No change overs!

Is Manish Malhotra's sickness the reason why Parvati wore the same saree for a week? Find out for yourself!

Forget scheming sister-in-laws and long lost stepsons, the favourite bahu of the Agarwal family is going through another kind of major crisis - her clothes. Parvati (Sakshi Tanwar), has been in the same white and magenta saree for the past week.

So is Balaji cutting down budgets or is this an astrological guidance to increase TRP? From what we hear it's nothing but the fact that Sakshi's designer for the show - Manish Malhotra- is unable to work with Sakshi as he is very sick. Manish found it difficult to even talk but he did manage to tell us that he has been down with a fever for the past five days. "One of the antibiotics that were prescribed to me did not suit me and my entire body broke out in rashes. Right now I'm housebound. I'm unable to go out and it is very frustrating. I coordinate my work with my team from home."

Parvati, who was proclaimed dead in the serial, reinvented herself as Janki Devi. She needed to look completely different and Ekta Kapoor's good friend, Manish took up the challenge to design Parvati's new look after the leap in the serial. The new look involved a complete image change in terms of her clothes, hair and even resulted in Sakshi losing weight.

All we can say is that although it's Manish who seems to have been lying low due to his illness but its poor Parvati who has to wear the same saree day after day!

Roopali back with Balaji

Roopali Ganguly and Balaji have buried the hatchet, she is back on Balaji's Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii.

It seems that success and popularity can bring new life to any relationship in the industry. And who would know it better than Roopali Ganguly, who is back in the popularity circuit post-Bigg Boss. The latest buzz is that Balaji and Roopali have buried the hatchet and the actress is making a comeback (as Gayatri) in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. Although Roopali is busy with her ad film production company, she will be back on the show within a month. She will first make a special appearance in the special combination episode on Monday, after which she will start shooting regularly for the show. Since Bigg Boss has given a new lease of life to most of its participant's careers and turned them into them household names, Balaji wants to cash in on Roopali's success.

Needless to say, the actress is very excited about her comeback in the biggest production house in the television industry. "Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii is one show that I have enjoyed and I admire most of the actors who have made it one of the longest running shows on small screen. I just shot for the special episode, and I am going to start shooting regularly within a few weeks," says Roopali.

So, are all the issues with Balaji resolved? Roopali says, "Those were all rumours and I always had a healthy professional relationship with Balaji. In fact, when I was busy with my other projects; Balaji did not replace me in the serial. They instead chose to discontinue my character which I think is very nice on their part. I am really thankful to them for calling me back."

Commenting on life post-Bigg Boss, Roopali says, "After staying in the Bigg Boss house for such a long time, any normal person will need a long break. Bigg Boss definitely helped my career. But I guess, Balaji called me because only I can portray Gayatri's character."

Earlier in the Bigg Boss house, Roopali had a big fight with her roommates when they were bitching about Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. "All of them were bitching about me for doing a regressive show like Kahaani... Being a television actor I stood up for my show. It was actually very funny watching people badmouthing television, when in reality, they will stoop to any level to work in a daily show," she says.

Star's primetime K-serials unite for mega episode

MUMBAI: In an attempt to ramp up activity on the channel, Star Plus has lined up a two day primetime programming treat for its viewers with an extended episode that will combine its biggest ratings drivers Kahaani…, Kyunki…. and Kayamath on 26 and 27 March from 10 pm - 11.30 pm.

Star India general manager - content and marketing Harsh Rohatgi says it will create a "visual spectacle," for which the channel is hoping to rake in its "infrequent and lapsed viewers onto the show" as the plots for the three stories will converge into one grand episode.

A refreshed programming initiative is primarily executed to create and retain the buzz on the channel, adds Rohatgi.

To build the hype off-air, a mutli-media campaign will break tomorrow on outdoor, radio and print.

Promising to unfold three big secrets, the theme will revolve around a party thrown by Parvati Bhabhi (from Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii) in which the families of Kyunki and Kayamath will be invited.

However, the question is whether the marathon episode will be able to keep viewers hooked? Rohatgi believes the creativity will surely sustain the viewers as Ekta Kapoor has roped 80 actors performing working round the clock for over five days and overseen by five directors and three units teams for the single episode.

Parvati and Tulsi, the two leading ladies of Ektaa Kapoor's long-running soaps 'Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki' and 'Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabi Bahu Thi', respectively, will wage a war in a 90-minute mega episode Monday.

The theme of the episode - to be aired at 11 p.m. on STAR Plus - will revolve around a party thrown by Parvati of 'Kahaani...' to which the families of 'Kyunkii...' and recently launched 'Kayamath' will be invited. Weaving and carrying the three stories forward, this special episode will reveal three big secrets from each show.

Since the World Cup is on and cricket mania has gripped the nation, Balaji Telefilms, headed by Ektaa, has come up with this unique idea of merging their three serials to lure the viewers and keep its TRPs intact.

