Good post..Anika and Pinky can be similar in some ways but calling her another pinky in the making is totally unfair..anika is too good. And how can Tia be compared to Jhanvi..ya she has the classy looks and carries herself somewhat well..but is that all ?

I don't think Anika is another Pinky because unlike Pinky Anika has jobs and she works to earn her livings and she will continued to do that after marriage if GK stick to her words.

You pretty much summed up what I wanted to say. I get that people are angry at Shivaay, but I don't feel he is in the wrong - he has every right to want a life partner to suit his standards. Obviously, I wish he went about it with more tact..he's got no right to call someone trash, sadak ka kooda and all just because they don't match his blue blood standards, that's a big no. But other than that, he's a pretty decent guy.
I look forward to seeing how gul will bridge the difference between shivika

The reason I'm going with the fairy tale "love conquers all" is because

1. It's a serial and love is always enough 😆 Even the most awful ML completely change after falling in love with the FL. While the FL conveniently forget the horrid behavior after the ML confession.

- Besides the couple has to get together (only to be separated over some stupid misunderstanding later😆)

2. The writers don't analyze the show or the characters as much we do 😆

- I'm not saying that they are not invested, but I highly doubt they think about it like we do. Just look at amazing ideas, stories, and themes that IF members come up with on a daily basis vs. all the amazing ideas the writers could have explored but didn't.

3. It's the easiest way to resolve the difference between them.

- Like you said, because of Shivaay's extreme natural it means he is the easy choice when it comes to change.

4. Gul instagram comments about everyone despite his or her circumstances finding and experiencing love. Love seems to the theme for all three brothers.

It would be unrealistic and unfair for only Shivaay to change and Anika to stay the same. It would be more realistic and more endearing if both of them made compromises and met each other halfway. Working together as a team would be insanely sweet and I would love to see that on-screen especially with this couple. The potential is immense unfortunately, I am not expecting much. Like you mentioned earlier, if he make concessions (which is a given considering his position) to have her in his life than it's only fair that she make concessions as well. I mean ...isn't that what love is all about.

I skipped around so I'm not sure but it's implied that she isn't educated because of her circumstances, mannerism, and her vocabulary. I don't think or at least I don't remember her education or lack of it ever being mentioned. The menu scene was interesting because Shivaay (and the audience) don't really know what she knows and what she doesn't. We are just assuming because what we are shown, but the truth is that she has quite a few layers that haven't been explored. I really hope the writers explore it later on. Given what we have seen she doesn't understand English but that doesn't mean she doesn't have skill sets. I mean how else was she able to take care of herself, her brother, and that old hag without help for so long (and I'm assuming from a young age as well.) I feel like we know who Shivaay is, but she is still a mystery.

She just lacks the opportunities that came so easily to them but she isn't stupid or socially inept. She is very aware of herself and changes based on the situation (and whom she is dealing with). The way she speaks to Rudra is completely different from how she addresses Dadi. I do not see her struggling or needing to be coached while interacting with people at a dinner party. I would love her struggle be not wanting to be a part of a society that disregards her experiences, accomplishments, and her struggles. It would interesting to see her let go of some of her ego for him like we all know he is going to do for her in the near future.

I guess it depends on the person because I know many people who married beyond their class. Some of the relationship found a healthy balance in terms of in-laws, friends, etc while with others outsiders are never a factor( it wasn't a easy choice but they prefer to be happy and live drama-free lives). I guess the point there is no right or wrong way but everyone just finds the right way for him or her. To be honest, I don't see this serial or any serial for that matter exploring the nuances of situations like this. It will be a cycle of misunderstandings and patch-ups.

Hi there,
I don't know if we've met before, but anyhow, I'm Innika 😊

Dear god, this post was so apt.
I've thought about this for a while now but somehow, I just don't know how to put down my feelings, because there are so many! I feel like this post was overdue, so thank you so much for writing about this.

Don't get me wrong, I'm an absolute sucker for love-hate relationships. The issue is, that I don't really find them plausible. When I think of ShivIka in love, it makes me so happy and I can imagine them being so great and funny and cute and romantic together. But when I think of them alone, them by themselves, I don't really see it.
These two characters are fantastic and loveable, and they were the first pairing I fell in love with. But sometimes, I feel like the equality theme that Gul endorses with them just won't last. There'll be compromises and heartbreak in their relationship, and that's not because either one of them is bad. It's just because of the people they are.

Annika is gorgeous, hilarious and extremely compassionate. She's easily one of my favourite characters on the show, but I'll be the first to admit that she's not ideal for someone like Shivaay. In theory, Shivaay needs a trophy wife, and she can't give him that. She's loving, and amazing in her own right, but just not what Shivaay thinks he needs.

