Another jolt to Aroona's Doli
By: Shaheen Parkar
March 30, 2007

As if constant delays weren't bad enough, actor Anuj Saxena has now walked out of the show after shooting 10 episodes

Inteha Ho Gayi... intezaar ki: Aroona Irani
It looks like this bride and groom will continue waiting for a while longer. Though it has been long-in-the making, there's fresh trouble for Aroona Irani's soap, Doli Saja Ke, slated for SaharaOne.

The inordinate delays have resulted in actor Anuj Saxena quitting the show even before it is slated to go on air by April-end.

Busybody

Saxena has shot for more than 10 episodes, so a re-shoot with a fresh incumbent could prove daunting. It is learnt that Irani has submitted four audition tapes to SaharaOne to pencil in on the replacement.

Says Saxena, "I opted out of Doli Saja Ke out of choice. Presently, I am very busy with other commitments, so it was better to part ways.

My production house Maverick is presenting the film Dulha Mil Gaya (starring Shah Rukh Khan, Sushmita Sen and Fardeen Khan), besides some other projects."

Kahani mein twist

No Time: Anuj Saxena
It is learnt that Saxena had an amicable parting with the channel. Earlier, the actor was seen in SaharaOne's shows like Asha Parekh's Kuuch Pal Saath Tumhara, Raja Mukerji's Prratima and Kinnari Mehta's Solhah Singaarr.

"May be a few months down the line something interesting may come along. I will look at it," adds Saxena who has featured in soaps like Kkusum and Rishhton Ki Dor in recent times.

Doli Saja Ke is a family saga about the trials and tribulations of a father and daughter.

Somewhat similar to the Anil Kapoor film Lamhe, the story takes off after the wife dies giving birth and the father becomes indifferent to the offspring.

Saxena plays the role of the husband who loses his wife (Surbhi Tiwari). The daughter (Barkha Bisht) is considered unlucky and has to live with the curse of being responsible for her mother's death.

Jaya Mathur essays the role of the second wife. Manoj Bidvvai and Arzoo Govitriker also feature in the drama.

Irani has produced shows like Des Main Nikkla Hoga Chand (Star), Rabba Ishq Na Hove and Mehndi Tere Naam Ki (both Zee) and Vaidehi (Sony).

Incidentally, she was also slated to produce Dor, starring Muskan Mihani, for SAB, which never took off despite a long shoot schedule.

'Doli Saja Ke will not replace Kituu'

Off We Go! Kituu Sabb Jaantii Hai
Manish Goswami's Kituu Sabb Jaantii Hai will be yanked off air next week.

But the new show in the 10 pm slot will not be Aroona Irani's Doli Saja Ke.

Says Kalyan Sundaram, programming head, SaharaOne, "The last episode of Kituu will air on April 6 but we are not replacing it with a soap.

Comedy Champions will air during that hour. Doli Saja Ke will air April-end."

Kaisi yeah 'Kahaani' hai !

Post her melodramatic stint in Sony's Bigg Boss, Rupali Ganguly went all over town proclaiming that she will be making a comeback in her erstwhile soap, Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki. Her character Gayatri would supposedly have a track with Sameer (Mazher Syedd) in May where there would be glimpses of her in special episodes.
All was well till the announcement was made. But ironically it came to her knowledge prior to the shoot that she was just one of the mysterious raaz of 'Teen Kahaniyan' special bonanza. The skeleton in the cryptic chest was nothing but revelations of her murder. Alas, Rupali was left with no choice but to comply with Balaji as a true professional.

Earlier too, Miss Ganguly had backed out of her only assignment, a play titled See No Evil, Hear No Evil. Reason: She was miffed about certain remarks made by a co-actor.

Career-wise the status quo of this Bong actor spells, 'unemployed'. All she needs to get back into action is a Bigg show with a Bigg production house!

Love actually;
Kahaani
Batuk aur Mythili Ki

Kahaani mein wist… did you know that the Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki lead actress Mythili aka Shalini Chandran (Parvati's accountants daughter) from the younger generation and the latest wicked-comic entry Batuk aka Mahesh Kumar (the ruffian) are actually a couple? Not just that but both actually share a cosy live-in relationship. We got the couple's inside story just for you!