'March 26 is a non-cricket day and it was Ektaa's idea to merge the three serials together. It is scripted like a film. In this special episode, Parvati and Tulsi find out each other's secrets. At one point you will find Parvati holding a gun to Tulsi's head,' Nivedita Basu, Balaji's creative head, told IANS on telephone.

'We have crafted it in such a manner that once the special show will be over, all three stories will go their separate ways,' added Nivedita. 'We started shooting the episode Wednesday and will shoot till Sunday.'

At least 80 actors are working round the clock and five directors are monitoring them along with three unit teams.

Kaun hai Krishna Tulsi ka rapist? What will happen to Prachi when she knows

Balaji's three TRP rakers will open merge in Monday's episode and unfold all mystery by 11:30pm on Tuesday

The drama will take place at the Aggarwal house as Kyunki and Kayamath parivars will be on the invitee list. The Masked dance drama with Arabian Nights theme party will reveal three big secrets family secrets that have been responsible to keep the shows TRP's high strung.

So how did the idea cook up? Balaji creative head Nivedita Basu explains with pride, "Since Monday and Tuesday there won't be any world cup matches, Ekta

had this idea to combine all the three shows into one. The episodes will run like an unscripted drama, and you will find Parvati holding a gun at Tulsi's head. It's been very difficult shooting for the two episodes. Since this means coordinating with 80 actors, technicians, directors, script writers;all ensuring that no loose ends are left."

We quite agree on that as getting 80 actors under one roof to shoot a mlange of emotions isn't going to be a cake walk. Balaji is shooting round the clock for over five days. Five creative heads, 50 junior artists, three directors, three dedicated units and four sets are designed for the episode. Without debate the money spent is huge, making it a sure affair to remember!

Telly Chakkar team is not going to miss Tulsi maiya's reaction when a gun held to her forehead. However in public interest we warn discretion for everybody with a weak heart. Is Ekta afraid of Paresh Rawal?

Kapoor has planned a two-day special of Kyunki, Kahaani and Kayamath to upset the actor's co-production Teen Bahuraniyan, airing on Zee tonight

Staring today, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Kayamath will be blended into one mega soap, called Teen Kahaaniyaan, Teen Raaz, Do Anokhe Episodes, as a special two-part series on Star Plus.

Part one will be aired on Monday from 10 pm to 11.30 pm, while part two will air on Tuesday.

This comes in the light of Star's biggest rival Zee launching a brand new show called Teen Bahuraniyaan, co-produced by veteran actor Paresh Rawal.

Balaji czarina Ekta Kapoor apparently wants to ensure that the new show gets little to no attention on its opening day tomorrow, and hence has launched a massive publicity stunt for her Star dramas.

Common thread

Says a source from Balaji, "It's the biggest special show on television and will been seen over two days.

That's 100 minutes of programming, 80 artists, 50 junior artists, four sets, three directors, and five creative directors who will be working on the project."

Apparently, it's also the costliest set ever made. Balaji is rumoured to have spent Rs 1 crore for four sets (constructed at Sankraman Studios) for this two-episode special.

Adds the source, "The artistes have been shooting non-stop for the last five days. It's a combined episode of Balaji's prime time Star Plus dramas, which will be interlinked."

'Star' wars

Meanwhile, Zee's Teen Bahuraniyaan will debut tonight in the 10.30 pm slot. The new show, co-produced by Paresh Rawal and Hemal Thakkar, will have a fresh cast of actors.

Rajesh Joshi (one of the original writers of Kyunki) has been roped in to script Teen Bahuriyaan, while Sapna Joshi (who has directed many soaps) is directing the serial.

Says Paresh Rawal, "I wanted to make a family drama revolving around the saas- bahu, but with a difference."

Is he afraid that Balaji is coming up with a spectacular special event on the same day? "Not at all. I am not competing with anybody. Besides, I'm sure Ekta isn't scared of anybody, least of all me. I have great respect for her.

The kind of tenacity and talent she has is remarkable. I am looking forward to learning from her. In fact, I want to approach her for building a drama theatre in the future."

Suspense and theatrics!

Janki devi aka Parvati will throw a special party in tonight's episode of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii. This episode will run into Kyunki and Kayamath's time slot as one mega show.

Says a Balaji source, "The party will have an Arabian Nights theme with heavy, ornate draperies in green and gold silk."

Sixty scenes and 10 songs have been shot for the special. Adds the source, "Tulsi and Parvati will dance to Hoton Pe Aisi Baat from Jewel Thief.

Three big secrets from the past will be revealed in this special episode: In Kahaani, it will finally be revealed who the skeleton in the trunk belongs to, while in Kyunki Krishna Tulsi's rapist will finally be revealed.

