Thank you, Sonia dear, but I think you are being too harsh on Jalal and too soft on Chanakya, who was absolutely ruthless in all his tactics and strategies. We study the Arthashastra as part of our diplomatic training, and I would have no illusions about him at all. Why, he is even credited with the creation of the Vishkanyas, to kill the king's enemies.
Not that I would complain about Chanakya, he could not have built up the Mauryan empire any other way, and he did a lot of good by providing peace, stability and prosperity to the inhabitants of the greatest empire India has ever seen. As Chairman Mao used to say, a revolution is not a tea party. I only wish we as a nation were more Chanakyan in our outlook.
All strategists are cunning, manipulative, and yes, deceitful too at times. It is necessary; as a diplomat for 38 years, I know that at first hand. The only thing that matters is the national interest.
But Jalal has a sense of what he owes the common people in his empire, even those in the areas his armies have conquered - witness his fury at Adham's crimes in Malwa. He is committed to the Mughal insaaf, and except when blinded by insensate rage, as after the
dature ka ark affair, he is not wantonly cruel. He is quick to acknowledge the courage of others, like the Amer princes, and he has that quality which is very rare in a king, gratitude.Kings usually have a very highly developed sense of entitlement, and take both loyalty and sacrifices as no more than their due. Jalal is always grateful for any good done to him. He is also willing to suppress his ego, confess when he has been wrong, and apologise to Jodha and her brothers in the open court. How many emperors would do that?
I do not think he trusts Sharifuddin blindly; he tells Jodha so, which is a very different thing. He has,as yet, no proof of his disloyalty. He trusts only 3 people, his Khan Baba, his Badiammi and Ruqaiya. Now there are only 2 left. He does not trust his Ammijaan because she is never there for him when he needs emotional support - when his Khan baba is no more, when he has lost his unborn child. She is there only to preach at him. I hope Jodha soon graduates to the slot vacated by Bairam Khan.
There is going to be no war; Jalal plans to retake Ratanpur fort from the sketchy Dhawalgarh garrison sent to take it over even before the baraat has returned to Dhawalgarh. So there would be no question of Vijendra being killed defending it. As for what Jalal is likely to do to safeguard Sukanya's future, Jaya's suggestion that Vijendra might be appointed mandalik of the fort would seem to be a promising one.
As for Jodha, she too was deceitful yesterday, and rightly so. Do see my response above to Ela, it might interest you.

Lovely analysis of a super episode. 👍🏼
I do beg to differ about Jalal being Chanakya's Child. With his foundation shaped by the likes of Bairam Khan and his blind faith in Maham Anga , it would be a disrespect to a great scholar & tactician like Chanakya...Jodha , on the other hand , could have turned out to be a great pupil...had she been privileged to be under his tutelage.
Jalal is cunning, scheming, manipulative, deceitful...political intrigue is his birthright and nothing wrong with that but what he did yesterday left a sour taste ...only because he never . not once, pondered the charge on Sharifu...outright dismissal of such a claim from a man who claims to trust not even his shadow, doesn't sit well with his character...I would consider it a glaring flaw in his character especially after the MC fiasco ,where I thought he was justified to an extent in his Zinda Jalaa Denge to Jodha ! My admiration for Jalal dimmed quite considerably yesterday 😆... not that its of any consequence.😆
Jalal's act could lead to him killing Vajinder in this war.😲...would he not commit a Gunah then ?? Or it can be conveniently dismissed again as perils of war !...You have aptly described it here...That the hapless Rat King was not guilty of anything but an excess of greed would not change anything, for what would matter would be what Jalal believed of him.
I am just glad of the fact that this would put the couple many steps back in their equation, once Jodha is aware of it. I am quite interested to find out what or any reparation Jalal would make once he knows of Sharif's treachery. As far as offering Mansabdaari to Vijendra, I had thought that would be his middle ground solution. Not this underhanded deceit based on treachery, which he refused to consider.
Kudos to Jodha 👏👏 She was, standing ovation worthy, magnificent yesterday. Maham's face, , the flag bearer of Mughal Sultanat ki Izzat😡 was a delight to watch.👍🏼
Yesterday...
Jodha veiled Truth in Diplomacy and Jalal used Diplomacy to veil Deceit !
