Nice post shruti
Well..after reading this I dont know what exactly I should say..alright..I am a writer too...I hardly update. .I never reply individually...but always thank everyone together before posting a new update. ..

I dont mind if only 2 people read my work becoz honestly. .writing is a stress buster for me...also I never demand silent readers to comment on my work...its always their will..though I do tell them to comment occasionally...becoz sometimes it feels good to hear from them..

Lemme tell u something. ..I tell them to comment or else I will remove them from my pm list...but honestly. .I never do that! :P if u ever read my fic..u will realize 50 percent readers comment n others dont..but to be honest I have never ever removed them from my pm list
and u know why? Becoz I understand their pov

I am a reader too..and a silent one on many fics... :D and so I completely agree with u..from readers pov..

And shruti..u are one big example in my case..u were a reader of my work...u used to comment regularly. ..and then u went silent. .hell...I dont even know if u read my work anymore...though I do see ur like there sometimes :P so I know u do drop in..so I guess u know me better here...becoz I never demanded any comment from u :) and still pm u telling u abt the updates :)

One thing I have to agree with you is that writers who only cares about their buddies comments and not their others readers. I also hate it and it is really a turn off for me as sometimes I dont wish to read the story as I feel as this writer only cares about the buddies comments and not my...

But, I also think if you read a story when you should comment as it means alot for some writers. I know how it feels when some readers come and go and not even bother to tell me that they could not wish to read my stories anyone. it hurts alot and that is why sometimes a writer ask for after this many pages I will update. But also as a writer you know how many readers are reading your story and how many not, not to check their fan following...

I think this is sometimes you only understand when yourself start to write something.

Thanks!!

Thanks for commenting!😊

Yeah the purpose of the thread was to bring out the opinions of readers as well as the writers.

While the number is only a handful, there are a few writers who have used IF only as a medium to promote their stories elsewhere. What goes around, comes around!😊

Hmm i agree with you on some points.
Speaking as a writer and reader, no one should be compelled to comment. But it has some serious effects that can snowball with time:
1. the writer feels under-appreciated. It takes hours to plan an update and bring it to life. And when they don't get a response, they tend to not update and that starts a vicious cycle. And when the silent readers do speak up, it is often too late.

2. the fandom suffers. Under-appreciated writers and vm makers may simply chose to stop. This is their choice of course, but that makes the fandom that much smaller. And who wants that?

Personally, I don't force ppl to comment if they don't want to and I keep my blog public. But I do reward those who do take the time to comment regularly by sending pms and extra stuff. I write for myself and if someone out there likes it too, that's just added bonus.

But honestly, if you have ten minutes to read a chapter, u have 30 seconds to write a short comment most of the time. That's what I believe and I do my best to leave feedback on every ff i read and every vm i watch.

Nice discussion TM😊

Nice post...
i have myself experienced the gala time issue...

yet i have a few questions in my mind...

why do the readers buddy the writers and ask for PMs when they stop commenting right from the very next update? Well one might think they are not active...but what is the answer when you find their name in the list of members who liked the update?

i have also noticed some writers putting their 100% into replying each and every single comment without being biased... yet still they have silent readers in their PM list... why so?

to be frank THIS has pissed me off!

Oh yeah, I remember reading these points on that thread... I recall commenting on the same too...

I know Shruti, you have seen this on the other thread but just felt like sharing it here as well :)

Thanks for fishing out a closed thread and making available these points once again! 😊

i myself as a reader am very disappointed wd some writers who left deir stories at a crucial part...i kept pming dem ...scrapping dem...but sigh no reply...though my pms are read already...

ok i started reading IF stories wen IPK ended...so ofcourse by den many writers already left IF...stopped writing on my fav chars...or shifted to blogs...

Yes this is a point which I have often read.

dere are some stories dat i started reading...but did nt comment...as initially i was nt comfortable on the communication part...nd now wen m so anxious abt wat happened wd the story ...dey have been shifted to personal blogs...whose access i hav been denied...coz i did nt comment earlier...dere are some stories dat i want to read now coz i came to know abt dem later nd the writers do nt let me acces deir stories...

such is the situation wd me dat i either read completed stories...or the ones which are updated regularly...

This is the best approach. Read the whole story. Comment once. Done. U got a complete story and the reader got the comment.

i am a very emotional reader...i get involved into the story the chars...nd it leaves me wd certain kind of uneasiness wen i dnt read the entire story...
infact i hate sad endings as well...considering this fact just thnk abt my plight who fears reading completed stories wd sad endings...how would i read an incomplete story...

While I respect your feelings, we should not forget that we are talking about fictional characters here.

nd i hate dese notes which says...500 likes...nd 10 pages...den ull get d next update...i mean seriously...if u are writing stuffs for readers ...u would nt want dem to comment just becoz u are forcing dem...accolades ...praises...approbations... are not demanded but commanded...

nd i respect a lot many authors who irrespective of how many comments nd likes he/shhe gets...continue wd the story...

i generally ask my authors to nt send me the pms coz...i love stalking the stories here on IF...becoz dey are worth it

Thank you for commenting!

Ok now i dont know how relevant it is going to be!
Since i read that writers send Pm to readers who dont bother to reply and they feel bad!!
What about those readers who follow the thread irrespective of any pms or notifications! They do that simply because they love the story and would follow it anyhow and then also sometimes author refuses to recognise them as a reader!

It happened with me! I used to follow a story, comment religiously and when the time came the writer refused to acknowledge me as reader! Just because i wasnt in her buddy list? I was like great!!
So what would she do, obviously become silent!!
I guess every type of category exist! M its a two way process! So both the categories should be careful as well as try to understand each other's grievances!! And work towards it!!