Meanwhile, Kayamath will reveal the secret to Monish Behl's dark side, which he has been hiding for 20 years."

Aroona Irani's item song for Ektaa

Mumbai, March 26 (IANS) Almost four decades after actress Aroona Irani sizzled on screen to R.D. Burman's song 'Dilbar dil se pyare' in 'Caravan', she will dance to the same number again for episodes of Ektaa Kapoor's 'Teen Kahaaniyan, Teen Raaz' to be telecast Monday and Tuesday.

'This was Ektaa's idea. And, of course, I couldn't say no to her. She's such a sweetheart,' Aroona told IANS.

'In fact, I originally performed the 'Dilbar' number with Ektaa's father Jeetu-ji (Jeetendra). Those days I'd constantly run into Shobha-ji when she used to drop in to meet her husband. Then Ektaa was born. Now she is a grown-up girl. But she isn't the least aware of how big she has become. That's the secret of her success,' she added.

The veteran actress is currently acting in Ektaa's long-running soap 'Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki' and calls it one of her most interesting roles.

So how did the 'Dilbar' reprise happen?

'Very simple!' said Aroona. 'Ektaa asked, I agreed. Of course, our choreographers Harshal and Vitthal have made the steps very different. And I've performed the song in a sari, whereas in the original I had danced in banjaran (gypsy) costumes. All this makes a lot of difference. But I really enjoyed myself.'

Aroona's own production house is about to unleash two daily soaps.

'The first - called 'Doli Sajake' - starts April 30 on Sahara. I've given myself a role in the soap. The second is for Zee. Our movies just don't have a proper place for an actress like me. I'm keeping myself as busy as possible. I want to die working,' she added.

Who's the doughtier-in-law?

Reportedly Balaji bahus Smriti Iraani and Sakshi Tanwar refused to shoot with each other for Ekta's special three-in-one episode due to ego problems.

The much-hyped Teen Kahaaniyaan, Teen Raaz and Do Anokhe episode, which is a merger of three soaps Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Kayamath, did not see popular bahus Tulsi Virani (Smriti Iraani) and Parvati Agrawal (Sakshi Tanwar) sharing screen space.

If sources are to be believed, Smriti Iraani and Sakshi Tanwar were so pre-occupied with some ego issues that they refused to team up in this celebrated episode. Even Ekta Kapoor failed to get them to act together.

Reliable sources at Balaji Telefilms inform that elaborate sequences featuring the two bahus were on the cards but the actresses begged out of the schedule by citing date problems. This led the production house to rewrite the scenes and settle for phone conversations between the two.

When quizzed about it, Sakshi Tanwar refused to acknowledge the cold war. She said, "It's not true. The phone conversations were always a part of the script right from beginning. Also, as per story requirements the characters were never supposed to see each other."

Our sources, however, confirm that the actresses would come up with lame excuses to avoid each other. "We didn't have any scenes with Tulsi and Parvati together as they refused to give us combination dates. Both would come up with lame excuses for not making it. These special episodes had to be shot over a period of five days. If Smriti gave dates on March 21, Parvati gave us dates on March 22 and so on. In fact, one particular day one shot in the morning shift from 7 am to 2 pm and the other shot between 2 pm and 10 pm. The war between the two is definitely hotting up," says a source from the production house.

Reportedly, the leading ladies had a minor tiff when they had appeared on Kaun Banega Crorepati, then hosted by Amitabh Bachchan. Apparently, the duo had differences while zeroing down on the right option.

Adds a cast member, "We're no strangers to the fact that Smriti and Sakshi can't see eye-to-eye. In fact, they are known to give each other a cold shoulder whenever they meet."

Smriti Iraani remained unavailable for comment.

Bad Trishna Agarwal is waiting for the 'Good'

Meeta Vashist aka Trishna Agarwal of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki fame is eagerly awaiting the release of her much delayed film Good Sharma.

Meeta finished the shooting of the movie almost a year and a half back but the movie is still not out. The film is made by International Co Production and has been delayed since the producers are busy distributing rights. Some of the other cast of the film includes Dalip Tahil and Shehnaz Patel.

The actress says of her role in Good Sharma, "I will be seen in a positive role here. I'm paired opposite Pankaj Kapoor."

Meeta currently plays a funny negative character called Trishna in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki. She says that she is really enjoying playing the character.

Apart from acting, Meeta has also sung with Shubha Mudgal for Pradeep Sarkar's Choodiyan, staring Rani Mukherjee, "I have sung the rap part of the song. I'm also to perform my play, 'Lul Ded', which is a solo performance. The play is going to take place on 28 and 29 April at N.C.P.A. and is about a 14th century poet."

She says that she is reinventing herself because "lambi race ka ghoda tabhi hi bante hain."

"I am happy with all what I am doing", signs off Meeta.
