As for the relationship between the two characters then again this is not progressive... If we now accept silly Ekta serials where pple have multiple marriages and that is considered "indian" (based on popularity of Kyunki, etc.) then Geet is not that progressive. Also, there are some dynamite love stories in indian culture wit extra-marital component. Radha-Kishna being the classic. Their love is Eternal but, also not in keeping with the conventions of society. They were married to others not each other. Again i am discussing "character" not religion. Also, one of the things every culture should value is LOVE... and there is nothing "indian" or "western" about LOVE.

I aimed my response at the one poster who made the comment on Ram, not at everyone. It is my past experience that bringing religion or puranas into discussion can turn ugly. Believe me, I'm a former member of the Debate Mansion so I'm talking from experience. Some topics can get really nasty if religion is brought into debate, and I do not want that here.
As for Radha-Krishna's relationship, please do not get me talking on that. People who think Radha and Krishna were unwed, please cite your sources. Radha and Krishna are eternally wed to each other, because Radha is an incarnation of Maha Lakshmi and Shri Krishna the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Because of a boon Lord Vishnu gave to another, he and Radha could not marry in the present human avatar, but though Lord Krishna did marry, Radha never married anyone else. She was betrothed to this man called Abhimanyu, but she never married him because Lakshmi can never be apart from Vishnu.
As for Lord Krishna's eight principal queens, they all are the incarnations of the Ashta Lakshmis...each of them is a part of Lakshmi, whereas Radha is the complete Lakshmi, so Lord Vishnu did marry Radha in the ethereal sense. The shadow of Maha Lakshmi (Radha) remained unmarried because of the boon, while she yet again incarnated herself as Lord Krishna's eight queens (Rukmini, Satyabhama, Jambavati, Goda Devi, etc) to fulfill his purpose on Earth. People who speak with Agyana (ignorance) about Ram and Krishna are doing no one any good, either themselves or others, so it would be best for them not to say anything. It is so clear by your words that you have never actually read Ramayana, and that you are speaking from very basic knowledge possibly gained by the media.
If people want to bring religion into discussion, then be ready to back up your comments. I have Valmiki Ramayana and Shrimad Bhagavatham with me to support my arguments about Ram and Krishna, but those of you who do not have those with you, or who do not want to cite anything to support their arguments, please do NOT bring religion into the discussion.
Commenting about Shri Ram and Shri Krishna based on what you see in movies and serials is not practical. Many movies and serials portray their characters in a wrong way, and people who tend to believe media believe that the characters of Ram and Krishna were really like that. Please. I entreat you. If you are truly interested in learning about the character of Ram, or if you want proof that Ram-Sita's love is the purest of all, then read Valmiki Ramayana, Tulasi Ramayana, Adhyatma Ramayana, or whatever Ramayana version which is close to your family.
Shri Ram is not called MARYADA PURUSHOTHAM for no reason. It is really sad that many misunderstand the role of Ram and Sita in Uttar Kand.
You know what? If Geet becomes another Sita, then Geet Hui Sabse Parayi will be elevated to such heights that its popularity will be spread worldwide, because Goddess Sita is worshipped by not only Hindus, but many westerners as well. She is the epitome of womanhood, sacrifice, and love, and if people think 'becoming another Sita' will demean Gita, I really really feel sorry for you, because you are only debasing Geet, not wishing good for it. Sorry, this is just my opinion.

No offense meant to people, but if you are true fans of Gurmeet, please do not insult the Ramayana, as Gurmeet said in one of his past interviews (will post it here if you want) that his role as Shri Ram was his favorite considering everything he acted in, counting Mayavi, Ramayan, PPAW, and even Geet. He said in the interview that he's formed deep respect for Lord Ram after acting in the serial, because he's learned so much about the character's love and pain which he did not know, and even did not understand, before, and that he's changed as a person after Ramayan.
Please! Just leave the epic (and the serial Guru acted in) out of the discussion. This topic is about GEET (the show), NOT Ramayan.

