March 1, 2010 Written Update

CM is unable to believe Jyoti refused to sign the letter and goes to call her herself. KK picks up and hearing CM's offer of crores he tells her that his daughter will always side with the truth. Jyoti takes the phone from him and gives CM a proper reply, letting her know that she will never agree to any offer if it means she will have to lie and hangs up. CM thinks that she needs to go about this another way.

In Neelam's home they come to learn that it would take a whole year for the divorce to fall through and are worried thinking that by then everything would have come out and the relationship wudn't happen. They decide to take matters into their own hands.

Poonam is learning how to cook when her phone rings and she goes to answer it, and then hands it to Padma. Meanwhile, Sushma and Dadi taunt Poonam behind her back. After the call, she tells everyone that Poonam's family has called them to celebrate Holi and she accepted their invite. KK asks her if she remembered that Jyoti had asked them all to come to shishumangal tomorrow to celebrate with the kids. Padma convinces him to go to Poonam's family's function instead. On the terrace, Sandeep tells Jyoti abt this, who is shocked. Before leaving, she gives him a piece of advice on spending wisely.

The next day Jyoti is playing holi with Kalpana and the kids. Kalpana mentions abt a part time job she found for Jyoti. At Poonam's place Padma jokes with Dadi abt how much more fun this is than if they had gone to shishumangal. Meanwhile Sushma is taunted by Poonam and her friends. Jyoti reaches home and confronts Neelam's parents, who introduce themselves as Pankaj's to-be inlaws. End.

I won't comment about Jyoti's response to CM or the catfight b/w Poonam & Sushma, since I did so elsewhere, but a few things were still worth noticing:
  1. The moment Poonam's pallau accidentally falls off, Dadi immediately makes a big deal out of it 😆😆 Dadi, did you notice that Sushma too ain't wearing one, and she too is married? In fact, how come Dadi never expected Jyoti or Sushma, during their marriages to wear a pallau whenever they were in front of her? If the issue here is hair falling on the food, as Dadi mentioned, that risk was a lot higher the moment Padma handed it over to Sushma
  2. I agree w/ Padma on attending the Trivedi function (initially, I thought that the entire family was @ Sishu mangal). Jyoti no longer works there, since it's funded by the Vashisths, so why was it more important to attend their function than the Trivedis? Also wondering - why couldn't they have rescheduled it so that they'd do the first part of the function @ one place, and the remaining one @ the other?
  3. Jyoti is telling Deepu how to spend his FIL's cash? Isn't that something that Poonam would have a say about? 😕
  4. Neelam's family looks like thugs, and her father looks almost like Panchi's father - I wonder whether they've recycled this actor? I commented on this in the other thread about Neelam's family: there's a total disconnect b/w the Neelam who was supposed to marry Uday, and the Neelam who is supposed to marry Pankaj
  5. When Neelam's parents meet Jyoti, she doesn't recognize them, and they introduce themselves. Hello!!!! Didn't Jyoti accompany Pankaj and Bhairavi when she went to meet Neelam to prepare for Uday's aborted wedding to Neelam? Now, suddenly, why does Neelam's name draw a blank? She should have instantly recognized at least the name, or they could have reminded her about the time they met. Besides, the last time they stormed out of the Vashisth mansion when Jyoti brought back a married Uday & Sudha, they left accusing Jyoti for being an actor. How could she have forgotten their insults, and by implication, them?
  6. Why can't Jyoti go home, dry up, change and then go on to the Trivedis (aside from her unexpected visitors from Kota?)
  7. The new part time job for Jyoti that Kalpana has obtained - puhleeeze!!!!!
Interesting episode this, given the number of parallel storylines.

Thanks for the update, Kru!!! 👍🏼

Also wondering - why couldn't they have rescheduled it so that they'd do the first part of the function @ one place, and the remaining one @ the other? Well, Jyoti is still pretty close to the kids there... and if not for her, there's no one for them to celebrate Holi with. Thats why it was so important to Jyoti to celebrate with them. But yes, as soon as I heard that these 2 functions were going to clash... I was wondering why they didn't use common sense and just go the one in the morning and go to the other in the afternoon? Holi is a full-day deal. Jyoti is telling Deepu how to spend his FIL's cash? Isn't that something that Poonam would have a say about? 😕My thoughts are that after seeing Poonam's shopping, Jyoti decided to pitch in this word of advice. I'm with her on this though - it doesn't look like it'd take long to have Deepu become another henpecked husband, as strong willed as he seems. The way he agreed to go to Poonam's function instead of shishumangal's proves it.
Neelam's family looks like thugs, and her father looks almost like Panchi's father - I wonder whether they've recycled this actor? I commented on this in the other thread about Neelam's family: there's a total disconnect b/w the Neelam who was supposed to marry Uday, and the Neelam who is supposed to marry Pankaj No, actually its not the same actor... but yes, the actors playing these roles were def not the ones used earlier on.

Besides, the last time they stormed out of the Vashisth mansion when Jyoti brought back a married Uday & Sudha, they left accusing Jyoti for being an actor. How could she have forgotten their insults, and by implication, them? Yes, after all the encounters with Neelam's family... its strange that she doesn't recognize them at once. But I do want to see where they are going with this whole meeting. Do i smell emotional blackmail, maybe? Why can't Jyoti go home, dry up, change and then go on to the Trivedis (aside from her unexpected visitors from Kota?) As usual, this option is conviniently forgotten.
  1. The new part time job for Jyoti that Kalpana has obtained - puhleeeze!!!!! Actually am interested in seeing what Kalpana has found for Jyoti... esp since she's keeping some suspense about it.
Interesting episode this, given the number of parallel storylines.

