    Chetan's back to school

After criticism of 'Greek' looking Mahabharat, actors told to change the way they act and dress.

Chetan Hansraj has just finished three weeks of a workshop where hehad to un-learn acting - apparently serial-style dramabaazi has become second nature to TV actors.

"We have done a workshop for three weeks, there they taught us about how to deliver dialogues," he said. So why does he need to learn these skills again? Because of Mahabharat.

"The feel is completely different when you do Mahabharat than when you do a daily soap," he said, "our teacher has seen the daily soap, and it brought us into a completely different way of thinking our lines and our acting. We get caught up in the daily soap every time we act, every time we deliver dialogue, but here we have to change our body language and everything else we do."

The show has been dwindling in the terms of viewership and came under attack for its eclectic look, including from veteran Alok Nath, who scoffed at the attempt to modernise a classic story.

Chetan defended the show, saying: "This is going to be a golden period of Mahabharat. When the kingdom of Hastinapur is thought of as having its prosperous period, there is going to be more colour and richness to it."

He said he "didn't care about the numbers of any show: I am an actor and my job is to act. These numbers don't mean anything to me."

He said that the look of the show might change when a generation moved on. "Lots of generations have passed, and the show started with a different generation," he said, "And surely in that era also trends used to change with time? Whenever there will be a leap, we will show changes in attire and in everything else."

He said it wasn't emulating the Greeks. "It is a warrior's look and not a Greek look. If warriors don't look martial then their look is of no use. A warrior has to have body armor on."

Chetan's also reached the finale of Kaun Jeetega Ticket To Bollywood and says he's confident of winning. "We three are strong contenders and I am quite confident about my winning, let's see what happens," he said.

It is Eid-ul-fitr, the day that brings to end a month of fasting and penance. The festival is traditionally celebrated with good food, gifts and lots of fun. Is the festival still celebrated with the same traditions and gaiety as before?

    Ali Asgar:
Like every year, I will be celebrating this Eid with my family. I will go for Eid namaaz in the morning. Relatives and close friends will visit us. This year I plan to book a new car (a Corolla) on this day.

Unfortunately, I couldn't fast at all this Ramadan as I was busy with my shows Zara Nachke Dikha and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. But my wife observed all the rozas.

    by Tellywatch News Desk

    Oct 07, 2008, Mumbai

After eight-long years, 'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii', on Star Plus, is coming to an end this week with a happy ending.

'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii' had everything that family audiences were looking for- tradition, values and family bonding. In the past eight years, the Agarwal family has become an integral part of the Hindi-speaking households in the country. Each character in 'Kahaani…' has become iconic and inspirational. The viewers have loved Parvati (Sakshi Tanwar), Om (Kiran Karmarkar), Kamal (Ali Asgar) and hated Trishna (Mita Vasisht), Pallavi (Achint Kaur) and this reflects the success of the daily soap.

Speaking about the successful run and its finale, Anupama Mandloi, Senior Creative Director, Star Plus said, "'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii', a show that created history and a landmark for Indian television, ends on the Oct 9th 2008. It is a time of nostalgia, sadness and yet a feeling of triumph for all those associated with the show. This week will be a tribute and a farewell to one of the biggest successes on television."

    Romance to replace Kahaani

Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii ends this Friday and a new show, from Ekta Kapoor again, is scheduled to replace it.

The show has tentatively been titled Kaisi Mohobbat Hai, sources in the production house said. Kahaani will end its run after eight years.

"This show's theme is a romance: a comedy about a girl and boy who fall in love with each other but their families, being rivals, resist the lovers," the source said, "But the couple is madly in love with each other and are prepared to do anything for each other." The plot is the classic story of Romeo and Juliet retold, but also has a forerunner in Bollywood.

The show is said to be based on the movie Saudagar, which starred one-hit wonder Vivek Mushran Manisha Koirala, Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar.

The show is expected to start after Kahaani but it is learnt that only the female lead of the show has been finalized and that is why the show is not expected to start immediately. Filming of the show naturally, has also not start at full pace. Meanwhile STAR Plus had anyway planned to telecast special episodes celebrating Diwali and it might be that the show begins when the specials end.

Kahaani has been ruling the 10 pm slot since its inception eight years ago. It was one of the pioneers of the family drama style that is now common across channels. Before this Ekta also ended another of the popular shows, Kasauti Zindagi Kay, which was replaced by Kis Desh Main Hai Mera Dil.

    Goodbye, Parvati

Sakshi Tanwar, Parvati of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, says the fact that the show ends this Friday after an eight-year run hasn't yet sunk in for her.
'Right now, this fact has not sunk in that I will not come here tomorrow for shooting,' said Sakshi, 'I'm not missing anyone or anything because of this: at this moment I am very much part of this show, and I do not want to think about tomorrow.'
The actress added that she was nervous about shooting on the last day of the epic serial.