< =1.1>

Batuk was selected for the role after he was spotted picking up and dropping Mythili on the sets everyday. To make life easier, Ekta offered him a job and they have been together since. Mahesh tells us that the two met while shooting for a short film titled Kaun in Delhi. "Aur film ke khatam hote hote hamara rishtaa shuru hogaya! Shalini adds, "What I liked about him the most was his caring nature as a co-star. We started off as good friends, we liked being with each other and we would motivate each other to act better. Though the film did not materialise, our relationship did!"

Few know that he has been the face of many print ads and has been in the city for three years followed by Shalini four months ago. "I always wanted to act professionally but I was worried about finishing my studies. My brother encouraged me and here I am."

How has their live-in experience been? "Well our parents keep coming. Also things have changed, when you are in an affair, you only spend 2-3 hours with the partner, the practical stuff is overlooked. When you live together the nitty-gritty's surface, your clothes, food, other habits, manners--all of that is not a rosy picture."

So has living-in scared the love away? "No, they reply in consensus. Shalini adds, "We both are homely so it works best for us, we enjoy being at home, lazing around. We like to decorate our place, and it feels lovely to be together."

And we wish it stays that way! Write to us your opinion on the blooming relationships of the new generation on TV. Which Jodi do you think is most likely to be hooked together?

Real life premi v/s reel life lover

Told you about the Mythili - Batuk love story on the sets of Kahaani Ghar Ghar ki. We find a chink in the armour now.

Mythili shares a love relationship with Pranay aka Jeetu Malkhani in the serial. However, as her boyfriend is also a part of the cast there have been certain constrains and cold vibes as the two actors do not get along.

We spoke to Mahesh aka Batuk and he replied in a Ho-Hmmm fashion, finally quoting, "theek hai, serial ki demand hai. Ektaji jo chahati hai vahi hoga. Apna apna kaam kar rahe hai. On the sets, we all are good friends and work professionally -sab kaam se kaam rakhte hai; baki apni a private life hai."

Right we get that, 'we are professional friends' bit. We will keep you updated if some sparks fly, which we're sure they will, eventually!

B eing model Dipannita Sharma's sister, model- ling would have been a foregone conclusion for Aruni- ma Sharma. She reasons, "I wasn't model material. Neither do I have the height nor the looks." Instead, she did her masters in Food, Science and Nutrition. And then she got married. Shar- ma says, "I wasn't doing any- thing after marriage. I decided to give acting a try. But I was clear that I didn't want to be just another face in the crowd. I got pictures shot, distributed them to various production houses. In no time, I had landed my first job." Though she debuted in Remix ( Star One), she treats Kasamh Se (Zee) as her big break. She remarks, "I had to audition for Raano's character. Initially, I'd never thought that viewers will like my character so much. Each character has been well etched out. Hard work and sincerity pays. All the praise is extremely flattering." She describes Raano as a seri- ous and righteous person. The earlier episodes showed her as an insecure character but now Ranno is shown well groomed and confident; "I'm not at all similar to Ranno. She is stu- dious, but I'm not all that seri- ous. I think Ranno is a hard-line character because she bottles up her emotions which make her rude and angry. I am more chilled-out and express my feel- ings easily," she says. Sharma empathises with her character but insists, "Unlike her, I can see the grey shades in a person and a situation." Her camaraderie with her on- screen sisters Prachi Desai (Baani) and Roshni Chopra (Piya) is something she boasts of: "We all have sisters in real life. It's easier to get the chemistry right on screen." Saying she relies on Dipanita, she adds, "She doesn't give me acting tips. But I make sure to follow her make-up tips." Happily married, Sharma also depends on her husband Amit Verma's support. "We've been married for three years now. Amit works for a multinational company. Initially, the erratic schedules were difficult for him to handle because he's got a nine to five job. "But now, he's adjusted to it, thankfully. I do get annoyed at times because I would have loved to have some time for my family and myself. Then I think, it was a well-thought decision on my part to act in serials so I should not complain," she smirks. Besides infrequent appear- ances in Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki (Star Plus), Sharma isn't asking for more. "Its simply not possi- ble," she concludes.

