agreed completely with the highlighted part.

No, my dears, on the balance, I think he believed her, in the sense that she had made a choice to bury her accusations and live with the fact that Sukanya's marriage was kaput. Not that she had stopped believing in her accusations.

After all, when she made that grand apology, she did not know that Jalal would relent. He knows that she could not know that.

As for embracing Mahaam, that part was pure mischief, and I was delighted to see Jodha learn how to pay Mahaam back in her own coin. Also what she said to Sharifuddinji Sa was forced out of her by herself, and it is that which must have been hardest of all for her.

But what she says to Jalal, and indirectly to Hamida Banu, is genuine, and he realises that. If he had not done so, he would have acted as directly and bluntly as he always does, and not adopted this Chanakya neeti.

You have to avoid making facile interpretations, my dear girls, Jalal is a very complex character. Enjoy his complexity. Do not slot him into facile patterns as you are doing now, or you will miss half the fun.

Lashy dear,

I will update this later, but this is just to say that your comments always make my day.

The multiple references to Chanakya were perhaps inevitable, but I have entitled him, so to speak,😉 and then I have also dragged in Shivaji Maharaj as well, who is one of my all time favourites! He was a true blue Chanakyan, and I only wish the much praised Prithviraj Chauhan had had as much siyasati samajh.

I agree in toto with your explanation of Jodha's Bakhsi Banu fiasco, only adding that she would have done exactly the same thing even if she had had a week to ponder over it. She is so blinkered that she imagines that all women care as little for their marriages and their husbands as she does, and it would always have come to her as a shock that Bakshi Banu is not willing to sacrifice her naalayak shauhar on the altar of TRUTH for Jodha's sake!!

Only one response as of now, to your

JALAL'S SMILE - one smile that you haven't explained away is the smile that the whole forum is busy swooning about - the smile Jalal hurls to Jodha just after he makes that announcement - the smile he casts her just before he walks away - the smile just after he reads her confused frowns!

In fact, I have covered it in

But for the Shahenshah, there are separate compartments in his mind, and they are watertight. Jodha and Amer fit into one compartment, shall we call it that of the heart? The others, right now the Rat King and his son, fit into the other, that of his brain. That one is laser sharp, inflexible, and knows only one imperative: the interests of the Mughal sultanate and his own prestige and power as the Shahenshah, both of which merge seamlessly.

Whence the secret smile on his face as he looks at the visibly moved Jodha after he has given the fort away, and again as she is leaving his chambers, unsure of his real motive and frankly skeptical that he did it for Sukanya's wedding alone. The Shahenshah does what he has to do for the empire, and he is accountable for it to no one else.

You have overlooked it, that is all. How could I have left those enigmatic smiles out? I hardly read much in the forum, but I will make sure to see yours.

Bye for now,

Shyamala Aunty

Beautiful beautiful analysis aunty...

Just like you,
1) I loved all the scenes that you've mentioned - the Jo-MA ones, the ant one and all of Ja-Jo meetings!
2) I am beginning to love Pratap's portrayal and stance further and further. Thankfully, even though he's shown more 'righteous' than Jalal, he seems to have an understanding and appreciation (unlike Jodha) of the greyer aspects of politics that Jalal & his men seem to employ. I think this goes with the fact that as a man, he's had more first-hand experience of administrative matters than the more protected Jo !
3) Btw, I too love DTPG more than DDLJ

I also loved how you've compartmentalized Jalal's thinking into different departments - a beautiful analogy!👏

However, two things -
JODHA While the previous parallel 'detective' act of Jodha's during the MC fiasco was poorly thought out, I wouldn't go so far to say that the BB bit was as bad as the Rahim debacle.
For one - this one was more out of desperation.
Also, by not being able to foretell that BB would not go against her husband, the CVs have tried to portray that she's still in the Ameri bubble of Black and white. For the life of her, she can't comprehend that BB would go against the TRUTH to protect her marriage - so she's just more to her character! If she hadn't done that, how could she (and we, the viewers) get to hear from MA about the 'giving importance to husband bit' - a resounding clause that's missing from Jodha's mind/psyche/dictionary whatever! That point had to be brought out!
Secondly, one must give it to her that she doesn't have much time. Desperate to save her sister's alliance, she resorts to any twig or straw to hold on to in that sinking ship. Yes, the BB bit failed - as expected!
However, thankfully - Jo's daunt makes up for her lack of cunningness. Instead of sitting down and wailing about the failure or MA's rebuttal, she utilizes the very gyaan imparted by MA to her own advantage!
Had she not done that, she'd have been in a palanquin on her way to Agra by now!

JALAL'S SMILE - one smile that you haven't explained away is the smile that the whole forum is busy swooning about - the smile Jalal hurls to Jodha just after he makes that announcement - the smile he casts her just before he walks away - the smile just after he reads her confused frowns!

P.S. I just realized that you, Vicky and I have used the 'chanakya' comparison in our posts at some point or another...😛

Sasha Aunty ,

More than your post today i liked the title, I had a thought tht you would relate to our very own in house kootnitigayh of sangathith bharat somehow , but i like this even better .

The best part being :-

The change of heart & What of Sukanya?

I am sure jalal took jodha on her face value but do u really think he believed her when she hugged maham ?? Any ways what jalal did yesterday was proof enough, tht is if jodha wants to learn the lesson . The lesson being straight from jalal, go my way n you would be rewarded . He did change his decision last minute in response to change in jodha's behaviour n the breif smirk in the court reinstated the fact tht jalal wanted jodha to know tht he can move stones for her n it is best to be on his side of the team.

Jodha has learnt the lesson but iam not sure would she remember it when she reached agra or would only apply it to jalal n not to the others who are constantly plotting against her , ruku being the prime one.

As far as sukanya is concerned , i feel the rat king is not only greedy but a 1st rate coward too , when jalal would win the ratanpur fort , he would have already bent rat king's spine . Jalal would give it back saying tht it because sukanya is their DIL tht is why iam giving it back. Rat prince already likes sukanya so he won't trouble her , atleast not like sharif abuses BB.

But all along , what if jalal comes to know tht sharif did promise the fort ?????

Yes, you are right about no one is bothered about Sukanya's future. For ameri's it is just that the Barat should not leave without Sukanya and once she is disposed from Amer, they are not bothered. It was well shown in case of Jodha by her own mother so, we can't expect anything extra here for Sukanya. This is well know to the Mughal couples also (Jodha & Jalal) as they were the victims (!!!!) of that treatment by mainavati. So if at all there has to be some one to think of Sukanya's future it has to be her Jiji & Jijaji, so I think they will settle that issue once and for all. The way it looks, i feel that after winning the FORT, Jalal will appoint Sukanya's husband as the mandaleek for that fort and win the respct from both Mughals & Rajvamshis & Sukanya's future is settled well since her Sasutr can't disobey the emperor as now they will come under his umbrella of ruling.

Shyamala in response to your comment to lashy about Jodha not caring for her marriage as BB does...I am sorry...I cann't bring myself to praise a spineless woman like BB...Jodha brought BB as she had no other option and she thought that BB will have guts to stand for the truth just like Jodha...
