Most people here in the US who watch Indian Idol absolutely LOVE Swaroop. There are many of us rooting for him to win it all. But seems like s many of you guys in India would really like him to be eliminated soon? Dunno why there's such a discrepancy, but in all honesty there's a lot of us who ONLY watch this season just for Swaroop. Shashi was also VERY popular here in the states, but you guys eliminated him way too early. And even though most here agree that Sreeram's a great singer, not many people would mind him being eliminated because his voice isn't anything unique or something we haven't heard before. And for the record, everyone here thinks Bhoomi should've been eliminated a LONG time ago.

I really wish votes could be counted internationally, but since only India's votes count, I hope you guys eliminate Bhoomi soon! :)

I am in US and your post does not reflect my views.

A group of people that I associate with like Sreeram, Shivam, and Rakesh the most and their top pick varies.
Generalization for the whole US based Indian population is meaningless. IMHO.

Good insight, never really took that factor into consideration since I assumed that Indian Idol over there was less of a pass-time show and more of a music loving show, but actually does make quite a bit of sense now that I look at it. And yeah, I guess the other major issue is that here in the states it's very refreshing to hear a unique voice like Swaroop's rather than the same old stale stuff, as opposed to some of you guys there who don't find it uncommon to hear his texture and style of singing that often. Point taken. And yeah the initial post reaked of generalizations, but hey on a forum built upon blind irrational fondness over a contestant, thought fire with fire? : )

P.S. Usually I would've just nodded my head and moved on after reading even an insightful post, but made the extra effort to actually respond in acknowledgement solely due to the subconscious appeal towards the Preity AV. Does that make the score even, now?

I feel bad for the OP here, everyone is accusing him/her of generalizing. I usually don't sympathize easily, but I think the Brad Pitt AV is doing the trick here. 😆

I think the biggest issue here is that in India, everyone is watching the show. People of all backgrounds, ages, preferences, etc. In the US, only those who are truly Bollywood music lovers are watching the show. They care for good music, and not just entertainment. Is that to say that people in India don't care for the music? Absolutely not! Its just that the audience in India is a lot larger and therefore contains all sorts of people that are watching the show for several different reasons.

Having said that, I don't know how right or wrong the original generalizations are. I do think that Swaroop has exceptional potential, and that he may be one of the ones that makes it big from this season, regardless of his winning or not. Strictly in terms of the current competition, I think Swaroop is not cut out for this competition. I would much rather see Sreeram and Rakesh/Shivam (still deciding! 😆) in the finale. We'll see though.

Very twisted logic. Sooo in the US, the only people who love Bollywood music watch Indian Idol... but in India, people who hate Bollywood music or love say, Tollywood music watch Indian Idol. Umm.. ok. Got it.

Actually, I just reread my post and realized that I had left a good chunk of my thoughts out. Point I was trying to make is that Swaroop really is more technically gifted (even if its only in his style of singing) than the other contestants. He can hit a lot of the notes and do a lot of things that the other contestants can't. But those are the kinds of things that only people who have an ear for music can detect. That's what I was trying to get at. Glad you found the post insightful regardless.

And c'mon now, you don't possibly think that all the fondness that's being showered upon a contestants is irrational, now do you? There's a little bit of rationale involved there y'know ... good looks, nice hair, gender, or region. All that takes some good thought. ;-) Of course in Sreeram's case we have talent, can't be calling that irrational fondness. Next time, try fire with water. Experience tells me you'll find a better way out.

And yours may just be a subconscious appeal towards my Preity AV. But mine is a very conscious appeal towards the Brad Pitt AV, no kiddin'!

Yeah, keep reading it a couple more hundred times and eventually your brain will register it. I wasn't expecting you to absorb all of that the first time around anyways. ;-)

Did you come up with that all by yourself?
Reading garbage many times does not change garbage into something meaningful... Well, maybe it does the trick for you but not me. Anyway, I wasn't expecting you to post anything useful considering you suffering from bipolar disorder. The only similarity between your two personalities is that they both are equally stupid.

I wont say everyone, but many people abroad are hooting for swaroop...... and the reason behind that is that he is so Raw and has a folk style which we start appreciating after we leave everything behind........ I know many people do not like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan because they thought he had a coarse voice...... but many others loved him because of that..... so its a personal opinion.........
I have to agree with the topic starter at some point that Sreeram is a great singer..... but he is already a professional singer adn has a very known voice (similar to many other singers......) we need something different..... bhoomi is all hyped up....... Rakesh is great.... and i think if given a chance he can do wonders...... Naushad was another singer who could make it big.......
but my best wishes are with everyone!!!!!!