Where does Renuka fit in Star Parivaar?
By: Shaheen Parkar

The grand dames: Sakshi Tanwar and Renuka Shahane in a promo of the Star Parivar Awards 2007

Even though Renuka Shahane is now the face of Sony in Jeete Hai Jiske Liiye, she is a contender for the Star Parivaar Awards 2007!

If this looks a bit strange, it is because this year's gala is celebrating actors and shows on the channel of the past five years — Renuka finds mention because of her performance in Asha Parekh's Kora Kagaz! As this is the fifth edition of the awards, the channel is celebrating a high-five.

The event will be held in May at south Mumbai's National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA).

According to Harsh Rohatgi, GM (content and communications), Star, "The Star Parivaar awards celebrates characters and not actors.

We have all the well-known names from the shows of the past years for this edition of the awards."

Past v/s present

Star Parivaar provides a platform for the viewers to vote for their favourite characters. So the nominations are for the best bahu, best pati, best beti, best saas.

Apart from these popular categories, there is also for the first time, a Hall of Fame, which will also be decided by the Star viewers.

This category includes Smriti Z Iraani, Sakshi Tanwar, Dolly Sohi who will be competing with actors from Star's earlier soaps like Neena Gupta (Saans), Renuka Shahane (Kora Kagaz) and Aroona Irani (Des Mein Nikkla Hoga Chand).

There are also special awards for members of soap families who have been with the audience over five years.

The awards gala has a Musical Broadway as its theme. Expected to perform are the Saans couple Neena Gupta-Kanwaljeet, Kiran Kumar-Aroona Irani to young couples like KT-Lakshya and Prachi-Neev besides Prerna.

The event telecast on Star Plus, has popular characters also hosting the event. There is also a red carpet and several pre and post event bashes of the Parivaar awards.

Music for the mind!

Ever heard of 'brain music therapy'? Medical researchers have looked precisely there - in the brain - to find a solution to our daily whine, STRESS.

A study in the journal of the American Medical Association found music decreased blood pressure and enhanced the performance of surgeons. And the journal of pediatric health care reported infants who listen to music during circumcision feel less pain, and maintain a steady heart rate. In fact music therapy was up to 80% effective in reducing stress, inducing sleep, and overcoming anxiety.

Let's find out from some avid music buffs from the telly circle about the rhythms that put them in a positive and recharged frame of mind.

Twinkle Bajpai

Any musical form is soothing for me, except rock music. I am all ears for classical, particularly thumari. I have affinity for Sufi music. Listening to Abida Parveen and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan makes me feel internally good. It is very distressing. When I am low, Ab Dard Se Mera Daman Bhar De Ya Allah from Sajda a Jagjit Singh-Lata Mangeshkar album is my all time favourite. I even enjoy Jaspinder Narula and Asha Bhonsle. I can even listen to Himesh Reshamiyaa. Music is my passion and I indulge in it daily.

Jay Bhanushali

Whenever I am in my vanity van I tune in to music. Anything which makes me tap my feet is a turn on. I love rock music. My current favourite is Adnam Sami's latest track teri yaad. I can't recall the lines right now. Songs make me feel refreshed which is so important for an actor.

Jayaa Mathhur

I am an all time Jagjit Singh fan. Wo Kagaz Ki Kashti touches me the most, and a special reason for liking it is that my uncle Sudarshan Fakir has penned the lyrics. I also am into hip-hop and funky music. Talking about singers, Sonu Nigam, Asha Bhonsle and Kishore Kumar figure in my choicest list. I am also fond of ssinging but don't croon publicly.

Kiran Dubey

I enjoy anything which soothes my mind. But nazam and ghazals are my close to my heart. Ahmed Hussain and Mohamed Hussain from Jaipur are my favourite singers and they happen to be my fans. I am fond of their talent. Asha Bhonsle is one singer whom I love to hear for wide range and immense variety. I also appreciate world music, which is played in the Osho commune.

Poonam Gulati

I love hip-hop, filmy music and even classic songs, particularly which pep up my mood. Bryan Adams and Sonu Nigam are two of my favoured singers. Everything I do by the former is my evergreen song. I also listen to sombre numbers but rarely.