One more thing, just because I use siggies and avis of television mythos does not mean I base my knowledge off of them. I've encountered this same kind of 'welcome' from many people, especially from the DM. I only use the avis and siggies because I love those mytho shows, just like you all love Geet. I love those mytho shows because I personally feel they portrayed the Gods in an accurate manner (simply my opinion), but I strictly DO NOT base my Ramayana/Mahabharata knowledge off of serials or movies. I actually do read, as surprising as it may sound to some people.😉
Back to the topic at hand....
1. One thing I want to make clear to people. I personally DETEST SaasBahu soaps. What made you all think I love all those trashy saasbahu soaps just because I want Geet (the show) to be a bit more cultured? Believe me, I am a huge disapprover of Kekta's wailing women/melodramatic shows. I don't even watch much TV shows, mainly mythological ones. I watch the old Ramayana and Shri Krishna by Dr. Ramanand Sagar, Mahabharata by BR Chopra, and the recent NDTV Ramayana with Guru and Debi by Anand Sagar, as well as Jai Shri Krishna with Dhriti/Meghan by Meenakshi Sagar. I only enjoy mythological shows, and rarely rarely follow everyday serials, espcially saas bahu ones. It really hurts that you all have come to such a sudden uncalled for conclusion just because I dared criticize Geet (the show) even a bit.
One more thing. I think it very very rude to put down other shows like DMG and MJHT in this forum, as they too are highly popular shows and many fans of DMG and MJHT are also fans of Geet, and you all who are putting down those shows are only hurting the Geet fans here who love them also. Please, leave out other shows from this discussion.
2. I NEVER once in my post implied that Geet (the character) is becoming westernized, so all of you who have been bashing me because of that are just.....
I'm sorry, but can't you fans take even a bit of critcicism? For every show, whether it be famous or not, there will be fans and people who do not like certain aspects of the show.
You know, I did like Geet (the show) in the beginning, as it portrayed many unique aspects like women burning, NRI marriages, etc, and I had hope in Geet that it would continue like that, but not EVERY part of a populated city is modernized.
The majority of my family in India live in cities, and they all live in areas which are very much traditional, and normal. If the CVs of Geet want to portray city life, they should portray both the western aspect of it as well as the old fashioned, or else it is not ACCURATE.
Also, being traditional does NOT mean one supports bride burnings, dowry death, or bad NRI marriages. That is such a heinous conclusion to come to about someone. Being traditional means one supports dignity, sincerity, and the precious Indian ideals which make us different from other nations and cultures. I do not mean to put down the western culture, as there are many aspects of it I also like, but if I wanted to watch a western show, I would just turn on any English soap.
You guys don't know, but the reason many people pay for Indian channels from foreign nations is so that they can feel a part of India by living so far from it. They want to feel close to their culture by watching the shows, be reminded of what they left behind....you people who live in India cannot understand this, as you all want westernization in shows because you find it fascinating in intriguing. But we people living in western countries can watch western shows whenever we want. When we turn on an Indian channel, we wish to see something that promotes the Indian culture, not actresses wearing skimpy little outfits in clubs shaking their butts and Lord alone knows what around like a pair of crazy baboons.
You know, I had no problem with Geet until the club episode where they showed so many people barely wearing anything.👎🏼 Geet was dressed fine, but what was up with Pari, or the other girls? And how about Maan and Geet's dance? Unlike the previous one at the office party, this one was waaaay to intimate for little children to watch (and kids do watch Star One shows, you know). And you all think this is accepted behavior?😕 You think this is what true love means? Dancing against someone's body and kissing and hugging them like you are tied to them in any way whatsoever? Do you guys even know the meaning of true love? No, leave that aside. Do you know what is PURE love?
And then some people think it right to bring in Ram and Sita's love, and putting down Shri Ram's love by claiming Maan's love is more real. What's up with that?
I am really put off by your replies. I expected a mature take on my post, and though some of you have (thank you to those for that), the majority of you started bashing me like I was saying something against your Gods or something. If you cannot take a bit of criticism towards something you like, you are not a fan.
Please. Be a fan if you want, but do NOT turn into fanatics. That's just tooooo much.
This is my last reply in this thread...unless I receive more mature replies.
Thanks,
Janu

This post made me think which is a lot more than I can say about the majority of posts here!! 😕 😆 I don't think its becoming 'too' westernized but it has changed (with the times/for the fans/for TRP's and the like). I think many might disagree with your POV and that is probably why the post is now 12 pages long. 😆 Personally, I am a fan of the HP track more than the Delhi track for sure but more because of the storyline.

I think the reason for that is - it was well directed, good acting n yes, good storyline. I wouldn't say it was unique , but...
I think, the last Geet scene was beautifully done by Drashti. 👏😃👏
It's normal to want more of that. 😉 It was very touching to see her - Geet- get seperated from her family.

Thanks for the scene!! I always forget how different the show was back then and how much I enjoyed the drama. I miss it but it seems some of that serious aspect is back this week which I love.

Your welcome.
I noticed and I believe I mentioned it in one of the topics. Probably this one. 😆
Anyways -
The drama is back - we are back from where we left off. But seriously, I hate when it gets too drama-ish. I'm more of a romantic-comedy kinda person.
I liked how it was in H. and I love how it is in D. right now.
I guess that makes the show perfect. 😆 I hope it doesn't get too drama-ish and we still get to enjoy some funny, adorable moments. 😉
