I've always been pretty neutral on this topic being both a reader and a writer.
As both I understand why writers ask for and enjoy comments, but it bugs me when they demand them, I mean this is a free forum and a free country.
I for one will always ask, and express how good comments make me feel, but never will I say "next update only after n pages of comments."
And then as a reader, I do not comment when I am not satisfied with what I just read. I mean, I know rude and disliking comments demotivated a writer and I would in no way want to do that just because I didn't like one thing they wrote or their style or whatever.
Despite time, I try to leave heartfelt comments when I can for those who's stories I do read.
A writer says the update was late because life got in the way so can't a reader say the same about commenting? I mean some writers say that a single word is fine, but there are readers who feel a single word isn't enough and won't comment.
So both readers and writer need to stop battling it out as to why this and not that in their defense, but try to understand each other.
So stop coming up with reason and excuses and just try to consider each other's situations.

Actually, i am thinking of doing just that because i too live in the asli duniya and have my own pressures, so when i take the time to read and comment on a story from the very beginning, i expect the author to finish the story because i have not only invested the time but also my emotional energies into the story and it is very painful to be left midway.@bold- yes yes we also have an asli duniya...😊😛if a writer comment once in a month that's fine but a reader should comment on every single chapter and if you have not than you won't get the link of blogs and uske baad bhi writer has the audacity to say it's depend on the readers.. matlab can't you be lil kind🤢
And once in a while, it would be nice if the author appreciated the sincere heartfelt comments that one makes.nai, if they are busy than its completely fine.. just don't be biased..😕I think writers should have at least developed enough of the plot to have a something solid to work with before they first put up their stories.
Many writers have a kernel of a brilliant idea and are able to put it down very well , but have not sat down and thought about how to develop the idea. But they are so excited by it, they will put up the first 5 or 6 chapters and then they are lost.
Then there are writers who stop about 3 chapters before the end, or at a very critical juncture and vanish..👏
Some writers hit a terrible writer's block, which I fully understand and sympathise with, but i expect such writers to admit to it, most readers will sympathise and support the writer with their comments. Even silent readers come out at such times.
All i want from my writers is honesty.and also respect😆
Having said that i have to say many of my favourite writers will pm me to say how much they appreciate my commentssame here i am blessed with ache ache writers😆

To be completely honest, I am a writer myself and I leave the option to comment completely on the reader itself.
Yes, getting comments and good feedback feels good but I write for me. I write because I like doing it.If people want to comment then they can but if they don't, I don't really feel bad or anything.

Hi there
Got pointed toward this by a friend. as the resident res queen I thought I must reply
First of all interesting the decide between readers and writers. We are all readers and then you have the few who are trying their hand at writing and I love the process to see some gems make it through and shine and they have a platform a ready audience to whet their skills and to know that with at encouragement the flower . It is for me a wonder filled experience.Exactly! it s a pleasure to see writers grow. But it's when the cockiness sets in, irrational accusations, inability to accept a counter point of view that the beautiful process is interrupted.Yes, petulance and snarkiness does no one any good!
Some authors do interact initially but as readership grows it becomes harder, a post here and there to acknowledge would be nice.
None of us are experts if we were we'd be published and proffessional critiques . so if we resort to IF we have to keep in mind our limitations. And for those of us who aspire to go further especially those that want to write keep in mind this audience is huge it's your network who knows who is a scout or who knows one... So don't cut that nose to spite thy face
On a closing note I personally know of happy endings I know a writer who started here and is now a published writer ( and not a self published one)
