Aishi...I have to agree with Anjana...and i dont think she is attacking or bashing any religion......and itr true...Ram was a great king to his people....but he failed in love and succumbed to the society's pressure.......Dont get me wrong..I love Ram....but I do not want Geet to be another Sita.....

That's fine but I don't think this is the place to discuss Ram..and that is your opinion but mine is different :)
Also everyone is saying I brought Ram into the discussion. I never did!

I totally agree with Anjana toronto's post about "western' being a bad word...all ppl who live abroad are not self centred and of weak moral fiber....having said that ...the story is presently set in a city, where men and women work together...there itself is "westernisation" which was not the norm maybe 50 yrs ago...that is not to say that it is against Indian culture...men and women have interacted in the past you know...😊

@Aishi & TM - u brought Ram into it by emphasizing the throwaway 14 year exile comment made by 1 poster. U first hi-lighted it then Janu commented on it. I then commented on Janu's comment because i disagreed wit it... It progressed from there...
Returning to Geet and this topic, I am glad that you concur with my perspective that there are postive/negative aspects to both cultures.
I guess CVs could have kept Geet in HP and made Maan stay there... that would have been a less "citified" track. However, in keeping with the original (fake marriage & honour killing) themes of the serial, they still wud have to depict Geet growing stronger and learning to fight for herself and her child. That is what the CVs have done and that is what makes this serial noteworthy.
As for the relationship between the two characters then again this is not progressive... If we now accept silly Ekta serials where pple have multiple marriages and that is considered "indian" (based on popularity of Kyunki, etc.) then Geet is not that progressive. Also, there are some dynamite love stories in indian culture wit extra-marital component. Radha-Kishna being the classic. Their love is Eternal but, also not in keeping with the conventions of society. They were married to others not each other. Again i am discussing "character" not religion. Also, one of the things every culture should value is LOVE... and there is nothing "indian" or "western" about LOVE.

Janaki I respect your opinion however I would(respectfully) like to disagree. The show has changed but I still think it has the the Indian values left. I personally loved the story when it was in Hoshiarpur. It reminded me of what my mum use to tell me about her village and how things use to be. Although the story in Delhi appeals to me very much too. I absolutely love it!
To me it has been a pleasure to watch the journey of the character Geet. From being surpressed and intimidated to being a woman who makes her own decision and takes matter into her own hands.
Hope my post made any sense. I think in a way but when I write it comes out differently. 😆