When will that change? How will his priorities shift from his own values, to her?

Shivaay is two-faceted, the cold, driven business man from one angle, and the loving family man from the other. He's my favourite brother, but again, like Annika, he has his flaws. His khoon, khandaan, bloodline thing is so goddamn frustrating, but I can see how his thoughts mirror those of some in society. Annika can't change her blood. And to a certain extent, I don't think she wants to. Like you said, her image in society is the very least of her concerns. I think, even when she realises she loves him, she'll hold back, because she just doesn't think that she's what he wants.

When will that change? How will she accept that if Shivaay truly loves her, he'll accept her for she is?

See, in the real world, characters like these just don't work.
Shivaay is too resolute in his stance, while Annika is stubborn, and both have every right to be the way they are. They're different people. Taken from different worlds, different mindsets, different morals and ideals. Attraction isn't enough. Care isn't enough. Trust, even, isn't enough.
Maybe when they fall in love, Gul will find a way for them to plausibly function as a couple. I just don't know when the lines are finally going to blur, and move from attraction and care to something deeper.

Anyways, this was a long, rambling comment because I still don't really know how to put my thoughts together.
Thank you again for this brilliant post!

Love,
Innika

I think what Shivaay think he needs and what he needs are very different. He thinks he needs a trophy wife, but I remember one of SCs instagrams it said Anika is a woman you can go to war with by your side. Anika might not be a Janvi or a Mallika but she will have his back 100%. She will do anything for him in bad times and good and like him is the wall/saviour/shelter for the family which is what he fails to realize. He doesn't need to marry a trophy wife who will be a disaster in every difficult situation (which the Oberois seem to be in constantly) like Tia. And as for someone like Janvi being perfect , when things were terrible she also fell weak and gave into alcoholism and was visibly drunk in public - she's not a role model just because she's educated and khandani. Sorry, I really Janvi's character I just feel someone like Janvi sinot perfect for Shivaay either.

You point out to very deep and unexplored conflicts in the plot. I must say, your take on Shivay makes me look at him in a very different way and yes he has been different from Mann, Asad and Arnav in many much ways.

It is not the arrogance here that is at question, Shivaay has been a sweetheart to everyone including Anika in terms of help, concern and whatever else is required. He is a person with strong ideals who does not ignore his attraction (though he denies) and has also been very light hearted. The other protagonists had the cloud of dark past walking with them, fusing all judgements. May be this is why Shivay is different from the rest, coming from a broken yet sorted family that lives off on sweet moments rather than the past.

He is very much conscious of his believes and keeps everyone in the loop, it certainly makes him more honest & a man with a spine.

I hope as well that the conflicts are dealt with carefully, not leaving loop holes instead of covering everything with an ill planned dramatic turn.

Why I feel Annika is right for Shivvay:
Lets reflect on the 2 Oberoi Daughter-in-laws for a bit.
Jhanvi is well educated and well versed with the business world but crumbled under Tej's lack of attention and devotion to her. She lacks the drive, grit and tenacity that she needs as an Oberoi.
Pinky may not go to the board meetings, social parties or start companies and businesses with Shakti but among the two daughter-in-laws SHE is the stable force. It was she who brought Tej and Jhanvi together even though she has always felt like the outsider because of her family background. She is strong, level-headed and easy going not because her marriage or relationship with her son is a happy one but because she is a fighter. She wins and smiles against all odds and never lets anyone bring her self-esteem down.
Given half a chance she would have proven to be quite an Oberoi in the business world but her early marriage and incomplete education hampered that progress.

"How Do I love Thee? Let me Count The Ways" - Elizabeth Barrett Browning
ANNIKA:
By Far my Fav Soap FL. She is someone you can identify with.
Annika, thank heavens, will get that chance that Pinky did not ironically because of Shivvay's rigid belief system in khoon, khandaan and the crap. She may not be a blue blood but history is witness that even a commoner groomed in the royal ways could pass off as a royal.
To expect Annika to be any different than she is in the environment that she lives would be laughable. I mean the poor girl lives in a 'basti' of sorts and cannot expect to put on airs living in a place like that.Yet she is held in high respect by the neighbors because considering that kind of environment she still has very high standards.
Even with the Oberoi's (Rudy and Prinku especially) she lets her guard down because she is comfortable with her 'best friends' family. It is commendable though to see the change in her if an outsider visits them.
1. When the Rana's came she spoke with respect and humility and apologized for expressing her views being a non-family member. That is class and upbringing.
2. When the Chabra's came to see Prinku she blended in so well with the Oberoi's that Mr.Chabra mistook her to be Shivaay's fiance! To me that was the litmus test.