I still have an issue with the whole cooking thing.
Did any of the Sharma girls know how to cook when they got married? No
Padma and dadi didn't think to train their daughters before she sent them off, why are they expecting the one to come into the house to be fully trained?
They should be thankful that atleast someone half-decent agreed to marry Deepu in the present state of affairs in their house.
Poonam was kinda creul to talk about Sushma, but I know that given the chance, Sushma will do the exact same thing.
Sushma deserves to face the concequences for her actions, because the truth is that most of what's going on is entirely her fault, no one else's.
I understand that CM is desperate to get Pankaj married to Neelam for the sake of Meenal, but why are Neelam's parent's so desperate forher to get married to a divorced blind man?
What is the fault in Neelam apart from being stood up at her engagement? They are an affluent family, it should be easy enough to find boys.
If you look at a map, Udaipur is a long way off from Kota, and also Rajasthan is a huge state. There's gotta be someone who likes, or will like, Neelam for who she is.
As for the whole holi buesness, from what I remeber (the last holi I celebrated in India was when I was 5, 15 years ago) people spend all day going to different peoples houses and play holi at multiple places. Why can the Sharma house only manage to go to one place?
Don't they have other friends and relatives that they need to meet for holi? Or are the Trivedi's the only ones in their life now?
They didn't even wish the Vashishts! Who, btw, are their samdhi's. It's important to meet/wish them for formality's sake.
Anyways, enough ranting. Thanks for the update Kru

Actually, Sudha did. For one thing, @ home, neither Jyoti nor Sushma used to cook, only Sudha did. By the time she got married, she was one of the main cooks in the house, so the morning after she & Uday eloped, one of the first things she wanted was to help Jyoti in the kitchen. First time, CM stopped & humiliated her, causing Uday's walk-out, and next time, her bari-Ma had her do that puja and start.

But Sushma is one to talk. The day b4 she found out that she was pregnant, one of the houses that she visited where she pretended to be sent by someone - she tried cooking for one of the rich families there, and the lady there was appalled by her cooking, and threw her out. And this was ~ a year into her marriage.

To be fair, they didn't send them off - all 3 daughters eloped. I'd have thought that had any of them gone thru arranged marriages, Dadi may have given them bhasans b4 letting them go.

Quite right. Given what they had, and how picky they were about who they selected for Deepu, they were pretty lucky to have gotten who they did.

Yep, this aspect of the catfight was rather funny. Just that given that Sushma is now a part of her family, it was the duty of Poonam to protect her honor, just as she wouldn't say that about any of her own sisters, it was inappropriate to do that about Sushma. Although given the snide comments Sushma was making about Poonam during the cooking, it was poetic justice.

That's probably something that might be revealed as this continues further. I just wonder whether Kesav-ji is a part of that plot? In which case, he's a disgusting person for doing something like that to his samdhis.

And do they have nothing better to do on Holi, than go to the house of the ex-wife of their would be damaat to get her to sign off on their desire? And isn't their expectation strange - that such a person would agree to their demand, when she won't listen to her ex in-laws?

Chances are that Neelam did something that all Kota knows about, and that's why nobody in Kota will touch her w/ a bargepole. Blaming Uday for this situation, as Kesav-ji & CM did was just a ruse.

Yeah, the thing that strikes me is that after this engagement is done, what's still keeping them here? Most families who live in a different city from their bahu/damaat would go back, and finalize plans @ home. Once the clearances are there, and the dates are agreed on, then they go ahead w/ the plans. So what are they still doing in Udaipur?

Yeah, they can at least play w/ their neighbors, or Baby Mausi, or invite people like Dayal Uncle, Kalpana, Bhagya-da etc. How come it's so empty that a week ago, Jyoti decides that they'll all go to Sishu Mangal? And like Kru said, it's an all-day event - couldn't they have gone in the morning to the Trivedis, rescheduling w/ the kids, and then in the afternoon, just visited Sishu mangal?

Well, to be fair to them, they've just come off from a pretty hostile conversation w/ CM. First of all, they can't take Jyoti there, and they'd hate to leave her out again. Next thing - they'd probably be spoiling the mood there, killing whatever little enjoyment Sudha may be having. Incidentally, it's good that Sudha's bid to meet Jyoti was crushed, or she would have been disappointed again - Jyoti would have had to meet Sishu-Mangal kids, the Trivedis and then her. Since this family can't walk & chew gum @ the same time, it's just as well that the Sharmas didn't have any engagement w/ the Vashisths.

Precap

Neelam's parents are sitting in the room. Neelam's father explains to Jyoti that there is no shame in taking alimony, the law allows for it, and that in addition to the Rs 1 crore offered by Bhairavi, he was willing to on top of that give her much more - offer her Rs4-5 crores.

Jyoti is stunned, and turns around. The rest of her family has just arrived - Deepu, Poonam, Padma, Dadi, KK & Sushma. They all look stunned as well.

Comments

If Neelam's parents are that desperate, why don't they just have Neelam go thru the ceremonial wedding now, and register it a year later? Seems to strengthen the impression that they are trying to cover up something.