'There is a mixture of emotions I'm going through right now, difficult for me to even describe them to you,' she said, 'But we are definitely not feeling good! It is the feeling of a wonderful journey coming to an end, a culmination.'

'According to me whether show completes eight years or one year - and not only shows but films or plays also - become hits only when they emotionally connect with their audience. We have been successful building that connection and I think that was the USP of our show. There are lots of happy, emotional memories of this show.'

'It was amazing to see how people would watch the show religiously and stay aware of all its twists and turns,' she said, 'eight years ago I would never have thought that I would do this so long but God has been extremely kind to me. I am happy with my image, which I got because of this show. It is always better to have a good image than none or a bad one. I feel nice when people shower their love and respect on me!'

Sakshi recounted an anecdote of what Kahaani meant to people by giving an example from her own family.

'This is a very personal story of my life which I have never spoken of before,' Sakshi said, 'My family always laughs about it now but it was this time when my Bhabhi was pregnant for the second time. Her labour pains started around 9.30. She told my mother about her pain and that she was ready to go to hospital. She was quite pale at the time. My mother looked at her watch and told her: 'thodi der ruk ja, Kahaani dekh ke jaatein hai'! My father got really angry and told her you can watch the repeat telecast too! '

We will certainly remember you Parvati!

    Kahaani crew in emotional farewell

After eight years of tremendous success, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii ends this Friday. We spoke to the actors on the show to know from them what their thoughts were.
Kiran Karmarkar, who plays Om, says he'll miss everything about the show. "It'll be the set that I'll miss the most," he said of the Agarwal family home he acted in since October 2000, "it will hurt me when I see some other show shooting on this set."
"We all have celebrated eight Navratris, eight Ganeshotsavs, eight Diwalis, eight Holis and all the other festivals together for the last eight years on this set, I will miss every moment of it…".

Ali Asgar, who plays Kamal Chachu, said: "through all this time I've shared a very special relationship with each of my co-stars, we all were like a family". "It gave us all a very big break and immense fame," he said.

Jatin Shah, who played the character of Adi on the show added: "It's been 12 years now that I've stayed away from my home and Kahaani is like my family. Whenever I was here on the sets I always thought of myself as being at home. I'll miss all the gaana and masti which we used to do offscreen".

The serial changed the lives of all its stars to a greater extent believes Priya Val aka Aditi. Onscreen, she says she will miss all those scenes which she shot with her co-star Archana (who played Pragati in the show) and with Parvati. "Not to forget, I'll miss Ali ki masti and the way he used to make everyone laugh on the sets", says the girl.

Trishna has always been a very bizarre and funny character and this is what Mita Vashisht will miss the most. "I will miss my character badly… I played a very different type of negative role. It was very interesting and totally independent; I just loved playing Trishna. Apart from that, I'll definitely miss the interaction with the team members and being a part of one of the major shows on television," says Mita.

    Iss Friday, Kahaani khatam

Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii started on October 16, 2000 will be ending the same way - by celebrating Diwali on the sets.
On last day of the shoot, everyone - the stars, the staff and the writers - was quite emotional. All the people involved with the show made it a point to be in attendance for the last shoot of the serial, which went on for eight years.
Dadi, who was one the main characters and has always been on the show, could not stop her tears. The last show, to be telecast on Friday, will also have flashed of the first show from 2000.

The last episode will begin with Parvati making a rangoli at her door. People who had acted in the serial earlier also dropped in to give a couple of shots. Everyone made it a point to speak to Sakshi and Kiran. The final show will have special entries Harshad Chopra and Panchi Bora.

Sakshi appeared extremely emotional and nervous about the last shot of her most famous role, but she controlled herself and gave a perfect take as would be expected of the cool Parvati. The cast cut a cake after giving their last show.

Some actors who were earlier seen on th show, but disappeared over a period of time will also be a part of this episode. Audiences will get to see Achint Kaur - Pallavi, Lily Patel- Dadi,Chetan Hansraj - Sasha,Mansi Varma - Monalika ,Sachin Sharma - Krishna,Raj Singh - Ashu,Priya Wal - Aditi,Bharat Chowda - Ishaan / Chotu, Jatin Shah - Aditya Suyesh Mehra, once again.

In case you want to know what you will get to see in the show: Sasha will get married to Gun and Kamal will get married to Pallavi. Trishna, incidentally, will be sent to jail. That is how the show will ultimately, after years of trauma and unhappiness, have a happy ending. Kahaani has aired more than 1700 episodes. The last episode airs on Friday October 9 at 10pm.