As someone pointed out she is not uneducated , and by her own admission definitely not an under achiever at school - the 3 hr paper she wrote in 1 hr proves it.
She does not lack self-esteem and hence does not need to put on a facade to boost her image. She repeatedly tells Shivvay this when she taunts him that he woks at a turtles pace and needs to eat almonds like she does.
She is knowledgeable and well read - The menu given by Shivvay at Raksha Bandhan proves that.
She can not only mingle with high class society, that is evident, but can also hold her own with them without feeling intimidated- proved when she was insulted by Tia's mother about the gifts.
She is open to new and modern ideas is evident by the way she is planning the wedding and managing the staff.
She is frugal but not miserly - Nothing she has put together for any Oberoi event has 'cheap' written on it but she does not break the bank to do it.
In short she is the 'complete woman' that we all see in the mirror everyday.
She is US. The package deal which some men may find intimidating and challenging. Not all men have the brave to take on such a woman as their wife. It would take a man's man to live with an independent, tender yet strong, serious yet lighthearted woman of substance. That is where Shivvay's fears lay. The fact that Annika is more woman than he would like to handle. Life with her would be 'living' not 'existing' and he has been existing for so long that any change frightens him.

Lo
ve one another, but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls." Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet
SHIVVAY:
He is right in his beliefs as his experience with people from a lesser background may have led him to understand over the years that this is the stereotype that is expected from this class of people. It is a well known fact that money and power, most of the time, buys one anything and Shivvay too was accustomed to that easy path taken by most rich and powerful people. He was happy and content in that belief with no one proving it otherwise over these years.
He had his future planned and set according to those belief lines when along comes this 'storm' called Annika who left his very well laid meticulous plans in disarray. She stood up to him in spite of who he was and refused to be bribed, intimidated, walked-over or defeated even though she came from this predictable breed of people. In short she was not conforming to his ideas and opinions about this class of people he normally dealt with. That was nothing short of frustrating and vexing for this powerful man. To top it all she was completely uncontrollable, unpredictable and, dash it all, lovable just the way she was. She managed to worm her way in a matter of weeks to the No.1 position that was reserved solely for him and HIM alone in the Oberoi House.
Tia, on the other hand, was perfect for him and his family being less of a competition. He never had to worry about losing his spot to her. Besides all she wanted was his title and for him to look after her. She was a breeze compared to this warrior princess.
Then there was the question of control! She somehow managed to evoke all these feelings and reactions that were exhausting to keep under control. Nothing around her was ever routine even when it happened without her knowledge. Things just combusted around her, as though the air crackled with her very own electricity. One couldn't help but be pulled into that energy that surrounded her - and again she did so unknowingly and with complete childlike innocence.
A man could easily lose himself and his identity in this vibrancy. The years of practice at being an immovable force affected by nothing and no one would come under serious threat. The identity of the man the world knows as Shivvay Singh Oberoi would undergo transformation and change all because of an unbending and reckoning force called Annika.
Relocation or removal of this threat would be very vital to the existence of Shivvay Singh Oberoi now at any cost possible. There is no way in hell that he was going to let his years of hard work, building an almost Demi God like image, be brought crashing down for a mere thing called love. A woman, a mere mortal, was not going to bring him down from his pedestal and awaken this trivial thing called emotions in him. He was a cold, unfeeling emotionless blue-blood and was destined to marry one of his own kind. The blood-line had to be kept pure for the future of the clan whether they believed in it or not.
There would be no warm fuzzy feelings and out of control emotions for this Demi God. Oh! no that would not do at all.

But then wait just a heartbeat Shivvay and take a second, harder glance and look under that exterior shell. You will be amazed to find that under that easily worn cloak of a commoner is a true Demi Goddess who is equal in power and glory. She is just better at moving between the two worlds - the Gods and Humans- with more ease and grace than you are.
Is it that surprising then, that you find her so alluring and tempting, that you yearn to make her your own. Your own to possess and control at your will and bask in that Godlike success.
She is like quicksilver - difficult to hold or contain by a mere human. Only a God would aspire to do that

^I agree she seems educated to be honest she can read and write well and she got a great art skill too. They're many things proven so far that she's a mutitalent girl. Look how well she design the mandap! She can also memorize without writing anything down. to be honest she seems more educated than Shivaay too going by how much she knows she is shown to be both book and street smart if Gul haven't mentioned about her not being a blue blood I am sure many of us will be guessing till now about her character and she's much more than she seems.
