A new love story in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii

Of late there are many new things happening in the very old show Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. After getting Trishna's character back, the show is now getting Chotu and Gauri back for a love story.

The role of Chotu is played by Bharat Chawda and Shivangi Sharma is essaying the role of Gauri. The two actors are returning after a gap of two months. Chotu and Gauri were married to each other. Chotu's character was evicted from the show as he was shown to be sentenced to prison and Gauri leaves the Agarwal house in anguish as Parvati sends Chotu to jail.

Nivedita Basu, the Creative head of Balaji says, "We are going to show the love story of a criminal. Chotu wants to start his life afresh with Gauri. Chotu will be released as his sentence in jail is completed and Gauri comes to see him. The two go ahead to live together, separate from the Agarwal house. This love track will run parallel to Trishna's track."

We wonder how long can one flog a dead horse?

Kiran Dubey on a social cause

Kiran Dubey is on a feel good trip. She has recently been spotted at events for a cause. We saw the pretty Kiran Dubey at the launch of a book on positive thinking with many of her small screen colleagues. Having done that Kiran has now joined hands with schools in Lokhandwala and Juhu to make eco- friendly Ganeshas for this upcoming festival.

"I've decided to give enough time to some cause which makes my soul feel strong," says Kiran

Elaborating she says, "With the help of children we are spreading the eco-friendly message. We have been encouraging people to make such Ganeshas as this will also help save marine life."

But why limit this to Lokhandwala and Juhu only? Well these are the places which are worst affected during the last days of the festival. Most of the people do the Ganesh visarjan (immersion) here so we chose these areas," she adds.

Kiran was last seen doing a cameo in Babul Ka Aangan. So apart from social causes what is there on her professional plate? "Well I'll be doing a film but I can't reveal anything about it as I have not signed the contract yet. All I can just tell you is that this film has been in talks since long for some controversy," she concludes.

Audiences will be surprised to see the on-screen vamp doing social work

TV stars in Bollywood C Kkompany

Balaji Motion Pictures' C Kkompany will have leading television actors like Saakshi Tanwar (Parvati), Hiten Tejwani (Karan) and Jatin (Ronak Sir).

Says Hiten, "It's quite interesting and different to what we do in our serials. In the film we are all TV actors working in Balaji who will be complaining to the Don about the company. Mithunda essays the role of the Don and overall in this film there are spoofs. I would just like to say - watch the film."

Jatin Shah adds, "We all are a part of the film but in small comic roles. I hope even the audience loves our presence." On his role, he says, "Mithunji is a gangster who invites all TV actors to his party and asks us about our company (Balaji). We talk about the problems that we face like not being allowed to go out of the sets during shooting hours and being made to continuously work for 2-3 days in spite of having fever and not to talk about actors fainting on the sets due to stress."

Vikas Sethi, who is also a part of film, says, "It's interesting. In the film Don played by Mithunda will confuse the audience when he will see me and ask - are you Prem (Kasauit Zindagi Kay) or Abhir (Kyunki) so just wait and watch."

The star cast includes Saakshi Tanwar, Hiten Tejwani, Jatin Shah, Priya Bhatija, Shubhangi Atre, Karan Patel, Vikas Sethi and many more.

INDIAN DESIGNERS THAT I FOLLOW… I love Anamika and Reena Dhaka. I am a die hard fan of their clothes. They are the right combination of funk and zing.

Kahaani to be replaced by Kasturi

If sources are to be believed then Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii will bid adieu to the television on the 2nd October and the show that will fill in the vacuum is none other than Balaji's Kasturi. And Kasturi will be replaced with Rajan Shahi's new show which is a love story.

A source from the channel says, "Earlier the new show produced by Rajan Shahi's Director's Kut was to replace Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. But Star doesn't want to take any chances by lunching its new show competing with the high profile 'Bigg Boss 2' that airs at 10:00 pm. That is why the channel has amended its plans and now Rajan's second show will air at 9:30 pm and Kasturi will replace Kahaani as it has its loyal audience. Rajan's new show is slated to go on floors from 24 August."

Another source from the sets of Kasturi says, "I have also heard this but I have not been told officially."

When contacted Rajan Shahi said, "I don't know about the slot and I don't care which slot it airs in. I am more worried about the shooting of the show. I haven't asked the channel. I would be happy with whatever slot they position my new show in."

Nivedita Basu, Creative Head Balaji, said, "I don't know anything about this. We haven't got anything from the channel as yet."

Keertan Adyanthaya, Star Plus G.M. denied the rumours and said, "No, its not true."

With speculations rife we too wonder which show will pay the price to accommodate a new show. Keep watching this space.
