Will reply later on in full...
Whoever brought Ramayan into the topic (14 years exile comment), please do not do so as that will create religious arguments in people. Whether people agree with its ideals or not, Ramayan is the epitome of sacrifice and true love...it has nothing to do with Maan and Geet, so please do not bring that into topic.
Thanks,
Janu

@Janu - Am digressing from u r topic, but must comment on ur own comment (above). From a non-religious perspective, I have to disagree wit you. Ram is not the epitome of perfect love. Its flawed weak love that bowed to the rules of societal false beliefs. Shame on RAM! As for Sita ten her love was the sacrificing types and good for her. But, she failed women by accepting societal atchayar.

^ Bashing religions is against rules. This thread is going off topic. I'm going to the mod to close it.

Excuse me who bashed ny religion? Ramayana is an EPIC... that is part of a relgion. That does not make it so people cannot have a rational discussion about its characters and characterizations...

I'm not gonna argue with you, this is totally off topic :/ Have a rational discussion where it's appropriate

I'm not sure if many people know this, but Ram only left Sita to be a good king and set an example for his people. He still loved Sita and believed her purity completely, but people in his kingdom were badmouthing him and Sita's character and they didn't believe he did correct by keeping Sita as his wife even after she spent so much time with Ravan. He couldn't bear the insults on his beloved wife and then there was an incident with a washerman that made Ram think that maybe he was setting a wrong example for his people. After all, for a king the entire kingdom is his family, not just his immediate family. He had to look out for the best interests of everyone.
And there's many more types of love in the Ramayan too, like parental love, friendly love, brotherly love, etc. by the way.
Anyways this has nothing to do with Geet so I'm going to stop here, just wanted to clarify that because I am religious as well.
Of course, you may have your own opinion, and I respect that. This is my opinion, I don't want to cause fights or anything so yeah.

Hey,

Thanks. I just thought it would make no sense to yell and since I haven't seen any other Hindi shows I couldn't really compare Geet to any other show. So I just thought I would state what is going on in the western world and how different it is than Geet. For example I lived with my current husband for 5 years before we got married. It was normal according to western values, though not according to the Indian values my parents hold.

@TM & Aishi.muffin - the 2 of u introduced "Ram" into this topic, so I was responding to ur comments as you made it part of the discussion. Not arguing wit you.
Returning to the original topic. I re-eiterate that Geet is Geet! An Indian girl dealing with the problems life has thrown at her as valiantly as she can.
I fail to grasp why "westernized" is a bad term and "indianized" is a good term. That is y i do not use such terms. Because you are value judging cultures. There are good things about western and eastern traditions. There are also loads of bad things about both.
For Instance:
Good:
1. Respect of others opinions (western)
2. Respect of elders (eastern)
3. Caring for family (eastern)
4. Communal caring for society as a whole (western)
Bad:
1. Honour killings (eastern)
2. Devaluing of family structures (western)
3. Widow burning (eastern)
4. Self focus (western)
